I know i shouldn't but i keep a male leopard and a female hermann's together. The size difference isn't enough for there to be bullying, and when my Hermann's tortoise was gone for a couple months, i had to pull my leopard out of his hide every morning just to feed him. I don't know if tortoise depression is possible, but if so he had it. They both perked up a lot when they met each other again, they are best friends

Haha I remember when there was grass in their yard! great video man I want to get a tortoise next but I live in NY and I want to wait until I move down to hopefully south Carolina so I can have a outdoor enclosure for them for most of the year.

My tortoise hatchling will only drink her bath water even though she has a water dish in her enclosure. Her bath water is super warm and she will actually come running to her bathtub to be put in when she sees it. I soak her everyday and she really seems to enjoy it.
how often do you feed larger tortoises if there is no grass.

I love watching your shows. I have a pond wit 5 red eared turtles and ond baby red eared inside in a 10 gallon. She is too small to put in the pond. And i also have a tortis She is beautiful. I have had her 2 years now. She just came out of her second hibernation. I have noticed a small sore on her cheek how do i medicate it. I live in Fresno California.

What Vines/Climbing plants are SAFE for Tortoise enclosures?
So I have a question for ya. I'm looking at getting a leopard tortoise. However, as I watch some videos on them, I can't help but notice that pyramid-like formation on their shell. As Sulcata tortoise owner, I am militant and very proud of my tortoise's perfectly smooth shell. My little Sulcata buddy gets his UVA UVB bulbs replaced every 6 months, despite the label on the bulb saying replace every 12 months. Do leopard tortoises naturally have that pyramiding on their shell. Or should they have a naturally smooth rounded shell? I'm looking at getting an African Giant Leopard Tortoise. So when reading this, can you speak to the different kinds of leopard tortoises? Thank you so much.
I want to get a tortoise. My wife has had one of these specific breeds before. The local pet shop though has both these and redfoot.
For a first time owner, would you recommend these? Or a redfoot?

I live in the uk met a beautiful baby leopard at the pet shop and its run up to me and my mum twice they say even tho it's cold they make great indoor pets and you just need UVB lighting and a heat lamp to keep them good and warm. Never owned one before and will do much more research I am worried about them temp but they are sold Here with all the equipment so they must be ok ? I just feel like this little dude has chosen us as a home

If you know what you're doing rescue is best... If your relatively new I'd suggest a breeder be chase they can help you learn about everything you need to know

Ive got a baby one and I’m from the uk.. we have lighting indoors for her and let her out all day because it’s ridiculously hot here but when it cools down I’d like to know exact heats when to use the lights when to not use them but I’m finding it hard to get that information

Hope to one day have and outdoor leopard tortoise. I live in Houston Texas and it is rather hot and humid with three digit summers. The plan was to also have a killifish pond about 4x6 foot length/width 4-6 feet deep. Would it be good to have the pond tortoise accessible?

I have a baby leopard tortoise named Gem. I cannot get her to eat grass and she only likes cactus once in a while. she mostly eats spring mix salad sprinkled with the tortoise chow pellets (wet). She loves the young shoots off of her aloe plant and I use that as a special treat during and after bath time. How can I get her to eat grass? I bought special seeds from zoo med to grow and she wont touch it other than to walk on it. Do I need to hold off feeding for a day to make her hungry enough to eat the grass/clover/dandy lion mixture?
Aloe vera is good for these tortoises, so i've heard. Is the x Alworthia 'Black Gem' ok for them to eat? it is a bigeneric hybrid between Aloe speciosa and Haworthia cymbiformis.
I lived in the Northeast. I'm looking at getting a leopard tortoise. However, I am getting so many mixed answers on how big these guys get and how big an enclosure should be if kept indoors. Some lady ib a Leopard Tortoise facebook page said that they get almost as big as Sulcatas. then saying they need a 12x12 enclosure. Can you clear this up for me? Other websites say they don't get more than 30 lbs and 12" - 16"
I know this video is a little old but is it possible to keep them together with other species as babys until they outgrow there first enclosure then be separated?

They continue growing even after they are adults, but they are considered adults when they are 5 years old

I don't have de chance that you have , and my leopard tortoise live in captivity and terrarium. But I want to ask you , how many time give you to eat at your LT . Mine don't want to eat dry gras or fruit or special food of zoo med . They just like salade , carots and kalanchoe, hybiscus flowers and leaf .

I have a baby sulcata about 8 months old and Ive had it for about 5 months and it acts very very very shy even when i go to feed it. if I am anywhere near the cage he hides and all the other baby sulcatas are personable and get used to their owners especially around feeding time. do you have any tips to help him be more used to me?

I always wanted a leopard tortoise but they were unavailable here in Scotland at the time so I had to settle for a little Russian. Are the leopard much bigger than the Russian and is a vivarium good for them here in Scotland?

Anyone can answer me here .... kenan! I'm wanting a tortoise, have for a while but I just havent dove in yet to get one. I am totally unfamiliar, never met anyone with one. I want to make sure I care for it correctly... so I havent gotten one yet. I live in maine... freezing cold winters, humid summers.... I dont have too much room, so cant go for anything too big. I was thi king about a red foot but also debated a leopard.... or hermanns... or russian. But would prefer red foot or leopard! Anyone have any opinions? Thanks!

Radiated tortoises will do almost the same thing. Read that while with the sulcata and the aldabra you'll end up with almost perfect tortoise turf, leopards and radiated will exterminate the grass XD

I live in Houston & we dont have much of a winter but some days do get down there. The coldest it could ever get is the 20's on special days but on average its in the 50's most of the winter. If I get a medium-large tortoise and keep it outdoors what should I do during the winter?
Some tortoises will hibernate during the winter although leopards tortoises do not. You either set up a room with a tortoise table or you can set one up in the garage with heat and uv lamps. They need a bit of space.

How big will the typical leopard tortoise get? Thinking of getting one for myself, but don't have alot of room for a big enclosure
In the end you will need a 3 by 3 foot cage
They get to around 12-18 inches. It is best to keep them in at least 5ft by 6ft if you are getting an adult. If I were you I would go to a website called the Tortoise Forum. There is a lot of good information there and that is where I got a lot of the information I needed to care for my tortoise. I reccomend you get your tortoise from Tortoise Supply. They are good breeders and will ship your tortoise safely to you.

Saw people selling these on Craigslist $180 for one 3-4 inch babies. I wanted to get 2
NO NEVER BUY FROM CRAIGSLIST!!!!!!! They are probably in bad health! Also if the people are stupid enough or just don't care about the well being of the animal they are going to be in bad health also it's going against Craigslist rules. You aren't allowed to sell animals just charge a very small reforming fee and it might not even be real and you might get yourself hurt or even killed
I bought mine off of craigslist as a hatching three years ago he's never been sick.
