That's the beauty of Chico Buarque's poetry: even if you don't know portuguese, the storytelling is SO GOOD that you understand perfectly what he wants to communicate with the song.
Sugestion: listen to "Cálice"
@@andreacarreiro5436 cálice ( cup of wine) e cale-se ( shut up). The same way to pronouce. So a liric in a way. An another meaning as a liric for the dictators. Two meanings at the same song.
You really pay attention to the lyrics, I love that!!
I love great writing! And this is genius writing!
I also suggest any songs from Milton Nascimento, another brilliant mind in Brazilian music
Thanks for the recommendation.
Chico is the only lyricist whose lyrics are (in 90% of cases) ironic. And it's not just any irony. It's a sharp and deep irony
This is incredible, and heartbreaking. His songwriting and musicality are miraculous, and he writes with so much understanding of poverty. Whoof...
Amazing writing and very confronting lyrics.
Nice, Saeed!
I suggest listening other Chico Buarque songs like 'Geni e o Zepelin' (it talks about a transgender woman who is ostracized in her town. Note that it is a song written almost 50 years ago and could not be more modern).
'Pedaço de Mim' (a song about a mother's grief whose son was killed by the military dictatorship).
Also listen to 'Pedro Pedreiro,' 'João e Maria,' 'Caro Amigo,' 'Roda Viva,' 'Olho nos Olhos,' 'Cio da Terra.'
I also recommend other national singers, such as Milton Nascimento (the most Brazilian voice there is), Caetano Veloso, Ney Matogrosso (the man who literally inspired Kiss), Maria Bethânia, Gal Costa, Gilberto Gil.
Thanks so much for taking the time to share these. Hope that i can check some more out when i get back from vacation.
@@SaeedReacts. enjoy your time, man!!
Amazing song and very smart reaction. The final part is really touching, when she sees a picture of her son just dead, on the newspaper. Chico Buarque is a genious, and the best version of this song is Elza Soares' one.
great song, always gets to me, and good reaction too. I would recommend getting into Cartola, another great songwriter and lyricist from Brazil.
Thanks for watching and the recommendation.
You got it, sir! Chico is really a genius.
Incredible artist! Thanks for watching.
You're amazing, Saeed!
I always cry when I listen to any song by Chico Buarque, he has a gift for touching the soul (or the unconscious hahaha)! I recommend you check out the songs "Cálice," "Apesar de Você," and "João e Maria."
Your analyses is beautiful and righty, because your father was born in Paskistan and know about hungry and miserable
Thanks so much!
Definitely have seen struggle firsthand.
Have a great day !
Belo depoimento pessoal.
Brazilian music itself is always beautiful and soulful. The artist tells a sad reality that exists in many countries and is almost impossible to get out of it for a better future.
And yes, it's wise to never judge a person if you don't know the situation deeply , an the same in everything: it's easy to judge or write nonsense in social networks when you don't know the real truth and you only rely on fake news...
Very well said!
Not Portuguese music, but Brazilian music. Is the music from New York, "English"? C'mon!
@@Vrealita You are perfectly right. Thanks for your comment 🥀 !
A big hug, I’ve become a fan of yours because of your reaction and your ability to understand the message behind the lyrics and melodies! And the fact that you’re the son of an Afghan makes it even better, you’re not just a typical European used to the easy and smooth life, we’re in this together and only we know how difficult life can be!!!!
Thanks so much for the kind words. Big hug!
Your reaction is great, yes, the song is beautiful and sad, it shows us the cruel reality of the human situation in poverty and at the same time awakens compassion in us. How good it will be to live on Earth when social equality is established in society. It will be heaven on Earth, imagine, walking around without feeling fear or danger.
I hope humanity can get there one day.
"The" in Portuguese is A, As, O, Os
So the girl - a menina
The girls - as meninas
The boy - o menino
The boys - os meninos
Guri is a word used more in the south of the country
I don't know if you got it or not, but at the end, the boy was killed: all stanzas begins with "Chega"what means arrive - the last one is something like "arrives printed (in the news), high lights, portrait with blindfold and initials", the way dead under aged people are referred in news. The pictures in the video are pretty odd in this respect.
Oh! Chico is a genius! Meu Guri means "my boy". During Brazilian’s dictatorship he wrote some songs that were released even with all the censorship because it was so perfectly written that the censorship didn’t notice the critics being made on the songs
You probably figured it out but I’m Brazilian hahaha
I have checked out Construção and really loved it, so i wanted to explore some more.
Amazing artist!
@@SaeedReacts. I haven’t seen it yet, I actually did not see on my subscribed page but I’ll definitely check it out. Chico is a genius 💜
We have a lot of beautiful music here in Brazil 💜
Chico composed both for and about children. Another of the songs on the same theme that I believe you would like to know are "Pivete" from 1978, in 1981 came "Meu Guri" and 1984 brought "O Brejo Da Cruz". Thank you for this react!
My dear, from Brazil, allow me to explain a little about Chico Buarque. First, the video you reacted to: Construction. In addition to the social denunciation of the working conditions of construction workers, I need to mention the literary elegance where the end of each verse ends with a word whose intonation is proparoxytone. Only a person with a deep knowledge of the Portuguese language would make this poetic "construction".
As for this song, "my boy" is a social denunciation of the lack of formal education suffered and, to a certain extent, still suffers from the less privileged segments of society. The boy becomes a thief and his mother cannot imagine this. (by google tradutor)
Thanks for sharing this.
Algumas sugestões:
Cálice - Chico e Milton Nascimento
O bêbado e a equilibrista - Ellis Regina
Sozinho - Caetano Veloso
Thank you!
Also, at the end, the song implies her son was killed by the police. She mentions she does not understand what is happening and why people are making such a fuss about his photo on the news paper, also implying that she is illiterate and cannot read the headlines.
Thanks foe adding your thoughts!
Another GORGEOUS Brazilian song is: Se Deus me Ouvisse - Chitãozinho e Xororó with Sandy & Junior (orchestra version).
Is a cry to God about the one he loves and passed away (not a real story, but the way they sing is full of emotions).
The duo Chitãozinho & Xororó are bothers, and Sandy & Jr are Xororó’s children
React tô Black and white portait, retrato em branco e preto, composed with Tom Jobim
I have a suuggestion. Take a look at the news to what happened recently to Maria Corino in Venezuela and then listen to "Acorda Amor" by Chico.
Boa!!
If you really wants the stronger music from Chico Buarque, listen to "Geni e o Zeppelin"...
only those who don't know the reality don't understand it
Hi man,,, loving your reviews. Do a *PIYA PIYA CALLING* -coke studio pakistan.. ft kapri
Hey! I reacted to that video. It is on the channel.
