when i butt splice small wires i typically strip the wire back further and double it up in the connector, helps it stay in there tight
Not a bad idea! I tug pretty hard when dealing with smaller cables just so I know it won’t come undone later on!

Why do traffic light controllers use that connector for power? Why not something more standardized?
In the UK we do Factory Acceptance Tests and Site Acceptance Tests to verify the controller has been configured correctly. Is this done in your neck of the woods?
It’s suppose to be done but QA has been a little sloppy since Covid! Everything is suppose to be tested and verified before shipping from suppliers.

Normal 40 hours. one guy is on call for a week and rotates throughout the crew each week.
