  • I swear I'm not looking for these...they just get sent to me.
    Today we're looking at another piece of garbage from Hollywood, this one called 'The Book of Clarence.' A movie about a conman who is trying to convince the Jewish world of 33 AD that he is the next Messiah, and win their fame. Supposedly it's a comedy like The Life of Brian...except there's nothing funny about it...the show takes itself quite seriously, and it also race swaps all the Jews to be African instead...
    Yeah, you know where this is going.
    Let's just get it over with.

    A good creative retelling would be the original Ben Hurr. That was an awesome movie during the time of Christ that actually glorifies Jesus. This movie looks like trash. Not to mention that if Jay Z said that this was about promoting Blacks because the Bible doesn't include them enough, then he is literally using Christ to help glorify something other than Himself.
    God hates a proudful and haughty spirit, and what is more proudful than trying to change the most significant historical event in history to include yourselves in it, and literally using the Son of God as a marketing tool to do it. Jay Z is literally doing the same thing as Clarence in the movie and is feeding off of Jesus's ministry to promote his own.

      Nah you missing part of it, Jay Z is so shallow that he doesn’t understand the Bible isn’t about ethnic representation, and even with that said there are Black people people mentioned and most of the people we read about would have been brown or yellow skinned.

    Christianity is so often mocked and taken for granted in Western society that I'm almost numb to it. It so frustrating to me. Especially when basic information about Christ, Christian doctrine, or the historical context of biblical stories are so widespread and available. Its not like we're hiding anything when we have seminaries, scholars, and centuries of academic research and thought devoted to studying the Bible and Christian theology with thousands of books on the subject.

    As someone who is not a member of any Abrahamic faith, I've always found it stupid that people target Christianity alone and never Judaism or Islam. Most complaints people have about the Bible are about the Old Testament, which is followed by Judaism too. Why does Christianity and Christianity alone get all the hate? Why is it being singled out?
    And that movie looks like it's going to be terrible. It could work if it was a comedy, but it's being played straight. We have an unlikeable protagonist who wants the fame Jesus got without actually caring about the lessons Jesus taught, cons people out of their money by pretending to create miracles, and was even slapped by John the Baptist for smoking at an important religious event. I don't get why the trailer didn't show whatever redeeming qualities the film's going to give him, assuming they give him any.
    Honestly, the Romans are perfectly in the right to want to expose him. He's a straight-up con artist. Though, you're right that the Romans wouldn't care about him since he doesn't threaten Roman interests. You're also right that it would make more sense to have the Pharisees come after him. And, in that case, they'd be absolutely right to do it.

    • @financialproblems9308
      @financialproblems9308 10 місяців тому

      Oh Islam definitely gets the same if not more hate ,even from Christians sometimes.
      Why Christianity seems to be the main target is because most of the western world was christian until recently. Whether it be from having trauma from being abused by religious figures or family members, believing science is the only logical explanation and merely putting the bible as fairy tales or just not believing in religion anymore, these new atheists have a grudge over how their old religion treated them and since most of these people seem to be from the western world it starts to make sense.

    • @thekita6774
      @thekita6774 3 місяці тому

      To answer your question about why Christianity is targeted, that's because Satan, who rules this world, hates Christ and those who follow him. Jesus christ told us that we would be persecuted just as they persecuted him for his name sake. It's the reason why you see people constantly mocking and bashing the faith and the people in it and not talking about anyone else. Check out "the friendly athiest." He's a great example of that.

    • @kertagin1
      @kertagin1 Місяць тому

      the Christians are targeted because time and events has removed the faiths teeth. there are very few Christians who will take the mockery violently. Islam has proven itself the barbarian and to an extent this protects them.
      Judaism is mocked as well and again the faithful have matured enough to be able to handle mockery as an adult
      all existing faiths deserve their own share of mockery but in the west the main target is Christianity because it is next door and no one is likely to fly into a rage about it.

    I suspect that this series will be outright heresy, and Clarence will be accepted as a prophet/the messiah, but hidden from history because he's black.
    I'm often a LOUSY Christian, and it's blatant that this is a self insert fanfic designed to tear down the Bible's true meaning, whether the creators realize it or not.
    Also, the Bible speaks directly against multiple things seen in the trailer:
    The fame seeking is one.
    "Thou shalt not test the Lord the God." by walking on water on command is another.
    I suspect Life of Brian is more respectful of The Bible/God... and that's a rather disrespectful movie in the first place.
    And why is it bad?
    because people who don't know better will believe it.

    To be fair, if they were gonna reveal How it is going to end one may have less of an incentive to watch the movie.
    But yeah, this seems like "Mattäus 24,24 - The Movie"
    "For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect."
    But I shall still choose Mercy over Justice and believe that they simply wanted to just make a comedy and failed, rather than act out of malicious intend.
    And although I agree it get's tiresome how they seem to always pick on Christianity rather than other religion, it's also a fact, that in the Western World Christianity it the default religion that people know. Relativly few people would care about a parody (?) of other religions. And so far there has not been a Christian "Charlie Hebdo". Other than Bush's Gulf war.

      That is COMPLETE nonsense. The whole POINT of the Jews was that they DIDN’T intermarry. It didn’t matter how many times they were conquered (not counting their time in Egypt, they were conquered by the Assyrians (northern tribes), Babylonians (southern tribes), Seleucids (see the Maccabean revolt; it’s where Hanukkah comes from), and Romans (technically it was more like being absorbed as a client state). They didn’t intermarry with anyone on a large scale (the whole reason the Samaritans were disliked is BECAUSE they did intermarry with other likely similarly colored peoples that had been dumped into the region by the Assyrians). Arguing that they would have been a rainbow of colors is arguing from ignorance. Even if they started out as a mix of hues, they would have, intermarrying amongst only themselves with few exceptions, eventually averaged out to a very limited band of skin coloration.

    • @Equilibrium86
      @Equilibrium86 3 місяці тому

      @@John-fk2ky not so, they did intermarry plenty & substantially. i don't have alot of patience to do the entire break down of how they biblically and historically intermarried. However, the hebrew or jewish people did marry many groups that were not from originally from the house of abraham Issac or Jacob lineage. Many either born into the camp or claimed jews either by faith (seeing how many outsiders sojourn with and accepted the circumcision, torah and belief through out many events in the bible). Some were even force converts like in king herods time. But way before that many began interbreeding since the community accepted foreigners. Abraham was a hebrew who believed God so any one in his camp was born was considered hebrew by bloodline. But Abraham had servents thats was given to him that were hebrew by affiliation and participated in the circumcision and began interbreed within his House or community, they are hebrew. This happened repeatedly in the bible. Little later down the line after the laws were given for forbidding certain groups, they still intermarried with these certain groups that God commanded them not to link with. Plus it was well known that many men married foreigners wives and had servents from other nations. Plus David and Solomon and many other people had wives especially Solomon with many women. Alot of them were from various places around Africa. But any case to assume that Jesus was olive skin or white is a popular assumption and not a fact. When it's a mélange. We actually have more biblical descriptions of Jesus fitting a darker complection more than assumption of olive skin. Even if we take certain elements of evolution your skin is a adaptive to an environment and if they been an hot region for a while that dna is recorded and passed down your pigment is result to change in the climate to be better suited. I'm sure Joseph and Mary was suited for the environment of there time. They didn't have AC or even equipment to keep them cool like we do today. Even Greeks had a very mixed groups of citizens and Greeks back then had complexities of various ppl whose melon at minimum was pushing to a tan. If anything I would assume a sizeable amount of Greeks had olive skin. The world is very colorful. Interesting that skin a subtractive element which mean darker tones represent many pigments like paint or mixing clay. It would make sense also that Jesus was darker as a representation of all creation, which personally believed to be true.

      And as for the other portion of your argument? I do take issue with historical movies that white wash...but that's not the topic of this video. When a movie or show is released that white washed a group of people, I will criticize it too...but that's not what's happening here. The Ten Commandments used a LOT of local Arabs as extras and used what actors they had at the time. The Passion of the Christ was in fact criticized for its casting choices. However, the two Biblical films did something that this movie does not: depict the events of the Bible with some level of accuracy.
      Also, trailers are SUPPOSED to tell you what a movie is about, to convince you to go see it. This trailer gave the impression that the movie is a mixture of stupidity and blasphemy. If that is 100% inaccurate, go yell at the people who made the trailer. If it’s not, shut up.

    • @RavenKnightYT
      @RavenKnightYT  6 місяців тому +4

      Oh thank you for asking. Here, I'll help.
      In Revelations 1:14-15 it says "The hair of His head was white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes were like a blazing fire. His feet were like polished bronze refined in a furnace, and His voice was like the roar of many waters."
      Now the first thing to note is it says his hair was white like wool. All this proves is his hair is white. And there are people of various races that can meet that description. And it says he feet were like polished bronze. Now, I would highly recommend google imagine polished bronze, and you'll see it's a gold like color.
      But let's leave all that alone and look at the rest of the descriptors: Where it says "eyes like a blazing fire,' and 'his voice was like the roar of many waters.' I don't know any demographics that meet those descriptions. This is because this is not representative of Jesus in a human form but rather a divine form, which does not know demographics. A lot of the book of Revelation is simile and metaphor. We cannot know Jesus's ethnicity from Revelation alone.
      HOWEVER, we can guess at the Jewish peoples demographic description from other verses in the Bible:
      Song of Solomon 7:4 "Your neck is like a tower of ivory. Your eyes are like the pools in the city of Heshbon, near the gate of that great city.Your nose is as lovely as the tower of Lebanon that stands guard at Damascus."
      The important portion here is the male speaker describing his female lover as having a neck like an ivory tower. Ivory is often described as a fair or lighter complexion than what is typical of the demographic of the African nations.
      Psalm 45:2 "Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever."
      This verse is often thought to be referring to Jesus himself, though we can't be sure. However, it describes the person as 'fairer than the children of men,' this implies a fairness in complexion.
      Now granted, both Song of Solomon and Psalms use analogies and metaphors like Revelation does, but what this proves is that we can't be 100% sure of Jesus's demographic based on any specific verses. However, based on Roman texts and history of the Jews at the time of the first century, we can guess that the Jewish people were likely Lebanese, who were often olive or slightly tanned in skin tone. A good example would likely be the way he is depicted in The Chosen.
      And if you read this far, I'm very impressed. Haha! I know, it's a very difficult subject to touch on. But something to keep in mind is that mortal demographics that we have today (white, black, hispanic, asian etc.) are all earthly labels and criteria we have created. They have no meaning to God, which is why they are never referenced specifically in the Bible. While I will admit that I can't know Jesus's true ethnicity when he was in a mortal form, I highly doubt it was of the African demographic or the Caucasian demographic. Likely more along the lines of a Middle Eastern persuasion. But at the end of the day, it doesn't matter.

    • @MideXIII
      @MideXIII 6 місяців тому

      You’ve praised other depictions of Jesus as Caucasian in movies like passion of the Christ and Jesus of Nazareth after stating that you’re aware that Jesus was very likely not white, but you come across a little more upset at his depiction in this movie.
      Honestly, despite your religious rhetoric you seem like just another person who is upset at so called race swapping for mostly fictional characters.
      The movie is clearly fiction and your ire at a trailer for a movie you had not yet seen does not seem genuine. “John the Baptist is described as unkempt “ when David Oyelowo is clearly not keeping a well groomed beard and isn’t even called John the Baptist.

      @@MideXIII
      So firstly, when I praise the depictions of Jesus in The Passion of the Christ or Jesus of Nazareth, I was referring not to their skin tone but to the motivation of the film. In those films, the motivation was glorifying Jesus and his message. I never said that they were properly shown as the proper race of Jesus. You assume I'm okay with it, but I'm not. I would also say that Jesus is not white, but when I praised those depictions, race was not a factor. You'll note that I only brought up race in the beginning and ending of the video...there was far more to this video than just that argument. So let's be fair here. On that note, I also praised the portrayal of Jesus in The Chosen, but I didn't mention his race there, even though his race there is far more accurate. So...sorry.
      You say 'despite my religious rhetoric,' but that was the crux of the video...I did not spend a great deal of time on the race aspect...I talked at length about VARIOUS other things...you seem to just be handwaving those away to sell your case, and that's very disingenuous.
      You bring up the John the Baptist point...except...he actually is John the Baptist in the movie. I checked IMDB and he is playing John the Baptist. Here's a link to prove it: www.imdb.com/title/tt22866358/
      Now, as for the 'unkempt' portion. The Bible describes John like 'a man of the wild,' and an untrimmed beard does not equal 'a man of the wild.' But again...you're fixating on a very small portion of the video...what about the rest of the 'religious rhetoric' you're choosing to overlook?
      And finally, with respect, I don't believe you. If I came out and said 'I think this movie is bad because it portrays black people in the time of Jesus, and that's all,' I think you'd call me a racist anyway because that's all that matters to you. You yourself admitted you aren't concerned about my 'religious rhetoric,' and you (like so many others) fixate on the race point, because it's not about the religion to you...it's not about the message of Jesus or the blaspheme on display...it's about seeing your race sensationalized in a Biblical movie, and so long as you have that, you're happy. Anyone who dares to criticize the movie, right or wrong, religious or not, must be racist to some degree.
      Friend, I am going to give you a lovely video from "What Do You Meme" who breaks down the full blaspheme and danger of this movie completely: ua-cam.com/video/fVz_wuuqBNE/v-deo.html
      Now, if you can get past his 'religious rhetoric,' you might actually begin to see the arguments being made against this movie that have nothing to do with race...
      But thank you for your comment all the same.

    • @MideXIII
      @MideXIII 6 місяців тому

      I, and a lot of people in your comments are focused on race because it’s laced through out the entirety of your video. You go as far to speak on black peoples’ behalf at the end of the video. You can’t blame people who think your criticism truly lies in the race of the characters when you are a dissecting a trailer of a fictional character, that is not even Jesus Christ. Frankly your basis for the entire video is flawed. You hadn’t watched the movie and had no idea how it would be handled. No one likes race swapping, and it is criticized by the majority when it is warranted. This is a fictional take of a character in the time of Jesus. I don’t believe this is one of those times.

    • @RavenKnightYT
      @RavenKnightYT  6 місяців тому +2

      Let me be clear as day: I made this video not just because of race swapping the people of the Bible, including Jesus, but also because of the Biblically inaccurate and blasphemous takes the movies has, as well as the very inappropriate motivations of the director and Jay Z. If you don't like MY take, then again, I encourage you to watch the video I sent you who breaks it down even better than I did and explains the hidden agenda and blasphemy involved in this movie (and not only does he barely bring up race, but What Do You Meme is a black man himself).
      You yourself KNOW that I was not JUST talking about race throughout this video, as you told me to stop hiding behind 'religious rhetoric.'
      I criticized this trailer for MANY things, not just race. You know this to be true, or you're being willfully ignorant to that fact. Like the scene when the Romans demanded Clarence walked on water. Race was not mentioned. The scene when Clarence said 'knowledge is stronger than beliefe,' race was not brought up. The obvious false miracles, race was not brought up, so please do not insult your intelligence or mine by pretending like that's my only criticism.
      You're right, I didn't watch the movie, but what is the purpose of a trailer if not to introduce us to a movie and engage us? A trailer hints at the quality and content of a movie...we're MEANT to judge a movie based on the trailer...so saying 'you haven't seen the movie yet,' is a poor argument, because I don't need to see the movie to draw conclusions from a trailer alone. But, leaving that aside, looking at the box number results for the movie, and several online reviews? I can draw a very good conclusion...in fact I sent you a review.
      You say that nobody likes race swapping...but then you add on a conditional: "...it is criticized by the majority when it is warranted." Is it really? Well then wouldn't this be a fine place to do it? After all, you have not stated that my claim was false...you seem aware that the Jews of Jesus's day were not African black...and your primary defense is that it's a fictional story. So...if fiction is the only qualifier to allow for race swapping, then surely race swapping is acceptable as long as the story told is fictional...well...I hope you're ready for the backlash of that criteria. It means that various fictional stories and movies can now easily race swap characters without consequences. So long as that's okay on your end, then I'll accept that criticism.
      You end by saying "This is a fictional character told in the time of Jesus." Yes, but Jesus, Thomas, Judas, John the Baptist, Mary, and other real historical individuals from Jesus's day are in it, and they are also race swapped. They are not fictional characters...so your argument is flawed.

    As a cheerful heretic, this is just so...boring. Maybe it's because I come about my own views from a different direction and just wants to be left alone, I don't get mocking the believers like this. It's trying so hard yet trying so little. It's easy to mock Christianity and then saying money please, and it pays, but eventually it won't. Eventually the same joke told a thousand times won't bring in the edgy teenage atheists and muslims. And they won't ever bring in the heretics like me because I find the one sided nonsense toothless. Ok, you lack the courage to mock Allah because you'd die (yet claim Christians are the most dangerous religious group...somehow). Fine, what about the Zoastrians? ...No? You have nothing? What about the atheists? You're...part of them so no go there. Jewish people? You...only want to protest them and wish them death in those protests. Going to make fun of any other religion? Not going to do that?
    That's ultimately my problem with all that. The heresy isn't earned fairly. It's not because of feelings of beetrayal like mine. It's not looking at injustice and being soured, it's not for any reason except pure, weak greed. It's in a place of pure cowardice and banal desire for cash. You can say I'm no better, and I would likely agree, but at the end of the day, I don't wave a banner in your face and then whine if you reject me.

      @@RavenKnightYT it's not bad writing at all. You just don't have the cultural competence to understand what it is you watched. And that's ok. It's also okay not to like a film for whatever reason you choose. But have real reasons and communicate them effectively. You can dislike the periodical inaccuracies. You can dislike a particular actor's performance. You can disagree with the premise, or themes of the film. But to just say "bad writing" is an ineffectual trope, with no real meaning other than I don't have the words to explain what I don't like about the script, or story. Like me for instance, I say the film is brilliant. I can back up that statement by saying that I think the film is wonderfully acted, that its main character is sympathetic and easy to identify with. I can say that I loved the cinematography and felt immersed in the period because of the location, set design, and wardrobe. I can say that one of the underlying themes of the film, the fact that activities and issues we think of as 'modern' are thousands of years old, resonated with me deeply... Of course, I could nitpick. And ask questions that need no answer to poke holes in film (how'd the Romans know of Jesus walking on water, as if an apostle wasn't an informant, a small logical leap ) or worse, ask questions that the film literally answers. Like yours about the pharasees. They were right there, staring down from on high, as Clarence was persecuted. But all that to say, I can tell you why I like the film. Without relying on vague phrasing, dog whistles, or tropes. Because I understood what I was watching. And thoroughly enjoyed it. Peace and blessings.

      @RavenKnightYT  5 місяців тому +6

      So just to be clear: Your first comment said "It's fiction bro..." which implies that your issue with my video is that I'm criticizing a fictional story. I responded pointing out the obvious problem: That fiction is not free from criticism when it's bad.
      Realizing that your first comment didn't go over well, you decide to change tactics by first saying I lack the cultural competence to understand what I'm watching...which I find humorous by the way. What culture am I not competent in? I've been a long time student and scholar on Biblical and Roman history...so you must mean black culture, right? Cute. But you are aware there are black students of history and the Bible who didn't like the movie either right? I'll provide a link to one of them if you like.
      You follow up by saying I'm free to like or dislike whatever I want for whatever reason I want. Thank you for your permission, but I did not require it. You even lay out things I'm free not to like...many of those things are ones I brought up in the video...which I notice you aren't harping on me on. So...what was I wrong about? As a matter of fact, throughout the whole video, I don't think I once brought up the writing quality. I was addressing the Biblical and Historical inaccuracies. You say it's wrong of me to accuse the film of bad writing because it means I don't have words to say to describe what's wrong with the story. Well...that's not true, is it? I laid out a lot of problems with the story and film in the video. They were about the historical and theological accuracy of the film as displayed in the trailer. In fact, if we want to talk about lazy responses: Your first comment to me was "It's fiction, bro..." that's a prime example of what you're accusing me of. :)
      Next you lay out all the things you think are great about the film by saying:
      *I say the film is brilliant. I can back up that statement by saying that I think the film is wonderfully acted, that its main character is sympathetic and easy to identify with. I can say that I loved the cinematography and felt immersed in the period because of the location, set design, and wardrobe. I can say that one of the underlying themes of the film, the fact that activities and issues we think of as 'modern' are thousands of years old, resonated with me deeply...*
      You'll note that most of your defenses of the film come down to your personal takes. How you love the cinematography and were immersed in the period and you resonated with the theme. But that's YOUR take...not the objective quality of the film.
      You then go after me for nitpicking the historical issues. Dude...that's the objective quality. I'm sorry that historical criticism offended you. You try to use the example that an apostle could have told the Romans. This is not historically sound as the apostles had no reason to tell the Romans, and the story of Jesus walking on water was not revealed in the gospels until after Jesus's death...and seeing as Jesus is alive in the film, this would not have been the case. I would say you don't have the historical competence to understand what you're criticizing.
      I'm glad you liked what you were watching and you enjoyed it...but weren't you the one who started with: "It's fiction, bro...?" So why do you care? It's just fiction 'bro.' Why get upset? If you disagree with my take, then disagree. Why get so upset? Why be so mad? You like the film? Great. I never said you couldn't like it. But I don't like it. I laid out my reasons. You're the one who tried to defend it with a lazy 'it's just fiction, bro,' response. So before you go telling me I'm lazy for attacking it's writing, note your own hypocrisy 'bro.'
      Peace and blessings.
