Pretty cool! I always close the bottom silo chute door before climbing up to help keep the wind from blowing up the chute and blowing the chaff around. Give it a try. 15:28
It appears you need to get the wall cleaner adjusted better before winter sets in. You might also want to invest in a clean chute system to keep the climb up and down less messy.
We have the chain setup on our 16’ Jamesway silo unloader that looks almost identical to your yellow jacket. It works well most of the time but having that torque arm as we call it does do a better job keeping the unloader in place. Especially With the bigger diameter silos. Having the unloader properly set down at all times is a must especially in the winter. We are able to skip a door and do every other so that is nice.
You do an amazing job with your dad away he must be so proud. Also how incredible that the silos are up and working well it must be satisfying to see all the hard work reap the rewards now
Love this work you put into your farm When mentioned about cleaning your new feeders. I just watched a video where a dairy farmer also has the same feeders & automatic milkers He had a company come in & cleaned all of his equipment with machine that uses dry ice Faster cleaner & less chance of damage to the electronic equipment. Keep up the great content 🇨🇦🇨🇦
Wow l remember when you where putting in the Conveyor at the neighbors place. I love to watch your Maintenance videos, it's so important to do that. Thanks for sharing 🎉❤
Sour milking polar looks very clean I enjoy watching your video I don't watch many bit dairy s But yours is very treat to watch keepup the food work God Bless
been enjoying watching this process just be curious to see in years to come your take just so many moving parts with conveyors, silos, bins, etc plus curious to see how the lely works with winter snow and ice .

ROFL @ 2:46 "Welp! That made a difference." The unexpected speed of that gate hit the funny bone just right. 😛 Was working outside today near Hershey/Hummelstown/Vine St exit off 283. Stay cool this week!!
I'm a novice when it comes to air lines. Although I'm sure you have a water separator for the air, crud can still form in the lines and play havoc on those valves. I've used an anti-freeze/ lubricant made for air on my grain truck. It helped very much.
Ever heard the phrase work Smarter not harder a grease gun don't cost that much I would figure out a place to mount it on the unloader and leave it up there plus safer climbing up there enjoy your videos
I'm really diggin' this project, Eric! All of the mechanics and engineering is way over my head but it is fascinating to see it getting built. I'm really looking forward to seeing the next steps toward fully operational. So exciting!
Good to see the robots advancing through the process. I like that you give us a lot of information, we can follow along a lot easier that way. Good luck on the next steps for the auto feed system. Have a good one!
The cross-over tube may have been to open one and close the other at the same time. If you don't need that function, then pulling out the tee fitting should be just fine. And follow-up question on the robot metal tracks, are those at risk during plowing in the winter? Great content, love watching and learning!
For embedding the stips into the concrete. Could you just get a concrete saw and setup some straight edges and just cut the section out like you do when you cut a dado into wood. I will take quite a few passes but you could then recess it and then re-attach it.
Eric , On your robot feeders what about the snow and ice on the tracks will that interfere with the robots moving to building’s. Or our you going to shut them down and feed the cattle the old way. Eric , ever since I been watching your video’s you have grown a man and learning a lot on your farm and those episodes of you getting a soft drink in different places pretty cool . Your farm has come a long ways and still growing and learning more as you grow older. It’s awesome to have a family member to take over for their Dad , but still have your Dad there is awesome. Thank you for all the videos you did and keep going .
I see a guy up in Canada, last fall put his silo up, and attached a piece of PCV pipe on it, with a grease gun and I think a whisk broom too that rides along. Be a nifty idea, I still say run an LED flood up there for some light ;)
How is the solar doing on the barn? is it producing the electricity you expected? I am considering solar on my workshop to supplement my electrical use and reduce my monthly electrical costs.
You called it the control arm we called it the torque arm or door arm....we used to make that arm longer then it could telescope farther and we wood change every other door. Thank you for closing the non used doors!! I had so many customers that would expext us to close their doors when we would go raise their unloaders for them but they paid for it.🤷♂🤷♂
Without seeing the air system for the gates its hard to know, but is it possible that the loop line was supplying air to something in the centre of the parlour from each side when the gate was open? There could have been a check valve inline or in the tee on each side and one has failed, might be why one gate was working & one always had air on each side of the switch. But nice work on the fix, you've sure got to know a bit about everything as a farmer.
Hey, won’t you get a like a mailbox or something? You can leave the grease gun up there staring up and down every day every time you use it I thought it be like safer in some tubes of Greece put a mailbox or something inside in there on the machine or whatever you wanna put it down. Machine goes down goes down.
The strips for your robots are magnetic! To keep the roadway, clean, simply paint over the strip with clear polyurethane! Use the nautical grade, and it will last for years and keep you from having to sweep.
Maybe a stupid question but do you have some fail safe way of turning the power off before you climb into the silo? If say the robot demand feed and you were half way up the ladder i saw you can switch off in the tower.
Seems like a lot of feed is stuck to the inside walls of the silo, or is that just on camera? Will the walls get smoother over time so that doesn't happen so much?
why are the standard for navigation for these are the bolt on strips. when you first started i was sure they would just saw cut a strip and embed a little wire in the slit. it would be far more robust then these strips. if you get ice build up you cant scrape with them there and they are steel so they will corrode. i am sure it just makes lely more money and the farmer more indebted to them. youll probably have to buy the strips a lot.
BIG BIG hint! put a rope at hte top of the silo doors to pull a pail up with supplies for fixing stuff and for your grease gun etc.one out of natural fiber but won't rot.
Saw in a previous video you said you have UA-cam to “hedge” farm investments. I’m curious how you treat the incomes. The YT heavily relies on the farm obviously but do you make sure the farm is self sustaining without that “hedge” or just kind of mixing it all together?
I have a suggestion for the grease gun. Why not get one gun for each silo and leave them attached to the unloader. This is going to be an ongoing maintenance issue and would save possible problems, especially in winter.
We have 20 ft silos with valmetal unloaders im not sure why you couldn't skip a door. We do it with our smaller silos. I would think 24 ftt would work even better. Suit yourself just trying to be helpful
Seems like yesterday you put the conveyor in. You need to be a jack of all trades to be a dairy farmer. You do good Eric!
Very nice plain, explanation easily understandable.. Great job Erik!
Hahaha! He said it’s less fun with an updraft in the silo! That’s putting it lightly lol!
I take you have climbed a silo or two.
Pretty cool! I always close the bottom silo chute door before climbing up to help keep the wind from blowing up the chute and blowing the chaff around. Give it a try. 15:28
Parlor looking great. Ever forward

Definitely add some clean chute
whats a clean chute system? nerver heard of it
Send them the money to do it
@@turogkane5826 it's just a plastic liner you hang in the silo chute.
@@daveklein2826clean chute isn’t even expensive lmfao

Thanks for taking the time to sharing and explaining the new set up since I think most are very curious how it will work.

Always something to do around the farm. Have a great week.
Keep the hard work up I absolutely love your videos and I find him so interesting.
great video, keep up the good work
Eric, Looking good. I know how happy you feel to see this in operation. Praise Jesus!

Hope dad had a great time in Alaska & can't wait to see robots in action.
Could clamp a broom to the unloader. On a stationary part. Might make cleaning better. Brushes seem better than hands.
Great progress, getting more exciting. God bless, stay safe you guys.
Dave ,Ca
Great Video, good to see the new feed system coming together! well done on repairing the milking shed gates, thanks for sharing
You should mount a small brush up on the unloader so you can brush off the surfaces when you climb up, instead of using your hands.
Love these videos Eric. So much interesting info from you. Thanks till the next one.

Took the sleeves off an old hooded sweatshirt, and put that on whenever climbing up the silo in summer. It kept the chaff from going down your shirt.
Awesome video. Thank you so much Eric. Glad your parents are going home tonight.

I could have used that silo camera back in the ‘80s. Good luck with the new setup.
Awesome video as always

concern about clearing snow off those tracks in the winter months. Basically the wear and tear riding over the track

3:33 you should definitely add some rubber bumpers to the gates so they don’t slam all the time and break something prematurely
Bicycle tires, cut to size, do wonders for that job. A zip tie at the top and bottom will keep them in place.
lol - smart and persistent is best. 😜
Love your channel! It's the number one reason I bought a years subscription of add free UA-cam!!!
How was just gonna work with winter and snow on your trails or your tracks with the robot?
I can remember watching when you got them
You should look into a clean chute plastic for your silo downspout

Carry a "foxtail" in your back pocket going in the silo's and it'll make easy clean up on equipment. We used them in the Navy

Will those feeders have issues with ice on the path way?
Can the unloaded be adjusted to clean the silos inside walls better?
thank you
Another very interesting video Thank you 😊😊😊😊😊
Great video, one question. Are you going to be able to manually run system and feed cattle in case of failure or power outage?
Hi Eric. Another interesting video. Why a top unloader vs a bottom unloader?
All good!
Maybe a stupid question but do you have some fail safe way of turning the power off before you climb into the silo? If say the robot demand feed and you were half way up the ladder i saw you can switch off in the tower.
If the skirt on the bottom was a rotating ring brush, the feeder would clean its path as it goes. (1% of future sales please!)
Thanks 😊
Seems like a lot of feed is stuck to the inside walls of the silo, or is that just on camera? Will the walls get smoother over time so that doesn't happen so much?

Is there any way to brush the walls as it spins to keep the leftover feed from getting moldy and spreading it as you refill it?
Hi Eric have u thought about a clean cute for ur silos?

I have a suggestion for the grease gun. Why not get one gun for each silo and leave them attached to the unloader. This is going to be an ongoing maintenance issue and would save possible problems, especially in winter.
Are the inside walls of the silo really that rough? Or is that a trick of the light? I always thought they'd be as smooth as the exterior walls...
Put a little box on every unloader with enough gres for one year and a grespump
Great video.
13:46 you should just bring the leaf blower up and blow the unloader off.
