I like to pride myself on trying new foods from various cultures so I bought the Dragonfly brand "special" mudfish cream ..,... and made a similar (though uncooked) recipe for my NYE steak recipe and no ... just no. I LOVE jeow bong padaek .. have had it in sai kok ... but this? no ... I think I reached the limit of my Western palate limitations ... at least I tried ...the biggest part is the smell and also I don't even use salt in my Western cooking (or just a very litle) ... I actually use fish sauce in my lasagna tomato sauce ... but prohok or that version of padaek ... sorry I can't do it... sad that I wasted 35.00 on an experiment but I learned something ... btw I also foolishly bought a pantai bottle of pickled gouramy fish (cream style) ... should I just toss it? or might it be somewhat milder than the mudfish?
