I've been wondering for a while why people think they can only love Homura if she hasn't done anything wrong. Can't you love someone in spite, or even because, of their flaws, mistakes, and wrong actions? Homura is a great, compelling, wonderfully written character with a tragic backstory; does she really need to have done nothing wrong to be also worthy of our love?

and that gets into a underlying problem with homura’s character beyond her overwhelming abilities what is there actually homura’s character what gives Homura to be in rebellion or even to be a part of the magical girls to begin with? What makes Homura the character she actually is and what is the source of her transformation it seems like puella Madoka doesn’t really have the best villains none of them have the complexity like magneto or darts Vader have however each of them still possess them distinct strength from one another Kyoko was a magical girl with a strong sense of pride and nobility witches are genocide all sociopathic from different realms who dominated the universe and couldn’t stand up against the magical girls the familiar were cold killing machines who were born into the strongest realm by the witches (if not) their realm timeline from apart the witches to destroy for their own pleasure now kyubey was similar this way however he also posses the distinction traits of contracts and grants wishes for the remain user but over time his character became more and more of his own and he actually evolves he may have not have been the best of these villains maybe neither the bosses however his childlike mentality abilities in the humorous ways he would use allowed him to stand out amongst the crowd
Now compare all these villains to Homura and there’s a pretty clear difference what is really distinct or different about Homura? Her design is a cross between a black hair girl and koan black moon from sailor moon she’s a time traveler she’s really strong she has some sort of motive to go to time and time to safe and fail against saving Madoka she wants Madoka’a soul gem for some reason rewind the universe and she’s the main antagonist of rebellion that’s literally it that is all the character development she’s been given and This doesn’t make for an interesting or compelling antagonist instead what we get is a character with little to no personality whose past we may understand dominating a bunch of characters we do card about using seemingly angelus powers that has yet to be explained and despite her motive and what she did was wrong or right in episode which goes out of their way to push Homura as a badass the end result is ultimately ‘’boring’’ because if you strip away that animation and score and you just look at Homura from a character standpoint it becomes apparent that Homura herself is a boring character she’s just a big strong Heel with ultimate plot power who stands in the way of Homura and friends survival she’s just an obstacle someone to change time and then to keep moving on to the next part we’re Madoka goes to the next Law of cycle ego is even stronger the Homura ans the cycle continues like a dragon ball z movie and so far Homura hasn’t shown much of differentiate her from a movie villain in the first place

Personally, I prefer the idea that Homura rewrote the entire universe. Or at the very least her labyrinth BECAME the universe.

    • @CL361
      @CL361 4 роки тому +20

Practically, that's what happened. Kyuubey confirmed that the universe was rewritten ("The world is being rewritten. Does this mean that a new principle has been born into this universe?"), and Homura confirmed that she did exactly the same thing that Madoka did ("That's reminds me. You don't remenber the last time anymore, Do you? For me, this is the second time I've seen this place. ”)

      @ingonyama70 3 роки тому +12

The idea that this is an expanded labyrinth makes more sense, though, thematically as well as within the laws of the universe.
It's Homura's original wish taken to its logical extreme - "I want to be the one to protect Madoka" - so she creates a barrier around the entire universe to protect her from harm. But she's not trying to break the Law of Cycles, or end the hope of every Magical Girl who came before or might come after her. All Homura cares about - all she's been proven to care about since the very beginning - is Madoka, and so it's Madoka she breaks the rules to take, and Madoka she revolves everything around.
I see this as a temporary patch job, not something that's in any way sustainable, even with Homura's power, will, and obsession. We've seen that on the very first day, Madoka almost broke through just because something felt off to her, and Homura had to stop her physically.
I predict that ultimately, Homura will see the futility of her actions. As soon as Madoka becomes unhappy with the way things are in her world, Homura's dream of keeping her safe in a giant bubble will burst, and the universe will go one of three possible ways:
      1) they'll go back to how they were when Madoka made her wish, with Madokami in charge of all Magical Girls' destinies again and Homura either relinquishing herself to become part of the Law of Cycles willingly or removing herself from the equation altogether somehow,
      2) Homura and Madoka will somehow cancel each other out and things will go back to the Incubators' original design - the "witch system" as it's called (this would be the worst ending and I do not want it),
      3) The Law of Cycles will be fundamentally altered in some way, and we'll see the universe of Rebellion somehow tie in to the universe of Magia Record, with the laws and principles of that universe becoming canon. (I kinda don't want this ending either, but it's the most likely due to corporate synergy)

      I'm confused between
1)the girls still possess a ring at the end of the movie so that means they are still magical girls (with powers and the responsibility to hunt down wraiths)? Didn’t Homura rewrite the universe where there is no need for magical girls so as to protect Madoka from becoming one?
2)Homura after having altered the universe grabs Kyubey and says she still needs his help to eradicate the curses that have been left behind? What curses, does she mean remaining wraiths?

I think you tried to bring this point up, but it wasn't explained very well, so I wanna talk about the flower field scene. The one where Homura is crying to Madoka about her experiences before her labryinth (under the context of a dream). One of Madoka's biggest character traits is a lack of love and respect for herself, and when Homura asks her if she could have left her friends behind to go somewhere faraway, Madoka belittles herself and says she couldn't, and that she'd never even want to. From then on, Homura is under the belief that Madoka didn't want to make her sacrifice. She isn't trying to crap on Madoka's wish, she believes she's saving Madoka from it. In reality, Madoka was most likely happy with that wish, but her own lack of self love prevents her from believing she has it in herself to make it. Just a lil neat part of the movie that I think goes underminded a lot.

      @jalarasstudios414 2 роки тому +16

Yeah, I have noticed people bringing that up to try and justify what Homura did. The point falls flat for several reasons for me, but perhaps most of all because Madoka in that scene has little to no idea of the stakes, and does not remember why at all she 'went away' to begin with.
In essence, Homura was self-biasing the answer if we're taking it as an explanation for why she rebelled.

    • @lostinacatsmouth8389
      @lostinacatsmouth8389 2 роки тому +13

@@jalarasstudios414 I agree with you! This doesn't justify Homura's actions, it just explains why she did them. Despite that though, I love it to death. It helps that I'm a huuuuuge villain simp, but I think Homura's character is done very well, and in a way that is very Madoka Magica. She doesn't only just rebel because of this scene, although this scene is probably a huge reason why. Like how Sayaka became a magical girl because she secretly wanted Kyousuke to love her because of her wish, Homura probably rebelled because she wanted Madoka back, too. There were a few scenes where she talked about how lonely she was in a world with Madoka, too. I feel like character flaws and youthful naivety are a huge part of Madoka Magica, and I think Homura's version of it was done really well. It was always going to be devisive when they turned a main character into a villain, so I can understand whatever reasons someone might not like it. She definitely didn't do the right thing, and acted in selfish and unthoughout ways. I don't think you can really justify what she did, but I think they did a fairly good job explaining WHY she did it.

Homura's wish did nothing to contradict Madoka's wish. She actually nullified the need for Madoka to do anything by expanding her laberinth to encompass the universe (Supposedly). Not only this, Homura has potentially saved the universe.
Just like Kyubei established in the series, they harness the negative emotions of adolescent girls, converting it into energy to keep the universe from collapsing on itself. Negative emotions is power. Kyubei potentially uses this energy to power their own technology (If it can sustain the universe, it can sustain their weird alien technology) The energy must be collected in the soul gems, made from trapping the girls souls and preventing their negative emotions from going anywhere (Thus ensuring all magical girls turn into witches) There is only one way to remove the negative emotions from your soul gems, and that's to put it in other soul gems. The gems are then converted into power.
When Homura expanded her laberynth to encompass the universe, it traps everyone inside. Everyone is, in theory, inside the world of Homura's soul gem. If everyone has negative emotions and does not have a soul gem to keep those negative emotions inside, they're releasing it out into the open confines of Homura's soul gem. Their emotions are filling her soul gem, giving her raw power. Because her laberynth expanded throughout the universe, Homura can convert the negative energy directly into power and pump it into the universe, making the universe and her laberynth self sustaining. Kyubei now has nothing to do as their mission is essentially done, the universe will never implode. There's also no longer a need for magical girls as their purpose for existing has been taken by Homura. Sure, Homura's wish nullified Madoka's magical girl ability, but it did not nullify her wish. Madoka just prevented the existance of witches, Homura prevented the need for magical girls in the first place.
By being the most selfish thing in the universe, Homura saved everyone. The irony in that is almost poetic if it wasn't so absurd.

Homura did wrong, but it is very arguably for the right reasons and the lesser of two evils. If The incubators can create a space where Madoka's laws don't apply, then Madoka's wish has in fact failed and her laws are proven to be unnatural. What they did proved that something more had to be done to prevent them from just repeating the experiment and turning more magical girls into witches.
If rewriting the laws of the universe is wrong, then Madoka's wish at the end of the series was also wrong. In fact, Madoka's saying that it is wrong to mess with laws at the end of Rebellion makes her a hypocrite after she explicitly spoke of rewriting the laws of the universe when she made her wish. Where Homura went wrong is in taking away Madoka's free will, but in can be argued that Madoka did something similar to Homura in making her a magical girl even when the thing she wished for in the original timeline never existed. Homura was basically condemned at the end of episode 12 to continue fighting a war she didn't believe in for the rest of her life - without even getting to have a wish like all the other magical girls.

    • @CL361
      @CL361 4 роки тому +22

"Where Homura went wrong is in taking away Madoka's free will, ..."
Madoka and the rest of the girls also taking away Homura's free will when they thwarted her suicide attempt.
Homura wanted to die to protect Madoka, that is the end that she herself had chosen for herself, that's what she wanted, but (and even when Homura herself begged beetwen tears to they let her die) they ignored her wishes and detained her by strength. But, no one considers that they did the wrong thing, why?, simple, because Homura was hurting herself. Therefore, one can argue that Homura did nothing wrong either despite she opposed to Madoka's free will because Madoka was also hurting herself. Let's remenber that Madoka erased her existence as a human being (I think this might qualifies like suicide), that she condemned herself to a life of total isolation, and that she was miserable as a goddess according to the concept movie ("The Goddess has none hapiness").
When you think about it carefully, it's quite hironic, because when Madoka and the rest of the girls prevented Homura from committing suicide, they denied to her the same thing that Homura denied later to Madoka when she divided her into two, the freedom to sacrifice yourself for the sake of someone else.

Everything about Homura comes down to this, she's a fourteen year old who's been through A LOT and her obsession is totally justified and we all know these girls are beyond therapy, they are spiritually and internally gone.

Best thing to remember with this series is that it's always the Incubators doing something in the background. Post credits scene in Rebellion seems to suggest this since we see two different Kyubey's; one that is tattered and broken, and another lurking in the shadows that appears to be completely fine. They couldn't capture and study Madoka, but they don't need to anymore. They see Homura was able to rewrite the universe, and now they want to know how she did it so they can reset the universe to the way it was before Madoka made her wish.

In fact, it makes sense as that one Kyubey has the emotional of all magical girls, and there for all witches. That one Kyubey is probably what will become Walpurgisnacht. They chose humans because of their capability to actually have emotions and the amount of potential energy that could be created by a single human. With what Homura did in 'Rebellion', she gave a single Incubator a vast amount of emotions, something that was otherwise impossible for the Incubators to do themselves.
Remember how Kyubey says in one of the timelines that the energy created from Madoka destroying Walpurgisnacht then becoming a witch herself was so vast that it more or less made humanity irrelevant to the Incubators? That's what makes me think that the one Kyubey Homura burdened with the emotions of all magical girls is so important to what happens next in the series. That one Incubator possesses all the emotional energy Walpurgisnacht had and more. The Incubators will see this and realize that if they can simply harvest the energy from that single Kyubey, they can get all the energy they will ever need without having to deal with humans and their emotions.
Maybe that one Kyubey isn't Walpurgisnacht, that's just wild speculation on my part, but that single Incubator has far more energy and power within it than Walpurgisnacht ever did.

I agree here a lot more than I disagree. I do agree with the idea that Homura did not rewrite the universe, but merely imposed her labyrinth on it, and I think the evidence for that is very clear from the dialogue at the end of Rebellion. I also agree with the idea that Homura thinks what she's doing is right, and that it's very much in character with her past. It took me my third viewing of Rebellion to really grasp what was going on, and when I finally did, I saw Rebellion as being every bit as good as the series.
I think the only thing I really disagree with is the point about Madoka in the field of flowers. I would argue that her true wishes aren't what she says when she doesn't remember, because our experiences are very much a part of who we are. Sure, maybe Madoka would never want to make that decision under some circumstances, but there clearly were circumstances in which she would make that decision, and I don't think you can separate her from those experiences to justify Homura's actions.
Fundamentally, I don't think Homura's new world is sustainable, and that's more or less exactly what she says at the end of Rebeliion. You could say it's a false happy ending. You also have to understand Madoka's reasons for making her wish in the first place. Yes, Magical Girls have to still fight, but that's for the sake of their wishes. I can't get the exact quote right now, but Madoka says something along the lines of "I don't want to invalidate the wishes that those girls fought for". That's why the system had to continue to exist in some way. She couldn't erase the wishes, or the suffering they had to endure, but she could save them from their own despair. And in the end, her decision to become a concept allows her to do that not just for all future Magical Girls, but for all magical girls, past present and future. That was the wish she made, and that's why Homura's attempt to undo that, and establish a new order, isn't justified in my mind.

Our experiences do change who we are. That's why Homura reminded her that she was stronger than she gives herself credit for. And given Madoka's circumstances, her wish was a definite improvement, but it also comes into conflict with Homura's wish of protecting Madoka. I think it's inevitable they would clash.

@@ModeratelyOtaku Oh, absolutely. That's another of the great things about the series/movie and why I agree Homura's actions were completely in line with her character.
It also has part to do with why I think Homura was able to become a Demon instead of a Witch. I think she was put into a sort of Catch 22 situation. She knew Madoka's fate, and the fate of all Magical girls. She knows that falling into despair is the only we she could see Madoka again, so how could she ever truly despair? As a result, Despair was no longer the strongest emotion capable of corrupting her soul gem. One of the things Sayaka suggests is that the emotion was Obsession (Homura calls it love, but then again, she would). So perhaps a 'Demon' is simply the result of a Soul Gem being corrupted by a different emotion, something that was never before seen because Despair is such a natural end for a Magical Girl.
I don't think there's any real evidence backing up that theory, but I like it.

Moderately Otaku It is love though, that's why there are runes that refer to Nietzsches concept of eternal recurrence in the movie. The reason Homura's soul gem was 'tainted' with love is because she realized that neither her failures and suffering are reasons to despair anymore, since all the things she went through were necesary to reunite with Madoka once again in order to protect her. So she loves her despair since it's proof of her love to Madoka, who always saw Homura as someone worthy of being loved even in her worst moments. Basically her despair works now as an expression of her love for Madoka instead of an expression of her sadness and lamentation for failing to protect her. This is an example of Nietzche's 'Amor fati' which is intimately related to the concept of eternal recurrence that appears in the runes of the movie. Here is my main source for this if someone is interested but it definitely is love imagakblog.wordpress.com/2018/07/18/suspended-in-dreams-on-the-mitakihara-loopline-a-nietzschean-reading-of-madoka-magica-rebellion-story/
Also about the other discussion, I personally think Homura's actions were justified. While Madoka's sacrifice improved the cruel magical girl system, it still was a cruel one in which girls fight and suffer unjustly, living miserable and short lifes for wishes that in many cases where not made with full information about the situation since Kyubey still tricks them for his own benefit. It's a system in which an innocent girl like Madoka had to gave up her life in order to make it a bit better. Madoka accepted this reality and chose to sacrifice herself for it, but Homura hated that world for this reason (she even says that this world doesn't deserve to be saved), that's why after evaluating all of her inner self inside her soul gem and discovering Kyubey's plan she chose to rebel against it, imposing her new (and better in my opinion) reality in the form of her labyrinth, where Madoka (and by proxy every other girl) lives a normal life without having to suffer under the old system. And she doesn't destroy the Law of Cycles while at it, it already made it's job of killing all the witches so it remains inactive as the other half of Madoka.
Also props for the video man, there are some little parts I disagree with but I liked it overall.

I get a lot of your points, especially Madoka's wish (she could've just wished for entropy to no longer exist, where that leaves mankind is up in the air if we trust Kyubey's word). I also agree it isn't out of character for Homura. I do think Madoka's normal existence had to be the cost because her wish demanded for intentions to remain pure and who was going to do that job? Kyubey?
However, that's neither here nor there. I believe, on some level, most of the girls are still magical girls, especially since Sayaka is upset about that when, if there were no magical girls, she shouldn't be. A line that I remember being in the dub though I'm not sure if it's in the sub was "You took a piece of the cycles, the only salvation for us magical girls."
Another thing I had a problem with was the parent stifling their child's dreams analogy, I won't get into the morality of it since different areas have extremely different approaches to that action, but I will say it's a false equivalence. What Homura did wasn't just stifling Madoka's dreams, it's stealing her away and rewriting her memory, she does the same for all of the magical girls. What she has done is still problematic. Sure, Madoka's wish wasn't a solution, but it limited the damage, Homura literally made things worse off for almost everyone.
I will say, while I don't like what Homura has done and I don't think I would like her if she were a real person, I like the characterization. It's not out of character, it's horribly selfish and cruel to some extent and obsessive (pushing aside all of the other girl's feelings for her ends while Madoka literally did the exact opposite). Homura didn't do something good, but she's a great character.

The scene where madoka comforts her is kinda proof of that. they were in Homura's labyrinth, Madoka said what Homura wanted to hear. Homura was clearly scared of losing Madoka, she was partially driven by that fear. in my opinion it was a mix of her fighting for madoka and fighting for her own selfish desires. This is coming from someone who loves and heavily relates to Homura. She is very flawed and she is selfish. that doesn't make her a bad person, everyone is selfish to an extent. Idk thats just how I saw her character.

Homura becoming the supreme witch was the only way to save Madoka from Kyubey and the incubators, so yes Homura is the ultimate hero in this tale (and also my favorite character from all media).

I mean, I feel like it was necessary for Madoka's wish to require her to do it herself. At least for Homura's sake anyways.
Homura went through so many time loops just for Madoka to the point that Madoka arguably became her reason for living. They even show this in the show in Homura's house when she breaks down and Kyubey figures Homura out.
Even up to the last episode, Madoka had no real true emotional connection to Homura. She "knew" Homura, but was primarily concerned for her out of how kind she was.
Madoka's wish was a culmination of everything that had happened to all of her friends up to that point and she just so happened to have the opportunity to change that.
After making the wish, she came to see everything Homura had done for her over so many timelines and could actually accept and understand Homura. If she had made that wish without doing it herself, (for one, Madoka might've just disappeared to the Law of Cycles right then and there) Homura would still just be that girl who just transferred in. Homura would have nobody who could understand what she had been through and her feelings would never be able to truly connect with Madoka. That alienation and disconnect from everyone else would probably just have led to an enormous amount of emotional turmoil for Homura afterwards.

I just realized that Homura's world is an opportunity. I hope in Homura's world, the girls get a chance to actually solve their own problems. Talk about them. Put them behind. Not...sacrifice their lives because they can't handle it anymore but they don't want to hurt people.
P.S: I'm starting to understand the mindset behind the theory saying Madoka was actually planning to take her own life for a time now, and becoming a Goddess simply presented itself as an opportunity to do it and still be useful.

Technically since magical girls exist to create power that keeps the universe going, Madoka rescuing them from the suffering that create she energy that keeps the universe going means their suffering is in vein. Don't get me wrong, she became God with good intentions and it was as selfless of a wish as it gets, but that selflessness did have its consequences. Even if what the incubators did seemed cruel, understanding why still matters even if it doesn't necessarily justify it.
Not only that, but Homura also didn't reveal Madoka's existence on purpose and this cannot be counted as her having done something wrong. The incubators in previous timelines grew suspicious of her for how she is a magical girl but no record of what her wish was, just that the means of time travel made her powers seem to come out of nowhere, which should be impossible, and therefore they were prompted to investigate. This means Homura's existence alone is enough, no matter how tight Homura's lips ever were.

and that gets into a underlying problem with homura’s character beyond her overwhelming abilities what is there actually homura’s character what gives Homura to be in rebellion or even to be a part of the magical girls to begin with?

The reason Homura turned into a demon in Rebellion is she redirected that fate she'd cause by accepting Madoka's salvation onto herself. and if that's how she had to fulfill saving Madoka from herself then as Homura put it, "she'd be able to shoulder any sin." And nothing about Rebellion or the series post-Rebellion proved that Kyuubey's plan to trick Madoka into turning into a demon/witch after she rescues Homura wouldn't have been able to happen.

Madoka was inside Homura's gem because the gems are made to host the hope of their lost partners, like we see in Gaiden
So really, in no other soul gem the Incubators could have observed Meduka better. They isolated Homura from the universe to transform her into a witch, which would have happened with anyone else. But unlike everyone else, Homura was hosting Madoka inside her gem, so the Incubators started investigating Madoka. They tried to make the Madoka inside Homura use the law of cycle to control her, an oddity that could only happen inside Homura's gem, because no other gem could host Madoka's hope, since she became an external entity from the new universe, and Homura was hosting a Madoka from the old universes
Homura's strong will to not become a witch outside her gem was pure luck, she is the only one who could have done something like that. The odds were stacked against her. No other magical girl had ever done that before. Telling Kyubey was a mistake, and she would have failed miserably if her will was slightly weaker
Aside from that, Madoka sent a bunch of magical girls to save Homura, intervening even despite being outside the isolated space that Kyubey created. That's why we see OG Sayaka and Bebe, but Kyouko and Mami are the new ones. This begs the question, was the Madoka inside Homura the Godess accompaning Sayaka, or was she the hope Homura was hosting from the previous universe due to her time powers? I believe it was the old one, the Godess

While I understand both arguments something I think people forget one major factor. “How dose Madoka feel about this?”
The tv show ended with Madoka *finally* having agency and made her choice. Madoka was finally no longer on the outside powerless to do anything as everyone died horribly around her. Homura had no right undoing that and taking that power away from her (by force remember) It was out of selfishness that she did. She didn’t care if Madoka wanted it or not.
I still like Homura as a character. She’s messy and I love how much the twist of rebellion still matches with the show. You thinking she’s a good person who truly cares about Madoka that’s a valid read of the show. You can also watch the show with the idea that she’s a obsessive Yandari who truly “cares” for Madoka and it’s also a valid read of the show. It’s crazy good how well this series covers it’s own ass by never lying to the viewers. The only characterization that needs to stay consistent between the show and movie is that Homura is that she cares for Madoka.
I personally like rebellion but I think the show is a better overall story. It’s themes more striking and meaningful. Rebellion is a beautiful film but it just can’t match all the feeling the show ever gave me.

Homura did something wrong but so did Madoka. While the wish of Madoka could be considered and is ultimate selfless love it is at the expense of her own person. I mean she basically felt so worthless about herself that she erased her existence and every memory of it for whar she thinks is the greater good of the universe. Yeah every time you said her wish was the perfect answer you validated child suicide without realizing. If I have to live haunted by that so do you... Yes I'm an asshole. The flaw in it is in the fact that she had to erase her existence because any memoryof her would cause suffering to her loved ones. A system even if absolutely selfless based on the suffering of someone is wrong and will fail because the moment someone knows how that system works that someone is going to rebel against it. However Homura is also wrong in the fact that she placed Madoka's well-being above everything else including herself. She created a selfish system centered around one person and she believes is the happiness of said person. But it's trapping everybody else and condemning them to a hollow false happiness that ultimately lead to suffering including her the very thing she criticised Madoka for. My point is the series is ultimately trying to tell us that both their answers are wrong and that the only solution is compromise between ultimate selflessness and ultimate selfishness, also you should never take the easy way out and walk the harder but more rewarding path and the idea of a wish is cowardice and prevent true human growth or someting... But whatever I like my take better thar one has yuri sheeping teenagers in it which makes it better accordingto the male weebs for some reasons...

She was doing what she thought was right and unlike other magical girl animes, just because she believed in it with all her heart, didnt mean it worked out how she wanted or came to pass without hurting others. It's all summed up pretty clearly in Madoka's talk with her mom about how Sayaka was acting. Everyone does what they think is right and sometimes it blinds them to what's really going on.
Her flaws are what make her interesting, and sadly, part of what keeps her and madoka from ever being truly happy with one another. They both have goals with good motivations, but they're in complete opposition with what the other wants.

It’s mix a both first this is totally in Homura’s character Homura did not like the wish at all because all she wants is madoka to be happy actually not for her to be happy more like Homura wants madoka to be with her. There is also some problems with Homura’s wish first now the incubators have emotions so they are going to try their hardest to make everyone’s life a living hell second that’s not the actual madoka it’s a shell it’s more of what Homura wants to be madoka is the law of cycles the real madoka is the goddess one she kicked out and third of all the wraiths are still a fucking problem so there is flaws and Homura kinda realized that by the end and the whole entire incubator thing sayaka nagisa and the other witches seem completely capable with dealing with Kyubey they literally came there for that reason and succeeded literally Homura would’ve just joined them because knowing how much madoka loves Homura Homura would’ve probably became a secretary to cause I mean if nagisa could become one she would definitely do it to so I do believe selfishness of just wanted madoka to be a normal girl and wanted to see madoka as a normal girl and her wanting to be in control of that played a role in her decision cause she could’ve easily went to magical girl heaven and been a Secretary with madoka and the other cause I bet Kyoko and mami would’ve joined them later too the reason why madoka kept magical girls existing because the whole entire line Kyubey said with us or magical girls y’all would still be caveman that’s the same reason why I think Homura didn’t erase the incubators all together but her giving incubators emotions absolutely fucked her but this is why I love the show none of the characters are technically good people all of them have fucked and even if there wish seems selfless there is some twisted selfishness behind and I think that’s the point there isn’t no ultimate good or ultimate evil that can solve the problem ultimate selfishness (Homura) will not make you happy and ultimate selflessness (madoka) won’t make everyone happy if they want to solve the problem and give hyperextended love to each other instead of trying to do it secretly or using a wish you have to tell them straight up and compromise

Finally, I've always been arguing that Rebellion was a necessary and the anime ending was a bad end. I kept telling them Madoka is just killing Magical girl and absorbing the energy from them. Thus, the mass black energy revolving around the space. At some point that energy will pop and she'll kill the universe itself.

Homura did wrong in the very first season. We see in the last few episodes how her wish changes Madoka'd personality until she was not the girl who Homura first knew and who was her friend. Like classic stalker/psychopaths, Homura has confused the Madoka that we see in the first episode with Madoka in her mind. She works to cage Madoka and stop her making her own choices all while saying she is doing it to protect her. Consider her like an adult male podophile who does not want his underage girlfriend to grow up.

Where do I even begin! With this fucking scene, how can I possibly even start to form the words that would properly describe how baldy it gives the middle finger to everyone who even remotely cares about the original series!
You’re telling me that with no thought, with no reluctance, and with no plan, homura was going to kill her freaking friend in her gem, no, no! A million times no!
Do you have any idea how much this is an insult to her character?? I do because I’ve thought of just about every single way that this has gone wrong.
First, this was the thing that made mami become a wings remember, the thing that made her completely! Turned to the dark side of the club, so yeah mami becoming satomi’s apprentice her attacking Sayaka in cold blood, and her snapped to try to kill iroha and those others
All of that is potentially if not entirely Her fault!
Second, isn’t this the same homura that still saw goodness in her friend? AKA Kyoko fucking Sakura!? Remember all those talks about her still seeing her as a ‘’real’’ magical within her and helping her understand her struggle between the light and dark side of the magical’s? How she didn’t-wanna give up on her because she’s an anti hero who killed a lot of witches and she had understood of her become a true magical girl and wanted to help her? added some interesting lessons into wanting to maybe track down Sayaka and madoka for the sake of their safety?
Here, she’s literally! Prepared to kill her friend! Her fucking ‘’Best’’ Friend!
Third, she was going to kill her friend AKA the goddess of Sayaka, how do you think she! Would feel if she knew that homura was going to kill her friend without a second thought! I’m pretty sure that she would Rightfully beat the shit out of her for trying to kill her friend and Turing her into a monster and I’m pretty sure that mami would have definitely beaten the shit out of her for it
Fourth, why didn’t homura just talked! To madoka is she really was worried about her becoming a goddess witch why didn’t she try to offer her any help? Like she did for Kyoko, this could have reality been resolved if homura just took the time to talk to her about what she could say to help her, instead of you know EXACTLY what she ends up doing! And even if it didn’t work, at least! Madoka would’ve have turned because of honura’s absent minded stupidity, her main reason for becoming a witch still comes from an easily avoidable misunderstanding, a misunderstanding that occurred because homura just assumed! That there was no hope for her and once more this actually makes Sayaka look like she’s in the right,
Remember, we were seeing this flashback from her perspective too, and the only part she ever actually saw was the part where she wakes up to see homura standing in front of her while talking about the last witch from Sayaka’s perspective homura was going to murder her and she was just defending herself,
And fifth, and maybe the worst of all, You’re making homura Akemi look like a psychopath! I know that she had a vision of incubator’s taking over the realms and madoka possibly becoming a witch, but really! Think about everything I just pointed out she could’ve easily taken the moment to talk to madoka about her dark side and help her, from what we saw there was no indication of her pondering such a thing, she immediately! Jumped to the conclusion that she needed to kill her, she was going to kill her best friend betrayed the trust of herself and as well all her best friend And she was going to do all of this while madoka was in her fucking gem!
This isn’t the decision of a nobleman making a tragic sacrifice to save the future, this is the decision that a freaking psychopath! Would make, if your first solution to a problem is to kill someone in their good state and you actually make the instinct to go through with it, you’re a goddam psychopath! And I’m pretty sure! And I’m just thinking out loud here that homura’s character was Not! Meant to be a psychopath!
Am I in some kind of parallel dimension or something!? Are we all in some kind of parallel dimension where the original madoka trilogy didn’t exist! And homura was just a character that Gen Urobuchi and Ume Aoki came up with? Because this is NOT! In anyway the SAME! homura akemi! From episodes 7 through 8!
I’m convinced, this homura akemi is some! Kind of clone, she killed the original took her identity and try to start a galactic takeover by taking a new Generation of magical, and one of them just happened to be siding with a force that opposed her plan, because that would explain why this evil! Clone of Homura was going to kill madoka instead of talking to her,
I don’t care what anyone says, this is my head canon for this movie.

You do realise that Homura never tried to kill Madoka right she just trapped her in her universe size labyrinth along with everybody else. Ane yes it's the same character not a clone. Homura has always prioritized and placed Madoka above everything else. Her wish was always for HER to save Madoka. It already shows that by nature her wish was selfish. She wanted to BE the one to protect Madoka. That obsession for Madoka becomes more clear when you realize her lack of care for the other magical girls. She straight up despises Mami partly because in most timelines Mami is the one responsible for Madoka becoming a magical girl due to her emotional fragility, partly because Homura is in some part jealous of how Madoka always relies on and believes in Mami. She shows little to no emotional distraught towards Sayaka's downward spiral only helping her when she realizes that Sayaka's death could prompt Madoka to become a magical girl to save her, a part of it is Homura caring for Sayaka but let's not kid ourselves it's mostly because Sayaka's death would affect Madoka. She uses Kiyoko as a tool to end Walpurgis night and again shows no emotional distraught over Kiyoko's death. The only moment where she shows emotional vulnerability and true caring is when it concerns Madoka and only her. My point is her love for Madoka is selfish and obsessive which is shown by the fact that only time in the show where she accepts death being when she can dies with Madoka by her side. The only thing she truly wants is to be with Madoka.
Even at the very end when Madoka tells her about her decision Homura vehemently refuses to accept a wish and a system that relies on Madoka taking on the suffering of all magical girls a system that puts Madoka forever away from Homura.
And there comes Rebellion. If Mado Magica the tv show is a deconstruction but ultimately a celebration of the magical girl genre then Rebellion is the same but for fanfiction. The movie uses Homura's wishfullfiling labyrinth at the beginning as a way to point the flaws of bad fanfiction how it often uses the aesthetic but misses the point of the original often downright insulting it. But the movie ultimately celebrates good fanfiction the ones that points ou to and rectifies the flaws of the original. Here the flaw being the lack of resolution for Homura's character arc. Because the fact that she just got over her obsession and is going to fight on for the sake of Madoka's wish when in her last scene she was vehemently against said wish is at worst character inconsistency at best a huge disappointment since her arc litteraly happened off-screen. In Rebellion Homura's character goes full circle she recognises her love as obsessive, possessive and selfish and fully embraces it. That's why she calls herself evil she fully recognises how her actions are a denial of Madoka's wish but is done lying to herself. The final nail in the coffin was when Madoka saved her. Right before that she was wishing for Sayaka and or Kiyoko to kill her basically choosing death over leading the incubators to Madoka but more importantly over being and living in a system that bases itself on the suffering of her best friend. When denied that option she finally breaks and decides to stop denying herself what she wants. But the movie does not show her answer as right it very much points to it flaws through Sayaka's words but also shows it merits through Sayaka's actions the moment she realises that here she can have a normal happy life. The movie goes even further by showing us that Madoka will eventually awaken and then she will most likely fight Homura. Just as there were flaws to Madoka's system there were flaws to Homura's. And no they couldn't have just talked that already happened in the tv show in that weird colorful space at the end and Madoka carried on anyway.
And if you somehow got here after this wall of words could you like edit your comment cause it's kinda hard to understand you with how weirdly you structure your sentences and choose the wrong form of words I'm guessing that English is not your first language but still. Also are you seriously bringing up a spin-off game anime that is not canon to this argument. Really?

abou bakr diom abou bakr diom ok, what the fuck, am I actually seeing this!? Is this actually real?? Or am I just in some kind of weird flavour dream and I’m just seeing stiff, homura, who had NO experience of letting go of her obsession towards madoka who Cleealy was not aware of what she meant by saying she’s not in the same timeline not only are you telling me that she just ‘’trapped’’ her and the rest! But somehow you’re saying that she is definitely Doing ‘’noting’’ wrong with what she did to stop the end of the act?...
XD.....oh my god...Whoa, that statement is so fucking stupid I actually laughed at it this...this! Is some kind of satire of madoka like a literal parody of the series it is-so Goddam stupid that I can almost swear that this was a robot chicken sketch, if I didn’t see the movie and someone straight up told me this explanation I’d just laugh it off.

@@Gordonfreeman551 When did I say that Homura did nothing wrong all I did was correct you when you said that Homura tried to kill Madoka because she didn't and I continued on to explain Homura's reasoning for her actions in Rebellion. I literally say near the end of my previous comment that the movie tells us that Homura is not right. For crying out loud she literally calls herself the devil after absorbing a part of Madoka's powers. Homura's system is one of hollow happiness it's a temporary measure a distraction from suffering. The point of the movie is not that Homura is right it simply does what the anime didn't finishing Homura's character arc. It's one my problems with this video it tries to say that Homura did nothing wrong when she clearly did. Homura is a character who stayed stagnant throughout the show. She had only one goal protecting Madoka. And at the end of the anime Madoka sacrifices herself for the sake of the world so of course Homura would be against it. Yet the anime just tells us that she got over it off-screen. She is the only character who never truly come face to face with the nature of her wish and the movie addresses that. Now if you could please give me a constructive response with actual points that would be much appreciated. And again I'm having a hard time understanding what you're writing maybe it's auto-correct but if you're like more comfortable with say French I can do French cause right now I have to reread your comment to actually get what you're saying

I found Homuras love for Madoka to be stifling, suppressing, and borderline abusive with her decisions. I honestly find it kind of gross that so many people can love such a deadpan yandere. If anything, I can see too many similarities between her and kyubey. Their deception by leaving out vital bits of information to everyone throughout the series, the lack of care they really put into any other character BUT Madoka (for different reasons of course), and by the end of rebellion it seemed that the only bit of humanity that Homura could cling to was her obsession with Madoka. And even that was starting to unravel slowly in the last hallway scene of Rebellion. I can only hope that Madoka is “allowed” to get her wits back at some point.

Homaru is a stalker obsessed with madoka. The madoka she knows isn't her madoka very few of them know her. Also the incubators didn't even know the truth about the law of cycles and they wouldn't have tried to mess with the law of cycles if homaru hadn't told them about the witch system

Hey I know this is a bit too late, but the situation is a bit more complicated than you think. You forgot this video told that the Incubators will eventually find out the truth ab the Law of Cycles whether Homura told them or not. This actually has been proven, and it's no longer a theory or a plain rumour the fandom is spreading. Sorry if the text is too long and hard to read but I feel like this has to be explained clearly.
If you read the Wraiths Arc, which its main protagonist is Homura, you'll understand it. While Homura destroyed the Wraith, Kyubei had already stolen a broken part of her shield which contained all of her memories she had lost in the new world Madoka created. Everything including Witches, Wraiths, Puella Magi, Homura's timeline, and Madoka. Even Homura couldn't remember why did she become a Puella Magi and almost forgot everything about Madoka.
The only thing carries her memories is the shield and as the ending of the main series suggested, she lost that ability, and during the fight with the Wraiths, her memories had been messed up, then she got depressed and got her emotions eaten. But later she regained her memories, took back the shield, only to see it broken and disposed. She left it behind and went on to fight the Wraiths with the bow as her only weapon.
The bad news is somehow Kyubei got a small part of the shield. Pretty sure he stalked her or something. Homura's words to Kyubei is just a plus point, if Kyubei didn't get that shield he wouldn't even mind about it. You think he would believe some words from a Puella Magi who had just got her whole emotions eaten, out of nowhere? Yeah, Homura let her guard down this time, bc she has the right to believe that Kyubei wouldn't believe it. She just said it out bc she felt so lonely. Who know her shield got stolen while it's believed to be out of existence? But that also means that even if Homura said nothing, Kyubei would still harm her to lure LoC down, bc he got the proof, if she tried to hide, he'd eventually know she was telling lies. Remember what he said" It's an interesting story but we don't have any means to confirm it". If he didn't have the mean, Homura's story was nothing more like a fantasy. Now he got it, without anyone knowing. By successfully stealing a part of the shield, he was able to get a part of the picture. The entire species had already known that girl's full name, showing just how big of a fuss when the shield got stolen. I doubt Homura ever told them Madoka's name. With one hand touched at the picture, now Kyubei only needs to see it, which he succeeded...again in Rebellion. I'm not lying. If you still don't believe it, go and check the Wraiths Arc yourself. I believe it'll also explain where that Devil power comes from. It's a canonical arc happening after the main story and before Rebellion. But I know... Wraiths Arc is actually unpopular...in my opinion so I know most people won't even care reading it. I feel like this is just too unfair and uninformative to put all the burden on Homura and blame her while she has no idea about what and how much the Incubators had collected.
At this point I don't think any characters can understand Homura, she knows too much things others don't know about.
