      For Catalina I'd take 1 setup for Deep dropping rock fish and 1 setup for top water flyline sardine / jig . I own a few budget setups I use , for deep drop a penn general purpose 309 reel level wind with Great line capacity. My budget top water reels I really like are the Piscifun Alijoz 300 low profile baitcaster . Both reels are under $100 and do the job . Good luck out there . Hope you Slay. 🎣🐟😎

    Love the silly fisherman banter. It's great to go on a trip with people who have a good sense of humor. Those are some great bonies! Great sashimi, poke, and BBQ. I don't know why people think they're trash fish!
    Don't forget to attend the Perch Jerker meetup at the HB Pier on Saturday, 3/26 from 5:30 AM to about 1:00 PM.

      Lol I think that might have been me. I just got one cuz my friend had it and said good things. I was just using it for flylining though and not jig casting, that why it’s higher up the rod. Let me know though if I should change it cuz I just got into fishing like a year ago

      @@bulletheat4u846 no worries, just teasing. But it’s beneficial to have a bit longer rod on a party boat - it gives you a casting distance advantage, especially when fly-lining light baits like anchovies.

      @@bulletheat4u846 for me personally I have 4 deckhand style rods and I put the clamp 17” from the bottom of the rod for casting purposes. But everyone has their preference I’ve seen some put them as short as 10”-12” but standard is normally 15” I moved mine up 2” more so it’s more comfortable fighting a fish when you have the rod in your armpit.

I was fishing the spinning reels up to the front of the boat using several of my Shimano Stella 14k. I think one of your friends (or maybe just someone you met on the trip) was named David. I am new for the fishing culture in the state. How come everyone was using a very stiff rod? For the size of the fishes showing in this video, I think rod of PE3=50lbs is way more then enough. Maybe PE2=35lbs rod works well too. Also, checked the depth of the around Catalina island, the depth is around 100-350ft. A reel with the capacity of PE2/3 200meter should be good using there. Means Stella 5000 is already good enough. Why used such a monster size 14k? It is 675gram. 675g plus the stiff rod must be kinda heavy setup, Is it necessary for fishing there? Looking forward to join the Pursuit.

      @@smashrc123 I have a Stella 6k and five other larger sized Stella from 14k through 30k. The 14k is not as big as you may think. The rods I use are Ocea Plugger Flex which are quite parabolic and are not stiff at all.
      Yes I could go smaller but the additional line capacity if hooking on a yellowtail or white sea bass is helpful indeed. A bass rod would do at Catalina but it’s simply personal preference and most people who fish use the gear that they have. I’ve used the 6k there for sure and will always do so but the 14k is my favorite reel size in the Stella and works perfectly for me to be honest.

    Hey I am going on a yellowtail trip and I have just a question is green braid good for yellowtail or should I get white braid

    • @ArthurPereira1974
      @ArthurPereira1974  2 роки тому

      Great question , I recommend white for visibility, makes dodging in and out of other fisherman's lines easier . Pretty sure deck hands prefer you use white also. Lastly I saw a color test , which white is the least visible color underwater at depth ,which may or may not matter to the YT . It's definitely my color of choice

    Thanks for clearing that up but if you check minute 4:32 and zoom in, that rod's an SCT inshore, says Okuma on the rod. I can tell from the spiral wrap up the entire blank. Reason I ask is that I have 2 and I was wondering if you had the 8ft or 8'6. I have the 8ft H and XH, great rods. Looks like a black diawa bait casting reel on it. Not trying to be a smart alleck. I actually booked the San Diego om Sunday. Gonna try that CTX Tri fiber 9ft and 7'6 out. Thanks

I have a SC 4610 albacore special SCT-AC-661mh 6' 6" 20-50lb braid , mated with a Fathom HS 400 Low profile reel . I also have the same rod in a 7' with a Daiwa Lexa HD . Spinner model SCT-AS-701MH 7' mated with a Penn Battle 3 HS 6000. I really have enjoyed fishing these rods . They hang fish very well , all alps and Fuji equipment , and built to last . I hope i covered it all . sorry if its to much info . Hope you slay on the San Diego on Sunday Have a killer day .
