The video essay you made on Lord Tepés III Dracula of Wallachia, was the stuff of legendary repute. It’s a shame many people don’t actually listen to it, and instead just look at the demonizations of the Ottomans and King Matthias as gospel.
Yup...already got a comment on this video that meets that description. XD I would love it if people understood the real Vlad and not the one we demonize today.
@@RavenKnightYTabsolutely, I agree! I much respect the sole defender of the Christian Kingdom of Wallachia, even when no one wanted to help him, and rather would use him as a political pawn.
@nightYT Forgive me if I question anything about Vlad's actions; I'm just a bit curious about it, given how I do love some Castlevania or even the material that inspired it, as well as vice versa... my only concern about this is how religious people feel about him drinking blood (even human blood) would be downright immortal... but I had to look it up first before I ask (or even get to the part where they mention it, if they did), and it turns out Vlad *doesn't* drink blood; it's likely a myth invented by people who feared Vlad for how much of a killer he is, even more so when they tie Bram Stoker's Dracula to the Impaler. So, okay, you're in the clear on that one myth; so, I'm gonna watch the video, and come back to you after watching it, if I have any questions about him. (after the video) Okay, I actually have TWO questions: 1. If Samson taught me anything, it's that he's suppose to follow a code that God gave him, which would be to not drink wine, not eat unclean food, and not get a hair cut. Does Dracula follow a similar code of some kind? 2. Does the Bible or God say anything about Dragons? I am very puzzled about what you meant about Devils hating Dragons, it sounded as if Dragons are wonderous creatures compared to what people say about them being monsters and how people were equating them to Satan's minions.
@@robbiewalker2831 I am legitimately confused by your first question. That code you described was for Nazarites, people who were supposed to be dedicated solely to God. Why would Vlad be following a code similar to that instead of the general rules expected of someone claiming to follow Christianity?
He still is viewed as a hero in Romania to this day , nothing not the communists, not the nazis , nobody could take that from us , nobody can change that in our minds , much less the western "historians" Also the "historian" should meet Vlad Tepes
It's funny that Vlad was condemned for everything he did, but the neighboring leaders who did worse are ignored. EDIT: Hollywood and scholars have been ignoring things like the Janissaries' crimes and worse for a long time.
uhhh no they have not been ignoring that bruh, ottomans are already hated by everyone today. demonizing people of the past is a pretty normal thing today. yknow the whole middle ages were ruthless thing.
He joins Napoleon being short, Cleopatra being a massive whore, and 300 Spartans being the only ones at Thermopylae in "propaganda so effective, we still believe it today."
Vlad's methods were brutal but necessary given the time period. It's the medieval equivalent of escalation, best summed up with a quote from The Untouchables: They put one of yours in the hospital, you put one of theirs in the morgue.
"It'd no mere torture. You think that I'm cruel for only cruelty's sake. But I see through this to its end. For the battle to be over, I must break his will to continue fighting."
I've gotta say I like the part where he killed a bunch of [warrior] monks [that were working as outright bandits (or more charitably, mercenaries/freebooters) and trying to play kingmaker with Japan, causing untold suffering in the process]. Funniest part is Nobunaga himself seemed to actually find his contemporary demonization hilarious. Enough so that he kinda just took the "demon king" epithet and ran with it in a complete chad move.
I think that Vlad was evil, just as every competent ruler at the time had to be. He was handed a really shitty hand from life, and I think he turned out surprisingly alright for how bad he had it. He was a monster, but in a world of monsters.
*Slow clap* this is perhaps one of the best refutations I have come across for the slander that one of the greatest heroes of history. Well done, I hope as time goes on we can lift the black stain off of the Prince's name and show that the real Son of the Dragon was a hero.
Another great response video. I’ve done my own research on Vlad Dracula and it’s all pretty interesting. And you’re right, we shouldn’t really demonise Vlad Dracula because his motives were noble from the Romanian’s point of view. His methods and actions however, were certainly barbaric, interesting and creative, but still barbaric. Again, not trying to demonise him, but I’m not sympathising with him either. This, to me, brings up a very deep discussion: which is more relevant and justifiable? The motive or the action? Some say actions speak louder than words, ie the Joker, but then you have the people who say the motives outshine almost every possible action done, ie MCU Thanos. In the case Vlad Dracula, was his actions (from the POV of the time period and context of his life) more justifiable or would his motives be the more justifiable cause?
Calling *_Vlad Tepes Dracula_* the true face of evil, is like calling *_Oda Kazusanosuke Saburou Taira-no-Ason Nobunaga_* (tldr; Oda Nobunaga) a demon king. Both are woefully lacking in context. That said, Raven, please make a video essay about our boy, the *_Dai-Roku-Ten Maou_* (The Great Demon King of Sixth Heaven).
All i see... Vald slightly based. In all seriousness: Vlad is such a intresying figure to me as everyone in romania (to my knowledge) loves Vlad, seeing him as a national hero. This is all the propaganda has damned the legacy of him, though it is great to see the debunking of the slander. Also Vlad is a pretty great name.
3:03 "Native Romanians became inferior in their own country". As a "Romanian" of Vlach descent, bearing Vlad's name I cannot begin to describe how insulting and inaccurate that is. The Saxons weren't all rich lords, most were peasants. Conversely not all "Romanians", a concept that didn't exist at the time as the peoples east of the carpathian mountains, predominantly the principalities of Moldova and Wallachia referred to themselves as Vlachs, and were a mixture of Dacians and Slavs primarily Bulgars and Rus, or the result of a few centuries of intermarriage. The Concept of "Romanian" came about when the three smaller states of Wallachia, Moldova, and Transylvania decided to unite and form a new country with it's own come, latinized language under the then premise that we were the heirs to Rome, in 1871, over 400 years after Vlad III. This was done because in order to beat the ottomans we needed allies and the German king wanted to get west on board with our independence, and so far only the Russians and the Tsar had come to our aid. The idea was also to restore Romania to the size it was during the time of Decebal during the Roman empire. As for Romanians being peasants, yeah dude , literally everyone not born into a wealthy or noble family was at some point. Thing is , by the 15th century the middle class had started to slowly emerge and not everyone was dirt poor and stupid. What it boils down to is this notion among some western "academics" that we filthy easterners are too stupid and poor to do anything worthwhile so we totally must need the superior westerners, in this case Saxons, to save us. This is incredibly insulting considering that those same westerners would constantly violate treaties they brought about, would steal from us, and would constantly betray us, despite us being the only thing between the advancing Ottomans who at the time were at the xenith of their power, and their precious little city state. While on the topic of city states, Wallachia and Moldova were far larger than any single city or county. Brasov wasnt even a city state, it was a town at the base of the Carpathian mountains that serve as a regional HQ for the Hungarian governor and as a garrison for their occupation forces. So yeah Vlad who sought Wallachian independence would naturally be at odds with them as they sought to vassalize Vlad. In sort Nutty History is a terribly incompetent historian as to most Romanians, especially in the county of Dambovita , where Vlad's capital was located, is basically common knowledge. Also, say what you will, but it is said that in Dracula's reign, you could leave bag full of money on the street and no one would steal it for fear of justice.

I mean....I gotta give Nutty History credit. At least they pronounced the name of Brașov right. Because that's about the only thing that they got right.
I would like to preface Count Dracula was not inspired by Vlad Tepes. Vlad is not the only warlord to be known as Dracula. Far from it actually. Bram Stoker's notes never once mention Vlad. In fact, Dracula was going to be known as Count Whampire. Yes. Whampire. Stoker only changed it after discovering the name Dracula, and one of it's translations to English is Son of the Devil, which he felt fit the Vampire Count better than Whampire.
Can you do one about Genghis Khan? I heard he had similar experience with Vlad, like being enslaved by the ruling muslim kingdom or something during his childhood.
