- This is part one of a mountain bike ride in Taupo on the Great Lake trails.
In part one I ride from Kinloch up Otaketake mountain bike track, down Orakau and return via K2K back to Kinloch.
These trails are suitable for all riders but I chose to ride on my E bike, a specialized turbo levo.
Great video…Have to watch the 2nd part after the gym.
So looking forward to getting my 2022 Levo Comp tomorrow
Very exciting
wish we had to weather to swim halfway through a ride . Loveing the videos mate 👍
Must admit I get in the water very rarely these days but that day was hot.
That is an awesome loop. I rode it in the same direction. I'm going to go back and ride it the other way to see which is best.
I think it would work either way. May check out the trails at the other end one day. I did them year ago and got a water taxis.
Fantastic video. Will have to come and have a look around sometime. Great job
Perfect fun e-rip 🤙🏻 Talk about a great place to take newer riders! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for the feedback. Yes good place to ride without being technical.
Thanks for this it is excellent and we have posted on the Great Lake Trails page. Glad you enjoyed your ride and hope you did the trail survey too!
Nice one Lance , looks so nice , watching this while stuck in lockdown here in Ireland brings back lots of great memories from my time living in NZ many moons ago , keep it up mate 👍
Thanks Anthony. Yes lockdown sucks. We are back in it this week. Saying that we have been very lucky in NZ.
Nice, I still need to check that trail out
Definitely worth doing at some stage.
Need to do the old ghost road - have done that but would love your video on it!
Funny you should say that as I have been thinking about it a lot. I met a guy who did the whole thing on a 500wh battery. Admittedly he was about half my weight. Did you do it on an e bike?
K2k and o2k are great tracks and are good either way. W2k with headlands loop just as good also. Glad to see you in Taupo Lance. Nice.
Part two of this video I do the headlands loop.
Excellent video thanks Lance. Enjoy all your rides but it was good to get some footage of trails rather than bike park rides for a change.
Really helpful to be able to watch these trails being ridden rather than trying to decide what would be suitable for my wife and I just by reading about them.
Cheers
Thanks for that. I really would like to do more of these type of trails. I enjoy challenging tracks but also really enjoy exploring new areas.
Awesome ride by the looks of it.
It's a shame we don't seem to have tracks like that in Australia.
We are very lucky here in NZ. The government's answer to the GFC was to build mtb tracks.
@@bestdayevermtb2 that's a great solution!
You should check out the Remutaka rail trail too. Do it from Upperhut/Maymorn to Featherston. Its a great ride.
NZ has so many great rides I want to do.
Awesome trail for riders of most levels. Did it from Oraku to Whakaipo was def the best direction to do it.
In part two I do the headlands loop which was also fun.
Awesome video! When I'm not biking I'm rock climbing and Kawakawa Bay has some of the best climbing in NZ, it is usually pretty busy with climbers.
I didn't know that. I don't think my body is designed for climbing. I struggle to get of the ground when sitting.
Looks like a good scenic ride
Yes it is a nice day out. Nothing challenging but very pleasant.
Awesome video! Go here every summer to parents Bach and ride these trails, good to play around and try keep speed up without pedalling on some parts
I like to do that often. Good for the skills.
Cheers for this vid going to have to ride that when I'm down there in Nov
It is a nice ride. A few different options.
15:11 - what a shot
Rode creaters of the moon when i was down there this summer. Good fun
I also made a video of craters when I was down there. To be honest I was a little underwhelmed by the place.
A good ride is out to kawakawa Bay then loop up to THE Whanga car park onto kawakawa Rd then do the new loop the other side down. It's about 35 k all up 👍
Keen to go back at some stage and do some more.
Great vid Lance
Thanks mate. Really missing our group rides. We need to have a get together without sending anything.
Best Day Ever MTB totally, agree, although we could talk about sending 😀
I believe that Taupo is the only super volcano to erupt in human history, so if I'm correct then that lake is a crater from that specific eruption? Nice ride too
Yes wouldn't have wanted to be around when that thing blew.
Nice XC Route, branching out Lance? I will have to have a look at it next time I am in Taupo.
I really enjoy these types of rides just don't get round to doing them.
Hi Lance, will you be planning a trip to ride the Pike 29 trail? Wait for this COVID to blow over and I’ll hope to join you all the way from Singapore! Ha....
Would love to get down there sometime. Hope to do a big road trip one day.
lucky guy, escaped auckland
Didn't escape lockdown. This was actually filmed in January. I like to have videos up my sleeve to release as needed.
@@bestdayevermtb2 ah makes sense
Ha I just did this today!
How did you make it down there with covid?
Anyways great video lance!
Actually filmed this earlier in the summer. Alot of people think my videos are made instantaneously but that is way too much pressure. I actually have another 6 videos already made. I can release them at my own pace.
@@bestdayevermtb2 oh yes very smart!!
who would you recommend in Auckland for bike repairs?
I use BRM cycles in Kumeu. I also like Bruno from cycle Express but he is so far away from me. Specialized in mount eden seem good also.
Hey Lance, I’m looking at getting a new mountain bike and I’m not really sure which one to get. I mainly ride downhill trails, but I also want something that is ok for jumps. I’m looking to spend about $2500-$3500. A friend of mine suggested a giant trance 2. I was wondering if that was a good option?
A giant trance is not really a downhill bike as such but is a very capable all round bike and represents good value for money. A DH bike can be fun in bike parks but if you are riding up then something easier to pedal is much better. I would be happy jumping a trance.
@@bestdayevermtb2 thanks so much!
Live in acacia bay now i know wea excatly where u r😂😂😂😂
Lovely place Acacia bay.
Must suck being a red bull athlete carrying all those red bulls in your backpack 🎒
Actually made video recently where I did just that. Pulled the cans out at the end of the video. Luckily they are quite small.
K2K better the other way...
Good to know.
