I remember when Japanese cars started to be sold in large numbers (late '60s/early '70s) and people sneered at them as junk made from recycled beer cans. Times have changed.
Japanese cars were designed with a 7 year life in mind. The fact that these engines are over 40 years old is amazing. Hopefully, you can get two good engines out of these five, plus parts.
I’ve decided to take on the task of fixing up my family’s 1970 360 van. Any help would be awesome. We’ve had it in the shop since 1990. Complete, save for a broken “Subaru” badge in the front, passenger side window glass, and I can’t tell but something with the gas pedal also.
Would love to find one of these vans Even if I didn’t get it running I would definitely restore it cosmetically I would like to find one that was a project one that was in rough shape it would be a fun project to do
I have a 360 car I might sell. It’s mostly complete. Motor did run but been sitting and haven’t had time to free the pistons back up. More into old hit miss engines. Have a md title for it.
I'm not going to make the usual comment of "that'll buff out" because it won't...you've got some real wrenching & head scratching ahead of you. 5 engines to find 2 usable cranks...."Good Luck! We're all counting on you!"
The "previous owner" botchery is rampant on ANY engines whether new or old. So do those cranks carry a labyrinth seal in the middle or is it your regular style of two stroke crank oil seal.
Two stroke engines make power every second stroke four stroke engines only one in four make power, induction ( suck ) compression ( squeeze ) ignition ( bang ) exhaust. four strokes. hence why two stroke engines generally make good power for their size. Also far fewer moving parts, No valves valve springs, just crankshaft con rods piston(s).

There was a grain of truth in that. They were well engineered but dissolved in salted areas.
@@urbanoman7689 mitsubishi recently ran into this problem in the northeast with some of their new models...
Interesting jigsaw puzzle; looking forward to seeing the result. 🙂
Keep the 360 content coming!
A cooler for the battery? What a novel idea. Good luck on the mix and match.

Such fun to have this window into your work. 👍
I love this! Defying all the odds, making something out of nothing (essentially) and correcting past generation's midsets! Legit inspiring!

Wow, flashback.....watching you bang the cylinders off of that engine was the first video of yours I watched.
"Bent, broken twisted and busted" the is a country music song right there 🤠

It would be really cool if you took a road trip in one of your cool and interesting cars.
Like if you agree.
I love it. True dedication.
I recently got a van and it came with 4 engines. Checked serial numbers and none match. How do I tell what engine is what
Subaru 360 Van / truck engines Have special engine tin a fuel pump ump that bolts to the engine and hatachi distributors
My kingdom for a crankshaft!
Good luck!
please show us more of rebuilding these engines from the best parts jigsaw game
I would just take the broken shaft out and put another in the van engine
Please do a Le Car drive video!!

Gosh I remember when that van first came to your shop. Has it really been that long?
Where can I get parts from
They wont be making any more so save what you can :)
Restoring a muscle car doesn't even match to a 2 stroke engine restoration
