In this episode of Iron City Garage Clay gets to work on the 1956 GMC 550 fire truck. This truck was actually bought by mistake. Pete had purchased it for his buddy who then decided he didn’t want it after it was purchased…… ya right who does that even. ANYWAYSsssss Pete was luckily able to sell it to someone who recognized its beauty and the rest is history. We are gonna try and see what we can do for it before she’s heads out. So make sure you stay tune to see for yourself….. Will it run???

Really cool looking truck, like to see what happens to it.
Damn a 12 valve and a semi back half and make a hell of a tow rig!!!!!
That would make an awesome ramptruck old school brother
Plug port may be an air brake or electrical charge port. Little compressor inside would keep brakes charged for a fast response.
I love the unique vehicles.
Great work!!
Damn shame they lopped the frame off. Where the back half? That would made a nice rig if it wasnt a frame cutoff lol
I guess I should've watched a little while longer gonna be a sweet rollback also
Good.job 😄😄👍👍👏👏cool

Yes I did
YOU MADE A SHORTY!
Yup!
Not being familiar with vintage gmc trucks,I was surprised,by this one having a Pontiac 347 in it.
Well sir that is not a Pontiac V8 engine. By the shaft mounted rocker arms that shows that it is not a Pontiac engine. The Pontiac V8 introduced in 1955 with a displacement of 286 cubic inches followed by the 316 c.i. in 1956 and the 347 c.i. in 1957 used the ball and cup rocker arm setup. In fact all of the Pontiac engines were basically the same engine configuration right on up through the large displacement engines. By the way the GM engineer that developed the ball and cup rocker arm system also used on the Chevrolet V8 came over to GM from Ford. I cannot identify the engine in the truck but it may be an Oldsmobile engine or even a Cadillac engine. Of course this engine had the governed carburetor on it as it was also used to power the accessories used in fire fighting activities.
😃👍👍👍👍👌
Young mechanic still smoking in the workshop and no safety gear
Yep, I beg him to wear safety gear, the smoking doesn’t bother me too much that’s a lot of mechanics. I’ve been pushing and pushing on the safety gear but when the boss is away the kids play.
Having trouble with the merchandise site page. Any new merchandise available yet?
Cutting the frame behind the cab on such a clean old classic truck makes no sense at all
Is his name Fire Marshal Bob?
Let air outta tires
