- Ray Lamontagne's acoustic (and beautiful) cover of Gnarls Barkley's song 'Crazy'
I remember when
I remember, when I lost my mind
There was something so pleasant about that phase
Even your emotions had an echo
In so much space
And when you're out there
Without care
I was out of touch
It wasn't because I didn't know enough
I just knew too much
Does that make me crazy
Does that make me crazy
Does that make me crazy
Probably
An I hope that you are having the time of your life
Oh but think twice
That's my only advice
Come on now
Who do you
Who do you think you are
Woah Woah
Bless your soul
Do you really think that you're in control
Well I think you're crazy
I think you're crazy
I think you're crazy
Just like me, yeah
My heroes had the heart
To lose their lives out on a limb
An all I remember
Is thinking I wanna be like them
Ever since I was little it looked like fun
It was no coincidence that I've come
I can die when I'm done
Maybe I'm crazy
Maybe you're crazy
Maybe we're crazy
Probably
A la la la la la la
a la la, a la la, a la la, a la la
yeah, yeah, yeah
wo-ah, woah, woah, woah, woah
lay lay lay lay
a la la, a la la, a la la, a la la
So annoying that this is not on spotify.. One of my all time favorite covers
Yes!!!!
@@shawnlawton5674 was just looking for it there. : (
Very annoying indeed!!!
Months later and it isn't even on Soundcloud anymore... Sad days, my friends...
Why is it not on Spotify. I wanna know
My life would have not been complete without having heard this.
This!!!
Agreed. Yes exactly. This man has completed my musical souls needs ;)
How would you know?
mine too i guess
@@MrHandsomeboynow i dont make the rules :/
One of the rare covers that completely transforms the song, while paying proper homage to the original.
Elegantly Professed
This is the guy who wrote it
@@peterdoherty8518 wrong! This is an italian composition taken from the soundtrack of the spaghetti western film "Preparati la bara!", by Ferdinando Baldi; The track composed by Gianfranco & Gian Piero Reverberi, is titled "Nel cimitero di Tucson"
spot on
This man has more talent than 90 percent of the mainstream artists today.
@@Ms-K-w2x I've been in music 25 years . I would say I know the majority of them. New ones are always coming out but honestly the majority of radio play is 50 percent talented artists and the other 50 percent talented PR departments
I'm not trying g so the % is larger
No. Love him & this cover, but no.
@@augustin3 if you are in the music industry you know- this guy is absolutely more talented than 90%
He writes his own songs which are phenomenal and he creates simple beautiful arrangements himself, and he plays and sings beautifully- the high high high majority of artists have co-writers or ghost writers and can’t do an arrangement to save their lives, let alone sing well without auto tune lol
Don’t let the cowboy chords fool you
I JUST found out through 23 & Me that this artists mother is my Dad's 1st Cousin.
I love that this was posted in 08 and people are still viewing and liking it. Keep good music in circulation.

This man's voice is HONEY.
this man's voice is the bees knees
+Shan-chan Ichiban It's the bear's hair
+Sorryscene Best response to the way i feel ever.
+Sorryscene Honey as fuck. Too bad his last album wasn't.
No doubt Mike D. Ray must of been on a coke binge and needed some fast cash. LOL
That smokey voice is killing.
its melting
Hmmm :)
🎵☀️🎵
So so special. How do we get the world to hear this? Raw, passionate, real. A true gem.
Lamontagne is a big mountain of talent.
+Kleyson Pontes talent plus life lived hard, a struggle, a huge heart
Never. Ever. Assume.
+Cy Borg it's not a physical struggle to survive, but a psychological one.
urgh
I get it
This guy could cover *any* song and it would sound amazing!
Get him to cover Barbie Girl by Aqua, and make that argument.
@@themightyleeoh5867I was about to post that exact same suggestion 😂
10 years later, I am still listening to this vid.
👌 Best cover ever?
This just may be my favorite cover of all time. Hendrix 'Watchtower' and Jeff Buckley 'Hallelujah' level awesome.
Personally, the greatest cover of all time is quite easily hurt by johnny cash, that song is brutally better than the already good original by nine inch nails
Pre1321 saw him last night. He has soul x
Jeff Buckleys for damn sure. Still brings a tear to my eye every time I hear is rendition. His dad was a singer as well and you can hear where he got his voice. His dad was Tim Buckley.
@My name is August West
Brash? Arrogant? Yes.
One-hit wonder? ......
You'd be hard-pressed to find a Brit who can't sing along to all of "Don't Look Back in Anger", and most of the rest of the world will come in on the chorus.
More people have bought Oasis music than all but 4 other bands. In history.
3 of those 4 are Queen, the Rolling Stones, and (of course) The Beatles. (Also ABBA, but the 70s were confusing, and there's no accounting for Scandinavians)
Oasis were jerks when they were young; but if you're counting hits, character doesn't enter into it. I'll take their music and leave the tantrums.
Also, Ryan Adams' cover of "Wonderwall" is absolutely incredible!
@jkaanta8555 To be perfectly frank, at the time, Americans could get 12 cds for a penny through BMG and other companies. And Oasis was one of those CDs. Not a soul I know went into the store and asked for Oasis. It was literally force fed. Also. I don't know any of the words to Don't look Back in Anger, and neither do any of my 40+ year old friends. Wonderwall? Every douche bag with a guitar played it, and all of us cringed in unison and hated that guy.
Crazy. Every time I listen this song, no matter which version, i have to listen it at least one or two times more. I hits me every single time since i heard it the first time. what a masterpiece
Exactly the same, and this cover is my next fav after Gnarls version from The Basement
His voice really adds gravity to the lyrics. Never needed this song more than I do now.
I could not have read/heard something more relevant to my today than your shared emotion of thought. I am sliding off the face of the mountain ,I had no business climbing. Or creating.
Thank you. I just caught my breath!
...when the performance is so good, you dread the song ending, and you want it to flow forever, like a river.
Rivers don't flow forever, every river has a source and a mouth.
William hick forever describes time not distance
Chris Roland well then it is incorrect to compare it to a river, no river flows forever.
William hick Stop your nonsense and enjoy the music. Like H20, water is ever-present and ephemeral. Riverbed is just one of the 'solid' entities that contains it when it is not traveling in more invisible evaporated forms or in form of raindrops, condensation, fog, etc. etc. If I have to take sides, Chris Rolad is the smartest in his response because he understood I was referring to the quality of 'timelessness' or dissolution of the barrier between visible and 'invisible' or immaterial matter that nevertheless can still touch us, envelope us...
You sound fucking high.
The fact I can say my mom introduced his music to be when I was just a toddler makes me really proud of the awesome woman she is 💖
Colby Jeannine let me sing to u
Count yourself lucky. Mine introduced me to James Blunt.
+Thomas King
and mine introduced me to just "blunts" XD
Armaan I wish mine did. It'd have numbed out the Blunters (James that is).
@@armaanrandev7336 I'm dead 🤣🤣
This version still kills me. Ray's passion and voice and the slow/acoustic rendering of it just make the lyrics seem so more profound than in the original.
This is an italian composition taken from the soundtrack of the spaghetti western "Preparati la bara!", by Ferdinando Baldi; The track composed by Gianfranco & Gian Piero Reverberi, is titled "Nel cimitero di Tucson"
I have schizo affective disorder which means that I go through occasional periods of insanity resembling schizophrenia. This version of this song makes me cry... Thanks, Ray.
this is SO unbelievably good, 4.15 minutes of procrastination well spent...
Dude ,you're so right , this comment needs more appreciatiom

This cover proves that he can sing ANYTHING and always be fantastic!
Hurdy me too!! It's fantastic
This version gave the song it's true meaning!!! Mind blown!!!
same. id heard it hundreds of times then i heard this and it all made sense. crazy
Did you listen to the lyrics in the original ? The meaning was always there...

Well, what can I say? Sawyer Fredericks has introduced me to an absolutely fabulous singer.... This guy is stellar.... a good cover like this of a fine classic... well.... this is just fabulous work.
Ray's voice is pure feeling
Ray LaMontagne's voice will forever remind me of a guy who really thought he was in love with me, but he was too young to really knew what love was.
He's so underated. LOVE YOU RAY
Ray is a very talented young man that expresses from the heart. We need more entertainment like him. A very sincere person. Thank you, Ray, Blessings...
Young? The dude is 41...

tu sais ce qu'ils te disent les vieux de 41 ans !!!!

His music speaks to me. He sings of the human experience. It's a shame artists like these don't get the attention they deserve.
I have always been coming to this video to listen to this song since it was made. Thank you from Alaska.
This is a soulful rendition to this masterpiece of a song, He has a simplicity that is layered with depth... 💞 🎼🎶

Great cover. Ray is a very much needed and soulful voice in a time of technology overdose and terrible generic studio music. Bless this man and light to all 🌈🙏
Coming back to this over and over again for 14 years now!
Me too!
Yeah man i cant remember when this song caught me but it has never let go
I searched this guy so much that eventually the Internet got sick of me, then sent me this one.
My favorite version other than Walk Off the Earth cover. Cee- Lo cannot yet be denied justice.
I feel emotion through every single syllable that he sings!
I decided to check out his other songs and came across this. This man could sing the phone book and make it sound amazing. His voice is awesome and matches his talent
I find myself listening to this on a regular basis… well done , Ray.
DAAAAAYUUUUUM...That VOICE and such TALENT...Drips honey
His version of Crazy is just awesome ...His voice reach the inner chamber within me.... Cleansing my soul..

how have i missed this all these years?! LOVE IT!
just discovered him tonight and that was my thoughts precisely !
anz10 i have been crazy for ray for years! he has soooo much fabulous music that has been underrated and passed over for too long. glad he's getting his due now! he did a great job on this song too!
I can't explain how much I love this song and version of this song
back again - always so special...
He makes me feel like there are still prophets among us. I met him once after a show he did in my home town, he was a very quiet but incredibly genuine person. People had been crowded around him for a while before I finally got a chance to talk to him; they weren't really trying to get autographs, they just wanted to give him a hug and tell him how much he had helped them.
Love this version! He infuses the song with so much passion.
Intense and soulful. Love his voice SO much!
Wow. I'm blown away.
Just my favorite song (and version) of the world.
The lyrics are meaningful for me. Ray's raspy voice delivers those lyrics perfectly.
I think im crazy for listening to this 100000 times
Noor Ahmed 🤣🤣🤣🤣
No
his voice is full of sophisticated emotions
Ahh...sophisticated emotions 😢brilliant 👏describes his voice perfectly 🥰
Amazing voice. One of those rare instances where the cover is better than the original.
You gotta be kidding me,... This guy is GOLD
I recently had a discussion about music and the quality of music over the decades with some colleagues. Well, discussion is a big word. I just told them that "no the music in the '60s wasn't any better, it's just that you don't hear the '60s crap anymore, you only hear the good stuff." This song will still be played in 50 years. In many versions. Simply because it is a great song. I love the original. I love this version. There will be many versions to come. It's a classic in the making.
I've downloaded this and can't stop playing it. Gives me chills.
Love this song from day one, but i have to say Ray gives it a whole different feel...good!
How good is this mans voice?? Awesome. Hooked is an understatement.
literally just stumbled across this guy WHAT IS THIS SORCERY! where has this guy been all my life!
This cover and James Bay's cover of If I Ain't Got You are the best covers I've heard.
I love this musician. True musician. Right on, bro! 🙂 Gossip In The Grain is a suburb album - Like Ryan Adam’s Hearbreaker - that will never die. 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
great version - great voice! Love it!
This voice is what make me Crazy.
So glad I just discovered Ray Lamontagne! What a gorgeously raw voice.

Oh my damn.... Why haven't I heard his cover of this until NOW?!
This is a PERFECT example of how there are so many great lyrics out there...but.....someone like RAY can make them AMAZING!!!!
Pure Class love it❤
His voice is just magical.
For some reason, this is one of my favorite songs ... first time I heard it by Ray Lamontagne ... I like it very much. I actually can understand/hear the lyrics which is great.
Even Ron Swanson would shed a tear to this perfection
Holy crap.....Ray just better. Been watching from a while ago, why is a boy band mainstream yet ray isn't......society is messed up.....
Ray I thank you sincerely 🙏
❤ ok my world is 100 times better and now complete. Hearing his voice sing my favorite song. I can die happy now.
Last time I BBQ'D I didn't have any BBQ sauce, I was playing Ray lamontagne while I was grilling and smoking.. my ribs were "smokey" and "sweet" and the brisket was "tender" and very moist.. it was such a simple thing..
Anyone still here in 2025?
Love this version of this song - but I like most any Ray does
Rays voice is so unique and while listening your thoughts can drift to a nice calm place
Yep!
Yeah I just came across it again. I loved this version years ago and really liked it. Perhaps the algorithm is reminding us of a time we thought we were crazy but in these times now. Well they certainly are more crazy.
Probably the best cover I've ever heard of a song
this is poetry...and art
Totally Awesome bless him lord for he has helped many going threw depression n anxiety n grieving hearts...to say what they feel ...when you can't find the words ....when your so hurt you can't even talk about how you feel ......helped me grieve in silence n also let go of my brother.thanks Ray
