My friend has a couple of redfoots and they are so sweet. They walk right up to you and appreciate some pets on the head and between the scutes. When petting between the scutes they wiggle their butt :D
Thank you for this video. I just got two red footed tortoises from a friend who bought them from a pet store and didn’t know how to care for them. After a week of her having them they weren’t eating. It’s fall here in Massachusetts and it’s to cool outside for them. I put them in a much bigger tank, with proper heat lamps and started feeding them that tortoises diet and they love it. They also eat kale & strawberries. I named them Gomez & Morticia 🐢
Hey Kenan, I just wrote a paper on sulcata Tortoises and it is all thanks to you, my teacher loved it and i told her i got ALL my info from your videos, mostly because I don't really trust anyone with tortoise knowledge but you. You are super awesome!
You mentioned that the Red Foot Tortoise was vegetarian. I’m fairly certain that they are omnivorous. I’ve had my male for twenty-three years. He does enjoy red worms, potato bugs and other soft and squishy bugs I can forage. He doesn’t get that all the time, but I do make sure to supplement as often as I can. The Mazuri Tortoise diet does mention in their ingredients for the Red Foot that they are in fact an omnivorous tortoise. I love your passion, and I’m truly not trying to be a know it all. But I’ve lived a very long time with Buster and I feel he’s quite content.
My brothers teacher had two males as class pets, they were a delight to have over and loved to roam around in the backyard! I would love to get one of these little guys someday when I’m older :)
Just messaged you on facebook! Was given a red foot unexpectedly I watched this more than 3 times but I need alittle more personal tips in this situation
I love my red footed tortoises they are so funny and out going. I'm in Colorado so they stay in the house in the winter but they love summer time they hiss at me when I have to take them in on cold nights.
My parents re-homed my redfoot tortoise yesterday and I'm bawling my eyes out. We only had her for about 6 months but I get connected to animals so easily I miss her so much😭❤️ love you Dotty I hope you have a better life in your new home
I love animals I have bought 2 hatchlings red foot tortoises love them very much and I have 2 yellow belly red ear slider 1 common musk and 1 eastern box turtle I inspire me I watch ur videos everyday
I love your videos. Friend is getting quite the little refuge. They are spoils and get amazing care. Addicting to be around and so cute. Sociable hogs for sure. I can’t wait till he has babies. Natures treasure.
I commented on a diff video of yours asking you to make a video like this..... and then I found this... yay! You are who I trust for tortoise care. I know theres lots of ppl put there with tortoises and theres are all healthy n happy but I can see you and your results, so I prefer to go by what you say!
I have 3 redfoots, 2 that we rescued yesterday. They are in terrible condition and bc the first tort we have is a juvenile i wanted to see how you care for the adults. Thank you Kenan for this information! It is much appreciated
THANKS FOR THE INFOR!! I HAVE A REDFOOT THAT IS 6 YEARS OLD AND IS ABOUT 15 LBS. !! HER NAME IS DAISY MAY AND SHE EATS RIGHT OUT OF OUR HANDS! SHE IS PART OF OUR FAMILY AND I WOULD TELL ANYONE TO GET ONE THEY MAKE GREAT FAMILY MEMBERS!! BUT REMEMBER THEY ARE LIKE HAVING A 2 YEAR OLD CHILD AT LEAST MINE IS!! BUT WE LOVE HER JUST LIKE SHE IS OUR CHILD!! HOPE TO SEE MORE ABOUT TORTOISES!! KEEP SAVING THE PLANET ONE ANIMAL AT A TIME!!! #ResistTheGreedAndCorruption #WeHaveTheNumbers
Awww how cute! I love tortoise! I just want to say a big thank you Kenan for teaching me how to care for tortoises. I'm a big fan for these! I have learned so much from watching your videos. Now I know what to do/expected for these little babies to adults. I've had a Russian and a Africa tortoise years ago, but idk how to care for them.. so they didn't last.. now I know!! Thank you again Kenan your the best!!! 🙂🙂👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I was planning on buying a Hatchling but Found a women that needed to get rid of hers.. about 2 to 3 yrs old. Picking up Saturday.. my enclosure was designed for very young so I had to modify, added cat grass in groups. Stones, everything.. but my 55 gallon open air rubbermaid is awesome.. live plants that will be gone(LOL) in a week once the Red Foot gets in.. I was planning on growing in enclosure but... 3 yr old eats a ton..I know I will need an upgrade next yr.. but its large...probably build my next enclosure, not wood of any kind but something??? its fun to get ready...
I love your videos! Something the internet is lacking a lot of is building an indoor enclosure for ADULT SIZE red foots. Many videos cover how to build an outdoor enclosure almost nothing can be found on how the common red foot tortoise owner can build a full size indoor enclosure. I have one cherry head rescue that a local PetCo was going to euthanize because they couldn't solve the shell rot problem (Chlorhexidine Antiseptic works like a charm 100% of the time for me) and one red foot tortoise. Can you PLEASE make a video on this?
Where can I get some cuttings from the Opuntia cactus that you feed your tortoises? I have a Sulcata, a Redfoot, and a Hermann’s tortoise. I live in Texas and only have spineless prickly pear. They only like the tunas. I’d be glad to pay for them. Love your videos!!
Hello Kenan. From the Dominican Republi., thank you for the video. What kind of food are you giving to the tortoises in the video? and where can I buy it.? Thank you. Antonio
Love you video on the Red Footed Tortoise. There are so many places to buy one so who do you suggest I purchase one for..? I want a CB One, Those you have are out of this world in beauty......Your help is appreciated. Again, Great Video. Benny
What's the d ifferance between a red foot and yellow foot? Differant subspecies? Have a offer to adopt 2. Will keep looking for info vids. 30 years old.
Aloha kenan. How often do you feed the redfoots mazurri diet a week. My torts graze on grass and hibiscus all day but I wanted to give them a little extra. Just don’t want to over do it. Thanks
One of the koolest looking tortoises out there. Also probably the easiest to care for. Word of warning though... They diarrhea poop EVERYWHERE lol. Much more so than Greeks. And I'm not talking about Solid turds that you can just pick up with 2 fingers and toss into your neighbors yard... I'm talking about GOOOOOO. Nasty goo lol.
Love the videos man. Very informative. I've acquired a red foot who had a broken acute. It seems to have been peeled completely off. To my knowledge it's been like this for years and she appears to be happy and healthy. It's just unsettling that there's exposed bone there. Any feedback on how I might treat this issue the best? Thank you
They do need protein, but really only when they are young and developing. It's not necessary for the adults, and even when they are younger they should only be given occasional protein.
Hello Kenan, I appreciate your dedication and all the knowledge you share. I just acquired and adult trio of red footed and I am building a pen for them. Can you share how tall is the wooden barrier on perimeter of the enclosure of your adult red footed? It seems like about a foot. Thanks in advance.
Do you supply a heat lamp for your Marginated tortoises in the winter or if it reaches a certain temperature at night? I live in the Palm Springs, CA area where the lows are in the mid 30’s and summers can get to 120 degrees. I have been mixed information that I don’t need a heat source for a Marginated tortoise where I live. I would love to hear your thoughts. Thank you
Awesome video! i have a question where i live theres only stray cats, owls, hawks and vultures in open areas. So knowing that at what size its safe to let the tortoise living outside ?
hi kamp kenan, i know this is an old video but i just recently found your channel. im very interested in tortoises, i have a baby ouachita map turtle and i was just curious once the turtle is olderr is it possible to have a turtle and tortoises with? like a pond area and grass/dryer area all in one?
I didn’t know what breed to get because in Texas, the conditions are very rough. This tortoise sounds very adaptive so I’m finally gonna get a red foot
hey kanan i have a macleay river turtle who seems to have developed some type of skin fungus on the tips of one toe on each foot. Is there any type of treatment that you know of since you work with turtles and tortoises if so please let me know i can send pics to show you if needed
Kamp Kenan also can i treat the whole tank with salt because i have 2 turtle so should i seperate him and treat him and then treat the water so the other doesnt get it
hey kenan i did what you suggested i bout some salt to add to the water and i also bought a fungus killer for fish tanks about how long will it take to see results and is there anything elso i can do
We are trying to build an outdoor enclosure for our cherry head red footed tort- do they dig like sulcatas? We don’t want him to escape from the pin lol
My friend has a couple of redfoots and they are so sweet. They walk right up to you and appreciate some pets on the head and between the scutes. When petting between the scutes they wiggle their butt :D

I've seen one eat a baby mouse
Yes they are definitely omnivores

Our family has had a red foot cherry head for about 18 years - Bartelby
What do you do if you live in place like Texas where the weather is random and never very warm or stable for them
Im considering getting a couple of these since I live in fl. Do these burrow? Id prefer a tort that doesn't burrow, if there is such a thing.
can you talk about the different plants you use as shade for red foot tortoise tnx
Would red foots do good in Texas
I hope to get one in about a week... I'm going to a reptile expo, and I already have a place to keep him/her :)
Aloha kenan. How often do you feed the redfoots mazurri diet a week. My torts graze on grass and hibiscus all day but I wanted to give them a little extra. Just don’t want to over do it. Thanks

Can those zoo med enclosures keep things humid well?
One of the koolest looking tortoises out there. Also probably the easiest to care for.

Don't redfoots need protein? Do yours just eat bugs and whatever they find outside or do you give them any extra?
They do need protein, but really only when they are young and developing. It's not necessary for the adults, and even when they are younger they should only be given occasional protein.
Yeah mine eats pellets
They love Zupreem monkey biscuits as well

Your great
This is a very nice video, especially for me who just barely adopt a cherry head. I have a question, do we need to change the substrate/soil?
I use cat-litter. clean like for a cat.
What a the price range in the guys? This exactly the kind of tortoise i’m looking for!
About $100 for a hatching, just know there's a lot that goes into them, and they get big fast
My favorites!
