Mezmerize is my fav!! Too short of an album for sure, but I just love the experimental side of S.O.A.D with songs like Lost in Hollywood, and Revenga!! And Sad Statue.... OMG!!! Definitely one of their most underatted songs!! Holy Mountains from Hypnotize is probably my fav Soad song. Man I wish they could have a follow-up!!

Nothing below a B Tier for me. I enjoy all SOAD's albums. I always considered Hypnotize and Mesmerize two halves of a double album. Fun fact: the physical CD cases would also allow you to combine them.

I recently revisited their entire discography and I can't stop listening to them. Definitely one of my throwback teenage-years bands for sure. They are still great in my book. Black humor, harmonics, catchy song structures accompanied with an important sociopolitical message (this band actually got me interested in politics, hard to believe).
Here's my personal ranking:
S-Tier: Toxicity
A-Tier: S/T
B-Tier: Steal This Album!, Mesmerize/Hypnotize (even though it took me a long time to appreciate Hypnotize, it was a slow-burner for me)

To me, self titled is the heaviest stuff they put out, toxicity was a little softer but still had some of that self titled energy. Steal this Album was the bridge between the old stuff and the “new” stuff (RELEASE MORE MUSIC) and mezmerize and hypnotize are a little more grounded, but I love all the soad albums, and there’s not a single bad song they came out with.
I would actually argue that given the eccentric/sporadic nature of this band, Steal This Album feels like a more complete picture of the bands sound then you give it credit for. I get it being inconsistent, but I feel it makes a lot of the songs stand out. Conversely, it’s for this reason that Mezmerize has long been my least favorite (still love it to death) as it’s much more concise in scope and direction for the most part.
Toxicity > Steal This Album > Hypnotize > ST > Mezmerize

as a sidenote, i think some tracks on STA are really brilliant. nuguns and ego brain def capture their unique instrumentation and choruses. i just think highway song is brilliant. roulette and streamline go together blissfully

Never really got to the point where I could name their albums but my favorite songs are toxicity ,chop suey, and B.Y.O.B. Great video as always.

My mom had great taste in music. I remember listening to Mezmerise daily from when I was like 10 to 13 and getting sad when the disk started skipping 😂

Honestly for a “Mainstream” band you gotta give them credit for being original. Self Titled is kinda Avant Garde/experimental. But honestly, Steal this album is honestly my favorite.

A tier - Hypnotize, Steel this album
One thing I'll note is Soldier side from mezmorize is so criminally underated just in hall of system of a downs discography it's probably their most mature, dark yet beautiful songs they've ever made.
Also in lyrical themes Mezmorize and hypnotize is by far their most ambitious and some of the stuff they say in both albums holds up scarily well, especially for the time they both came out.
I love this band so much, they don't have a single bad album PERIOD I wouldn't say all of it is perfection of course but it sure is one hell of a feat for what the achieved.

Yep, system's first album is definitely their best. I think their whole catalogue is great but there's something really special about their debut record that i just keep coming back to

steal this album!: there are quite a few songs i like, but its maybe a low c tier, its underrated tho

hypnotize: a tier, seems more professional and agressive then their self-titled, has several underrated songs (along with steal this album!)

I know I underrated Toxicity, but there is no such thing as a bad SOAD album. I love Steal this album too, they are all masterpieces. It's just that there was so much better, that I had to keep Toxicity that low.

correct... their first album (it's just like deftones with adrenaline) is somehow forgotten but is their best, angriest, hungriest, raw, BEST RIFFS fucking awesome... it's S tier stuff... (both of these albums)

What software do you use to record your videos like this? I mean, as far as having your screen minimized and it displaying what your doing on the computer while recording.
I record regular video on my phone and then my screen with a free capture software. Then I edit it all together in post.

this might just be me but I honestly think that Steal This Album is just as good as toxicity theyre both S tier albums IMO

I plead guilty to criminally ignoring their self titled album, I love toxicity but the guitar tone on it is crap (looking at you Rick Ruben) reminds me of Limp Bizkit or something..

I thought the Kennedys reunited and put out a hardcore album when I heard the first record. It was so new, different, but familiar. A+ on the first album, A on the 2nd.

I don't understand all the love for Mezmerize.
Sure, there are a few great songs (BYOB, Cigaro), but most of the songs are just unimpressive and not their best work. Or not the most memorable.
I also think some songs just sounded a little too "same-y." Consistent, yes, but it makes some of the kinda blend together.
Hypnotize I think is a better record, it has more songs and a lot more memorable and good tracks. And it has so many moments of songs bleeding into each other.
Mezmerize is my least favorite, but I still love it!

@@touch0826 Those weren't my "highlights," those were just examples of songs where I acknowledge how good they are. I wouldn't say there are any bad songs on Mezmerize, I just don't get anything from this record like I do the others. It doesn't do as much for me. Almost 2 years later, I don't remember making that original comment but I still stand by it.
I think their 1st 2 are God tier. And the rest are awesome tier.

Mezmerize is easily their most consistent album, with every track being great in some way (besides Cocaine imo). Hypnotize is not AS memorable as Mezmerize, but it still has mostly great stuff. And even though Steal this Album! is their worst, I feel like you discredited it a bit. Highway Song is one of their best songs, plus we can't forget Ego Brain, Innervision, Roulette, and Streamline.
As someone who remembers getting toxicity when it released, I feel the Self Tilted is better.
Toxicity might be one of their most padded albums and lower than most might put it.
Decent band. But, I never really considered them metal.

another person who force himself to "hate" on STA, where are the fillers beside 36 ? Why is it not consistent ? variety is good in music I dont want to hear the same song 16 times. It might be a collection of b-side but all these songs were not less good than toxicity. Half of soad members favorite album is STA. Highway Song is S tier song.
I love people that, when faced with someone who simply has a different taste or opinion, has to cope by saying they intentionally “forced” themselves to hate something… which I never even said I did. Been listening to these albums since they came out… I’ve had plenty of time to decide what I personally do and do not enjoy as much. I don’t care what anyone else says. That’s why this is MY list and not yours. Chill. It’s music.
