    I first saw Miha on those Keenan vids during lockdown, as I had begun jiu jitsu January 2020 and was consuming any good content I could find. I remember the street clothes matches. Always wondered what his story was. Pretty cool, grounded guy.

    I've written a children's novel about strongman training, jiujitsu, and standing up to bullies. I sent it to Jocko Publishing, and I hope you get the chance to read it one day.

    We need a modern blueprint book once in a while, 20 years ago there was that self published book from Gene Simco for example, which updated the moveset from classic gracie self defence to what's happening at the time). The games has changed now and people also want to rebuild and update their game. The game now very focused on wrestlng(but not just takedowns) pins and leglocks.

    These days, the term 'Single Leg X' is commonly used, but originally, the position developed by Marcelo Garcia was called 'One Leg X.'
    Congratulations on your book, @mihabjj! I'm confident it will be a key part of Jiu-Jitsu history.

    The nickname "Pé de Pano" comes from the cartoon The Woodpecker. As you mentioned, Brazilians are quite creative and love giving nicknames. Marcio's friend thought he resembled Sugarfoot, the horse from the cartoon, and the name stuck

    Bellieve Slovenians areTHE best world athlets also in other sports (martial arts, judo, swimming, rowing, climbing, cycling, skiing, many others disciplines. Miha is to modest, he is very versatile athlet. In BJJ space we appreciate to have him (-; If would not choose BJJ than would be good/bad ass in others sports. Best of luck, sLOVEnia

    Hey there Jacko i often sit and listen to stories from Tilt and i love it when you have Bill Mackraven (The Admiral),i send my condonencies to the loss of your brothers by the way i think you Jacko,need to fight Jake paul
    any way when i was young i always wanted to practice karate however my Dad wouldn't let me go,but then judo came to town and i was aloud to do this,after a while i started to really enjoy it,so fast forward about 4 years and i wanted to start boxing,this i really enjoyed i was about to do my medical,and by this time my parents split up and then Tae-kwon-do arrived in my town and i was still hungry to practice this art,the TKD i practiced was the old WTF version not the ITF which was foundered by genral choi in 1952 i got to my brown belt in Tae Kwon do thats 2 belts from my first dan black belt,the one thing i will say is you are not a ju-jit-su PLAYER you are a ju jit su practioner you can't say player,these are not art that you play with

    In reference to Megaton..... had a high level belt have a chance to roll with him in a recent competition out of our gym. Understand, as you mention of his size - from what I understand the name stuck not for his size but for the severe level of how he would throw is victims. Look forward to coordinate a Arizona visit out here some day Jocko to the gym my blue belt kid who attends here at Refuge. Great video and best to you Miha and your journey.

      I'm thinking about it in the same way an ultra marathoner thinks about running 200miles while his toenails are falling off and he has to crawl to the toilet to pee blood. But those guys always run again

    Interesting to hear Miha being quizzed about judo. It’s not like judo doesn’t have a much deeper history worldwide than bjj - which is clearly an offshoot sport right down to the gi and belt system. Kano took his sport and made sure it was planted worldwide, ensuring it lived on as an Olympic sport while bjj was in its infancy. Estimates put judo players worldwide at something like 50 million and bjj at something like 2-3 million. It may just be that here in SoCal where bjj thrives that there is this misperception that it is this way all over the globe. Here in SoCal, though, judo still is strong though somewhat under the radar since the main clubs are still found in the old Japanese community halls and are run as non-profits and not all that visible.
    All that being said, and acknowledging my own bias from having played judo many years in those old clubs (HI, OR, WA, and a memorable turn once in London), bjj is incredibly fun and probably better suited to the older player. Years of throws left me with repeated shoulder and both knee dislocations (not counting lighter injuries (three broken noses) and I’ve not once been similarly injured in bjj.
    Of course, being older I like to think I’m also smarter about who I play with and how far I go to avoid the submission.

      I’m thinking of starting Judo at 27 before I get too old. Have you visited Okuban in Portland Oregon? I live outside of the greater PDX area and I’m wondering if braving Portland on a weekly basis numerous times a week is worth it.

    • @mrtulipeater
      @mrtulipeater 24 дні тому +1

      Obukan. Oldest club on Portland. Traditional. You should visit. There is also Ojukan in Hillsboro.

      @ do you think a decade is a realistic enough window to earn a black belt in judo if I were to start today going at least 2 times a week and keeping in mind that I am slowly but steadily going to be on the tail end of my prime right now and slowly going to be on the decline thus probably will need a defensive and more relaxed approach to Judo?

    • @mrtulipeater
      @mrtulipeater 24 дні тому +1

      What is so important about dedicating a decade to playing judo?

    • @mrtulipeater
      @mrtulipeater 24 дні тому +1

      It’s an explosive sport and matches are time limited. I don’t know that I’d share a presumption that it is something that you can just relax into. Just go play and see if it works for you.

    Heel hooks definitely hurt
    You clearly start feeling the stretch in your knee. I don't know where this peace of misinformation came from. If they are applied in a precise and controlled manner, it is a clear feeling of your knee going to failure.
