  • In this video we will be connecting a motorguide xi5 to the simrad go 7. A lot of motorguide users think only Lowrance units are compatible. If you ever lose your remote, this is a great way to still get use out of it.#boating #fishing (How to install a NMEA 2000 gateway kit)(How to install a NMEA 2000 starter kit.

Great video, if anyone is struggling with the Simrad not picking up the motor on the end of the GW, make sure that the little arrows align. It's not mentioned in the video but was required and it will go in upside down.

I know I have been putting out a lot of tech videos on the motorguide Xi5 lately. Honestly I couldn't find but one video on it, so i decided to try and help other anglers. Some of this stuff no one ever tells you. If this video was helpful please show support by liking, subscribing, and smashing the Bell.

Paul, thank you for this video. I just successfully did the installation you describe, but with a legacy Simrad NSS 7 evo2 (software 18.3, up to date). Same NMEA and Gateway arrangement you installed. What really helped is your pointing out the start up sequence is critical: power off to Xi5, the Simrad multi function display and the NMEA backbone circuit. Deploy the TM. Power up the TM and wait for the GPS signal received lamp to go green on the TM. Power up the NMEA Simrad/Xi5 backbone (I have a toggle switch on the console of my Pathfinder). Wait a few seconds. Power up the Simrad. Look for the "Trolling" message and propeller icon in the lower left of the screen. Touch the icon to launch the control menu. This is all just as you so clearly described and illustrated. Well done. I have spent a lot of time sorting this out.
The tip on the "diagnostics" function on the Simrad to confirm the NMEA backbone is "on" is very helpful as well.
How do we know what software version the XI5 is running? That is next on my list.

Now that i have read and understand what all these units can do. I would have never bought a boat with analog gauges on it. They just take up space on the dash. Now all systems can be linked to one unit.

South Alabama here, and pretty much have the same boat as you. I have a Lowrance Ti2, but for some reason can not get it to recognize my trolling motor.

I need help. I hooked everything up even a circuit breaker on the power side. I can’t get my trolling motor to work off my simrad go 7 he mentioned a switch from the NMEA 2000 to simrad but i don’t see how you add a switch between that cable to cut on last for it to work.

Paul, has there been any software updates that eliminated the use of the on/off switch on the nema network? It's been 2 years, would have thought they would have figured it out by now. Thanks.

Nice Video. I have mine set up exactly like yours everything displays exactly the same; one big problem. When I choose any option from my Simrad GO12 XSE the trolling motor just spins me in constant circles. No feature will work as designed. Now if I use my remote the motor works great. For the past six months I've ditched the remote but I'd really like to get this working for all the added features. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Paul, Nice job. Very helpful. Thank you. Do you have a link for using the popup (shown at the end) that interfaces with the trolling motor on your Simrad screen. Thanks again!

My father bought a boat and first day we got tour with the man who sold the boat. He demonstrated how to use motorguide via Simrad. After that we tried it on our own but autopilot didnt work. All the cable system is same. And i alsi tried all the switches but says bus off. Cant figured it out..

Maybe could you please show how to wire power switch? Don't understand any electrical things. The system is ready but can't turn bus off to on. I think we have problem with power switch..

What did you use in the hole where the troller motor first connects to the rest of the system? Some kind of rubber grommet of sorts? Thanks for the vid!
