- US President Joe Biden has said only the "Lord Almighty" could convince him to end his bid for re-election, as he sat for a rare primetime interview in an effort to calm Democratic concern over his candidacy.
Speaking to ABC News on Friday, Mr Biden also declined to take a cognitive test and make the results public in order to reassure voters he is fit to serve another term.
The 81-year-old once again pushed back on the idea, aired by some Democratic officials and donors, that he should stand aside for a younger alternative following his disastrous debate with Donald Trump last week.

When my father was dying in hospital he had early stage dementia, he couldn’t stand and his legs were covered in ulcers, yet he was still adamant that next year he was going to fly across the other side of the World to my house and put a new roof on it. The doctors told him he was in very bad situation and he was in heart failure but he would tell everyone they said he was getting better and would be out soon. Watching Joe Biden reminds me of my conversations with my dad in complete denial.

My father was the same when he was in hospice. They stopped giving him red blood cells, and his thoughts seemed akin to someone with hypoxia, scattered and unrealistic.

Young people having a bad cold is not the same as 80-year-olds having a bad cold. His immune system is much weaker and has to use everything it has compared to yours and mine. Not saying he’s the sharpest tool on the shed but if he had a bad cold it can be really bad.
As a health care professional it would seem that there is significant cognitive impairment.
