Crew skills are a crucial aspect in Ground battles. Although often overlooked, these skills can increase your tank's performance by a significant amount. Today, I explain every single tank crew skill with visual guides. This is a remake of one of my first videos, and I've corrected several mistakes, given it a fresh new voiceover and visuals and made it much more accurate.
Apologies for the big gap between this upload and the last one.

anyone here remember when they had the "Commander MG" Skill? I remember that there was a glitch which applied this skill to the Ostwind's main gun which in turn turned the thing into a laser pointer of death. I got SOOO many air kills because of it.
What was that?
@@lalad0 it was a skill that "improved the accuracy of the commanders AA machinegun"
@@4T3hM4kr0n Is there any footage of that?
😂😂😂
I thought targeting quality had to do with how well diagonally the gunner can traverse the turret. Upgrading a crew skill just to determine how accurate your shell is outrages
8:06 it does tho, thats why is the first thing i max on my tanks, saved me so many times
You're right, this doesn't affects on precision, this is skdogger fuckup
Yeah afaik it doesn't,
the only things that affect accuracy are vertical drive and adjustment modifications... Once you get them from that point on its RNG and the % of deviation Devs decided to give ur tank cannon that decides how accurate your shots will be..
Afaik It does dictate how "well" your gunner has aimed - meaning how much the shot actually aligns with your reticle, and the gunner adjusts it after each shot.
@@Biznatski that feel when you find a tank that shoots like it's a smooth bore shooting a rifled round
Don't matter if the pen indicator is green, you're at the mercy of rng
Somehow, the commander's generic skills are 1.5x more powerful than other crew members' counterparts. So when you are looking for upgrading the generic skills, prioritize the commander first before other crew members.
The commanders costs are much higher to compensate this
@@bertiesaurusyep
Thorough and concise. This was super helpful, much appreciated homie.
Really good info..... butt less "speed" og "energy" drinks would be really nice. Just dont have too "hurry" through the reading.
Personally I think the logistical tab is very important for late game players, the cost is so high to repair things and most of the time I end every day with all of my vehicles trashed (I turned off auto repair) and then wake up the next day with all of them repaired (maybe two days but still the cost is halfed) it is the most economical tab to complete especially for airplanes due to their cost and other skills not being terribly important aside from the pilot
What if I choose to leave my vehicles trashed overnight and it has more than a 24hr cooldown and I choose to play after say 16hrs will the total repair cost be decreased to whatever the equivalent of 16hrs is? Or should I still pay the whole cost for it to be instantly repaired?
@@MrAaDdRr the cost will be decreased in that case
@@MrAaDdRr nah, the cost decreases in real time, if u set auto repair off, and trash ur vehicle, and wait 3 or 4s, ull see ur repair lower 1 sl
And furthermore for particularly new players turning off the auto repair and and leaving trashed vehicles of one nation then changing to another nation and trash those ones, repair is still free (or discounted) and you haven't stopped playing plus it starts to brin other nations up. Be careful however if you trash American tanks and switch to say American aircraft the repair will be on the selected tab.
@@michaelkendall2911 Using that tip, which I also do, keep in mind that each nation has their own crew slots, which means if you switch from all damaged tanks to playing navy, your crews are no longer repairing your tanks. This can be seen when you take a damaged vehicle off your crew/preset, and then go into research and it says it takes half a month to repair tier 1 vehicles. So don't forget to put the damaged vehicles back on the crew roster before logging off. This starts getting more important after tier 3 or so. Low to mid tier and beyond.
Switching nations won't affect which vehicles are in the crew slots. But the bottom preset will.
okay so, very nice guide but damn you skilled 500% agility into speech speed..really hard to keep up sometimes and i have to rewing every few secs as a non native :/
Doesn't the rangefinding help with the normal Rangefinder? Only laser is unaffected afaik. Because when I use low crews with normal Rangefinder it often can't go beyond like low 1.xk but with good crews 2k+. Or does it vary by vehicle?
You are absolutely right, I didn't mention that. My bad 😅
@@skDoger Also, The higher the range finding skill, the faster you rangefind. This effects tanks with rangerfinder mods too. (I may be wrong, but that is my experience).
I thought that the rangefinder was only available to tanks that researched the mod itself like the Panther F... I'm about to abuse the shit out of her on Mozdok and Sinai
@@SgtMjRomero You can "Rangefind" in any tank. It is just the gunner guessing. The crew skill increase the guess accuracy and speed. The mods also add that.
Another thing is that range finding helps with how far your men can rangefind. For example, if you have 0 skill in range finding he won't be able to tell you past like 840m. It will just say 840< meaning the target is greater than 840m. As you add crew skill, he'll be able to tell you longer and longer distances 888
Radio comms also affect Sim Battles!
Gaijin added a neat little feature that you can request allied positions in your FOV when using the rangefinder.
U need to be in a certain range to be able to do Dat right?
What about in ground realistic?
@@Jeff--vq4zb that's part of what the red marker on the screen edge is from not just Keen Vision, allied tanks handing off data over radio.
Cool. I always upgrade the radio stat when possible.
i love these vids i just wish they could have been around when i started playing the game. even now though it is still very interesting to see the break down and get a complete explanation of how the skills work versus what you can actually get out of them. thanks again for this continued level of absolutely great content. it will definitely change how i distribute my points and be a great resource for new players.
Helicopter users don't deserve their own guide
@@bro3217 i wasnt even talking about helicopters what the heck you smokin
Talking just a bit to fast at times to make out every word ..
Important! You get 15 crew skills for every 1000 RP gained with that vehicle in RB, in SB it’s 9 and in AB it’s 30. If you want to grind crew points, play arcade.
I have no idea why they made it like that, so you going to play the hardest mode for the least reward? I noticed AB gave me wayyy more skill level than RB. And RB takes wayyyy more skill to play than AB and also takes twice as long to finish. I know because I suck at it.
Another tip for people who have a premium helicopter play arcade heli pve and put your helicopter on the crew you want to level play a few matches Heli PvE and you will get like 1000 crew points per match you can then spend these points on your tank or ship crew aswell your points will carry over
@@thesparpanzer4151 would you find running ordinary heli efficient as well?
@@DShazin I would say yes depending on which helicopter, premium helicopter have the higher efficiency and the max crew cost of only 10k sl so you would be able to place it on every of your crew slots but if you only want to grond one slot normal helicopters should work aswell.
@@thesparpanzer4151 Thanks! I will surely check your tips ! May RNGesus bless you.
you should make a helicopter crew skills video, it's one of those skills effects that are never really explained in the game, i know "keen vision" gives a better warning when you're being targeted by a missile but that's it.
i don't really know which skills have a use beyond keen vision and the usual reload/repair/vitality skills since the G-overload skill is useless.
That's an interesting idea, I'll definitely make it someday, thanks

Im not able to watch your videos without subtitles becaus ure pretty hard to understand just letting you know good contend anyways!
tnx for the vid, had to play it at 75% speed though xD
You know, it's not a race. You can slow down your explanations and it would really be easier to follow.
Make a crew upgrade tier list
This is what I subbed for
If you dont understand him, just play it in 0.75 speed. He sounds drunk but the speed is good.
Watch at 0.75 to understand him better
thanks for the nice info
could talk a little slower but not that big of a deal
u can get Ace qualification if u play too much with a tank, or u can get it discounted too
Sounds like you sped your voice up in the editor. It is not clear or pronounced.
10:03 what about tanks that has multiple loaders like the fv4005 or the tortoise ? if 1 of the loader dies and the other survives does the boost still apply ?
The boost will stay but I think the speed will still get reduced if one of them dies, not 100% sure though
Damn i Fooled myself with the Hangar Repair
Very useful summary, thanks a lot.
You have to talk slower or get a way better mic. Words were running together and I couldn't make them all out because you talk pretty fast. If it was IRL and I was looking at you I'd probably be able to make out very word, but on here I can't. Try to slow it down a notch or two.
You should try to slow down an enunciate when you're speaking I could barely understand this video
That’s a u issue lol
Really helpful thanks !
That was hands down the best explanation for Crew Skills I've ever seen in the 3 years I've been playing WT.
THANK YOU!
Your videos are really helpful. Thank you very much.
This really helped me out thank you
i think Radio Operator Gunner skill affects whether or not hit enemy ground vehicles will appear on your map. If you are too far from friendlies, hit enemy vehicles will appear as a ! and you don’t get any information about their vehicle type
That's... When you use the map to ping a position... Or when an alie uses his guns to hit an enemy... Artilery always indicates you if it's a light, medium, heavy, AA or tank destroyer... If it doesn't show what category of vehicle it is, it's because it wasn't artilery who hit it...
@@propanux negative, comrade. while artillery may always show you an enemy's vehicle type, friendlies nearby that directly attack enemies will always you give you that information, even when firing with their machine guns! but if they're too far, you only get a red ! mark. Blue ! marks are manual map pings and will always appear regardless of how far friendlies are from you
The red mark is just the spot where artillery was called. It shows up immediately after artillery is called, not after shells land.@@FoxtrotGolfLima
Each ground unit has visibility amount its decrease the chance of being spotted by the crew
Had to slow the video down to 0.75x so i could understand what was being said, but thi is a brilliant guide! Thanks!
I recommend Arcade if you want to get skill points faster.
And I recommend taking your own sandwiches when you go to disneyland. The food there is expensive af.
Please put spaces in between your words. I have to put subtitles on and slow down the playspeed. Literally
Dude this helped alot, thank you.
He said u shouldnt upgrade ur range finding crew if ur tank has a rangefinder already but if u plan on playing lower tiers u will need it so dont listen to that
When the crew memeber dies - crew skills doesnt work, cause new crew memeber which operates instead doesnt have any
This explained everything perfectly the only thing it was missing that I found out on my own (or perhaps i missed it in the video) was that qualifications were exclusive to the tank you're using and the levels are for any tank in the slot.
I think he said it buthe worded it weird
Keen Vision also affects the maximum range finder range of the Gunner, so it wont be capped at like 800 and can be upped to above 1000
I’ve been playing this game for like a year and have only been leveling up driver skill cause i didnt see the other tabs.
Bruh 🤣
Very nice
Bro thank you soooooo much!
Gear Shifting Time (GST) is not really useful on flat terrain but it is more powerful when you start moving your tank from stationary on a slope. Because high GST level driver can shift to the next gear fast before the slope slows down the engine RPM. Therefore, the tank is likely to move at a higher gear on slope compared to low GST level driver.
That's just my theory. You should test it out.
i thought keen vision worked in RB as well? yes, there are no red markers like in AB, but when u spot an enemy in RB and it is close enough to "trigger" keen vision, your team mates will have the target on the map. or did i get that wrong?
That might be the case, I'm not too sure
Bro needs subtitles
This is hands down the best video addressing this. Instant sub.
Very good timing, such an underrated channel!
Turn down the video speed to 0.75, thank me later!
I used to never get artillery, kills until I upgraded my artillery skill.
The skill isnt maxed i just leveled them once and it makes it dead accurate
Excellent information. However, I had to lower UA-cam speed to 75% so I could understand you. You speak way too quickly.
Even on 75% he somehow has the ability to turn 4 syllable words into 1 syllable words. Wtf Martian English is this
This video is excellent man, well done
Thank you :)
awsome thx for this
this helped me a lot. the crew system was hard to understand for me.
Thank god there are subtitles !
Play speed .75x
Struggling to understand this guys English, good info tho.
Personally, I leveling targeting of the gunner first, since often my fate is decided by fractions of seconds of the first shot, and not by the number of shots per minute, then leadership/reloading, and then field repair.
After years of playing WOT and Warthunder from my experience I can only 100% agree with you. Accuracy is the most important factor reload time comes right after that then it's armor and mobility I would go for leadsrship after that. Fieldrepair and vitality are both obviously useful but most of the times once you're hit survival chance in warthunder is low and at best you're soon to be dead because you're heavily damaged/wounded anyway. Just try not to get hit.
Mine just go to reload>rangefinder>leadership
Cool
You sound like you're from Moose Jaw. Now I gotta join your discord to find out.
Awesome!
Thanks for the guide! As a new player (a little over 70 hours) this was extremely helpful, in-detail skill explanation + tips on what to level and how was what i was looking for.
Thanks man
Any time
Which skill is for "talking speed"?
HISKILISLOW
So if you want to act as a spotter have a light tank with good driver and radio operator. If you want to hold points go heavy or SPG with good gunner and loader.
I don't think this was mentioned in the video, nor see it in the comment section:
After upgrading your crew to Skilled using Silver Lions, to upgrade the crew to Ace you can either spend your Golden Eagles or keep using the vehicle to reach the Ace rank by simply gaining Research Points.
But, of course, the higher the vehicle BR, the more RP you need.
For example 80 000 RP for a reserve Tetrarch I and 1 140 000 RP for an 11.0 Chally (2F). There is a progress bar in the Qualification window in the Crew skill menu, if the crew is Experted.
The vehicle does NOT need to be Spaded (all modifications researched) to progress through that bar. The RP doesn't either seem to be distributed like 50:50 in research and the Ace, or anything. You progress in both at the same time. You gain 3000 RP in modifications, you gain 3000 RP toward the Ace too (just done a research on this).
So if you like to play the vehicle and want it to be a bit better thanks to the skills, but don't wanna spend your GE to Ace the crew and have plenty of SL, Expert the crew ASAP ... and grind.
I have a question i just wasted some points in logistics tab and i wondered if i upgrade my crew to expert trough qualification will those crew skills be set back to 0 and all my points will be returned?
No refund's happening.
@@Nicitel94 so my point will stay still in logistics tab and i cant ever use it?
Yep. Once spent, not getting them back again.
As Far As I Know, at least. But I think I've heard them considering ability to respec the points. I'm not aware if it's in yet.
@@Nicitel94 will changing crew reset it mabye?
Thx for help
Honestly, I probably play war thunder in the wrong way
I don’t have a “main” country. I play them all. USA is rank 4, U.K. is rank 5, Germany rank 3, USSR rank 3, China rank 2, Japan rank 3, Sweden rank 2, France rank 3 and Italy/Israel I haven’t really gone far
With my crew I upgrade their unique skills skills twice (so 1 bar) then just even upgrade the rest across them all
It means I have a lot of tanks, a lot of crew and it is a slower grind to the top but I only really wanna play pre ww2, ww2 and just post ww2 tanks anyway
But I do have to wonder how far I’d be if I focused on one nation…
Believe it or not this is the best way to play, at least imo and the opinion of a lot of vets i've talked with. Reason 1. You learn the strengths and weakness of every nation, including specific characteristics of planes/tanks that a majority of your enemies may not have ever played, let alone researched. Reason 2. you experience less "burn out" because you dont feel trapped grinding for a vehicle/tier you really want to play due to the ability to easily switch once the loadout you've been grinding with starts to become frustrating/stale. and reason 3. You never know what the meta will become in the future, if it turns out UK becomes uber powerful due to a BR or tree change and USA/USSR becomes dog water, you'll be ahead of the crowd and will reap the benefits of learning the meta before most of the player base. I would say just keep going, but focus in on 1 or 3 trees to grind a bit harder than the others, and use the rest for filler games!
@@Avery.D99 thanks for the feedback, that is actually really nice to get
Thanks :)
Underrated video
Your video helped me out so many countless times because I keep forgetting what
This is helpful since i'm kinda new to this, welp time to go back to pain and suffering match.
Gotta be honest, had to watch a couple times cuz he spoke to quickly, I mean I appreciate that he doesn’t want to waste our time, but like go a little slower please, I’m deaf
7:20 driving helps to "dance" a hit away, if you have it high you can make small precise movements, so in something that have tiny weak point, right next to strong plate,
it can turn you into that squirming dude that just refuses to die.
that break time is counted for EACH turn, so if you make a lot of tiny movements, or you need to squeeze a shot in between buildings, it can be a savior.
if you ever had issues with precision and going just a touch to far, showing your weak point, this is the culprit.
12:20 also free repair is nice feature if you are not premium, you can save ~5000 silver lions by leaving broken tanks overnight on their repair cost.
if you run 20 games in a row in same preset of tanks, it's not that useful, but if you play for lions to afford new tank, getting 10 presets on different tiers and different nations, leaving it broken overnight can save you ~5k per preset. It also means you play low tiers 3-4 times as often as tops.
iam a little late to the party but i still wanted to ask if targeting is still buffed when the gunner dies?
I like how he shows the Tut- the T95 for a heavy tank
Idk i just put everything in reloading because
More shoots = more kills
Outstanding video, thank you.

Speed 0.75! You will thank me later
You missed the use of keen vision in RB scouting... Vitality is NOT an average crew skill. Repair is less important if you play in a regular squad... your team mates are WAY faster than repairing alone.
I can't imagine nobody has mentioned the fastest way to grind crew xp points here 😳
you talk way to fast in the video. slow your speech down as to make it easier to take all the facts in. very helpful guide 👍🏻
All I want is a crew saying "that bush looking kinda sus" at upgraded keen vision and there is a tank full of golden eagles bushes on it in RB...
It kinda feels like driver vitality can get you out of some sticky situations. If the loader dies, it kinda sucks, if the commander dies it's whatever, if the radio operator dies it's even more whatever. The gunner dies a lot, and it sucks, but if the driver miraculously survives, you might avoid getting bonked into the menu.
True
I LOVE YOU MATE
great video, one necessary comment: your analysis of the logistics skills is absolutely wrong. It is an essential skill that significantly lessens one of the biggest annoyances of war thunder, namely: silver lion hemorrhaging. Granted it doesn't really help you if you're only interested in playing one nation or even specific vehicles, but you can be clever about it. If you destroy all the vehicles you want to play in a particular line up, move onto a different nation and let that first line up repair in the background or come back to play the next day. You can eliminate or at least significantly reduce some of the most absurd repair costs that have been implemented. i imagine that this is a requirement for the French tech tree.
You should make one of these for aircraft crew!
The plane crew skills guide is relatively new, but I will definitely do a remake of it once it's a bit older
@@skDoger and naval?

For GRB new crews, on example if using GE, i first boost driving, reloading and targeting. Then commander, then rest of skills shared by all equally then rest.
Thats a very backwards order lmao
How to sealclub in 1 easy step: boost targeting, those low level tin cans are inherently inaccurate.
I've always wondered in the capture point you get a repair buff, does the logistics skill effect that? The wording has always felt a little open for interpretation iirc.
I'm pretty sure it does, since it's a percentage buff and not a flat buff it'll still affect it
@@skDoger I guessed as much. If nothing else just to make it not such a pointless skill
Upgrading driver drive skill on a light tank makes it amazingly easy to drive.
