  • In this demo, I go over how you can correctly configure the DNS Server role on your Windows Server 2022. The default DNS Server configured during DNS Server setup may or may not have the needed entries in two lookup zones. This can be fixed with two simple steps. The previous tutorial on how to install DHCP Server role, please watch: • How to install and con...

    This demonstration uses Windows Server 2022 server. But the principles are same for Windows Server 2012 through 2022 (Windows Server 2022 / 2019 / 2016 / 2012). There are no or very little GUI differences among most of the previous versions of Windows Servers.

    Hello, it is my first time subscribing to anything so I am absolutely brand new. However I was trilled by your video on how to install and configure DNS I have been searching for a video that explains the process and by far yours was the best that i have found. You were very detailed in explaining every step and with specific. I felt like I was bac in a classroom. Thank you so very much, Now I will like to get the video on how to install and configure DHCP can you please direct me on how to find that video?

    1st, TYVM for all your videos. I already had a "(same as parent folder) Host (A) server.ip.address Timestamped" entry in my Forward Lookup Zone even though I didn't put it there. NSLookup resolved my server name and domain name correctly. When I looked at your example, you had one also. 3rd one from the top. The one you added in your example shows at the bottom with no Timestamp. Why did mine work without adding the new FLZ while yours did not? Keep up this excellent work of helping others and ignore the comments that do not.

      Perhaps mine was there already and worked because it was my DC? All Servers joined to my Domain were listed also. I still wonder why NSLookup didn't resolve yours even though you already had the A Record.

      I would save the txt file inside the main folder used by the IIS web service. It's the root of the website.

    Good afternoon. I do want to thank you for all your great videos. They're great and have a lot of detailed information.
    I do have a question, how can you add a second IP subnet or multiple subnets.
    We have multiple IP subnets, and when we ping them by IP, we don't get the host name, but if we ping the by host name, we do get the IP of the host.
    Thank you,

    I have a question that comes to mind
    We assume that we have 5 records, all of them with the same domain name, and each record has a different IP
    Why when requesting query
    The Name Serverin Response brings me all five records, not one or two
    Is this constant in dns?
    Or there something that can control this? I mean two records only go not the five

    How do I resolve a public IPaddress with my internal DNS server?

  • @TheN3UTr4L

    Hi Geek, great video, thank you.
    I have a problem, I would like if you have any tips for me to start a solution, when I configure Outlook 2016/2019 for my internal clients, Outlook does not find the office365 host information, however when I configure it with Google DNS, they work perfectly, maybe i need to create some redirection in my local dns?

    • @NetITGeeks
      @NetITGeeks  9 місяців тому +1

      Most likely either your local DNS is not configured correctly or it is possible your firewall rules are blocking access to the O365 servers. I would check the firewall rules fist. Typically if this is in a controlled lab environment, I just turn off all firewalls and try. If that works, I know this is a firewall issues and add a exception rule to the firewall. If this is in a production environment, I search up what is being used by the Microsoft O365 connections and open up those ports or channels using firewall rules so I don't disable firewalls in a production enviro. I would go after DNS once I know for sure it is not the firewall because 90% of the time my connection problems are caused by firewalls.

  • @kevinlegobrickmaster8015

    I don't know why but when I do the NSlookup it comes up with an IPv6 address even before starting it any ideas as to what is causing this?

    • @NetITGeeks
      @NetITGeeks  11 місяців тому

      So, there is no IPv4 address? Maybe your DNS resolution config on the server is incorrect? Check your server config (per video here).

    • @kevinlegobrickmaster8015
      @kevinlegobrickmaster8015 11 місяців тому

      @@NetITGeeks I managed to solve it, there is an IPv4 but IPv6 was also enabled so I guess the nslookup prioritized it.

    • @NetITGeeks
      @NetITGeeks  11 місяців тому

      Thank you for the information. I usually turn off IPv6 on all VMs in my lab. I found sometimes the IPv6 and IPv4 can mess things up if both are on. But we should be able to use both if properly configured.

    • @NetITGeeks
      @NetITGeeks  11 місяців тому

      Yes, I have disabled IPv6 in this lab environment. This is recommended when you are doing these labs for school projects and testing concepts. This will avoid any IPv4 and IPv6 mixups and conflicts.
