$40 Wooden Shoes Netherlands 🇳🇱

- ■ MARKEN, NETHERLANDS: When I go shopping for shoes, the choice usually stands between Nike or Adidas. In the Netherlands however, it's less about the brand but more about the material; or even which type of wood. For the Dutch are famous for making shoes from European Willow trees or yellow poplar, called wooden clogs or Klompen!
But how on earth do you distinguish a quality wooden pair of shoes from one that will break with the first stomp of a cow's hoof? What is a fair price for a high quality authentically handmade pair of Dutch wooden shoes? Where can you buy these shoes? And how exactly are they made?
To learn more about how the Dutch made their wooden clogs in the olden days as well as buy my very own first ever pair, I set out to the stunning village of Marken, a 20 minute drive from Amsterdam for an unusual shopping spree.
■ You can buy your own pair of wooden shoes and have them shipped to your home through their website: netherlandssouvenirs.com/

Probably it was a fresh made one,so it was still a bit humid what makes it softer.
no it's because he has to make a new one now
He was quite vigorously hammering that small shoe though.

It is extremely satisfying like watch scrap grinders eating cars
Yeah. It’s satisfying just looking at the wood being cut so easily.

I remember as a kid deciding to put my slippers inside my mom's old dutch wooden shoes and that became my indoor footwear for the next few years.
Lol
I'm Dutch and I wear the wooden shoes 'klompen' every day when I go to the local supermarket. I love them so much, love to keep the tradition going!
Had ik maar een vriendin die klompen droeg...
Awesome!
That shoe shop worker has to be one of the most wholesome people I've ever had the pleasure of listening too.
I could see myself chatting with him for hours about anything at all, he seems so genuine. Thanks for the video Harald!
Harald, this is one of the most interesting videos you have done in awhile. You may not have realized it but you were in what is called a steam driven line shaft shop. The line shaft is the overhead shaft with pulleys that drive the machines on the floor via belts. This concept started the industrial revolution in the late 19th century and was perfected first in Europe and spread to the US. This system powered the metal lathes and milling machines and a host of other manufacturing machines. The protective glasses you wore in the wood shoe shop
are a direct result of this early technology. Absolutely everything we take for granted today had its beginning in a steam driven line shaft shop. Do a little research and you will see what I mean.

Thanks for explaining!
They aren't protective glasses, last vid I saw they didn't have lenses lmao
dank zombie Harald is irrelevant in my opinion. A rich boy strutting his privileged life!

You advertised his shop and you paid the shoes and give him + 60€ tip top men 👌
And this video allmost hit the million views, making at least 2000 dolllars 😂
What an amazing video. I literally felt as if I went on a vacation to an early industrial shop just before modern industrial times. Very ingenious how the Dutch and Germans designed their machines, and the steam driven belts captivate my mind while making me think just how quickly things could go wrong if not paying attention with a long sleeve, or long hair or long beard. Interesting that your guide was bald. Anyway, what a nice adventure, thank you Harald.
Hey Harald. I'm from the Netherlands but I live on the border of belgium/netherlands. U should see belgium and its chocolate while ur there. I own 2 motorcycles, a Z900 and a MT07. I saw u driving a Z900 in Spain and I like to offer to lend u the Z900. I could drive the MT07 or other way around. If Harald approves just send me a DM lol.

This is great. I always wondered how the Dutch Clogs were made as we always get Dutch clogs key tags 🏷 as presents from the dutch guests at the Hotel 🏨
Haha I am from the Netherlands and I walk on my leather "wooden shoes" almost every day for the past 10 years. I love them! In Dutch we don't call them shoes but "klompen"😝
And in lithuanian we call them 'klumpė'.
In Serbia they are called Klompe
Just wondering if you guys could inform a Brit whether these are these the same as what we think of as clogs? Or just similar? Thank you 😁

Great video. I'm 40 now but when i was little i still regulary walked on klompen (wooden shoes) around the house. Also made plenty little sailboats from them :)
Really cool work shop for making wooden shoes! This was a super cool video in the shoe factory! Enjoyable!!!!!!!!!!
When you walk it sounds similar to a horse when it walks...😆😂
I died laughing when he broke the shoe while testing its durability
He was surprised himself but from my personal experience, I had worn one and they were very durable :-)
Reminds me of when Elon Musk was trying to test the durability of the Tesla truck and broke the window.
1 pair of klompen is enough for your whole life if they are properly made ofcourse
It was probably still wet/moist.
I think his mistake was using the shoe made for a 2 year old
I love his handkerchief ring. A mini clog! So cute
I respect the way you danced around this guys whirling workshop like a seven tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs.
How he cut shoe is how I cut my coconut yes yes!
