Thanks for the video nice and simple, I am having an issue can you help? I followed you all the way till the nslookup and I started to have errors?? DNS request timed out!! do I need to enable any firewall rules?
Did you run nslookup on local server? Check both forward lookup and revers lookup zone for records. Make sure that you have assigned correct DNS server address in network adapter properties.
Thanks for this video, it was clear and well explained. Do you think you could do the same kind video tutorial for configuring the Debian as a router ? Is this configuration is fit for a smal or large network, please ? I need to configure a DNS for a large network, do have to configure the Secondary Zone next to the Primary Zone ? Thanks in advance for your answer !
Do a video on how to configure a quota limits 4Gb (upload and download) for a month to users to access internet. The internet access for each user a month is limited to 4GB only. Hope and waiting to see your new videos..👍
If server is connected to the Internet then you can use ISP's name server or you can configure local IP address or 127.0.0.1 as a preferred name server.
@@GagiuCristianOfficiall I'm just trying to understand, since in the past MS always recommended using the local host address, due to delays in network driver loading at startup, but now I see recommendations for using the static IP rather than local host, but with no explanation to the change in practice.
You need to assign the IP addressing as per your networking design and IP address range which you are using in your network. So you need to check for the IP address range in your network or ask the networking guy about it. It also depend on do you need internet connectivity? Generally we can pick any IP address range from private IPv4 address range and use router or firewall to do the NATing for Internet. You internet connection will terminate on Router or firewall.
well i screwed something up because my default server is unknown and the address is a mac address and not an IP address... so damn frustrating. good tutorial, I'm just useless at configuring servers i guess
Did you check the IPv6 address? IPv6 will take precedence over IPv4, so when you run nslookup, it will show you the IPv6 address with message "Default server Unknown".
@@MSFTWebCast I didn't, but I was running it on virtual box and they have their own network. This game me 2 ip addresses (one I set and the one virtual box game me) which caused the issue. Once I set the network to local network my problem was resolved! Thanks for the response though, I wasn't expecting that

do you need to point the NS to the IP ADRESS First?
Thanks for the video
just want to know what will happen if the forward lookup and reverse lookup zone was not configured?
What should I set as the nameserver for the DNS setup of the domain name?
If server is connected to the Internet then you can use ISP's name server or you can configure local IP address or 127.0.0.1 as a preferred name server.
Can you explain why you used the local IP address rather than the 127.0.0.1 loopback for the DNS server's DNS in the TCP/IP config? 1:50
i think it s the same thing

your forward lookup zone name should be like dnszone.com etc..
it used to work but after implementing from this video, it wont work anymore
😂😂
On my Accent?
You need to improve you pronunciation. Its "zone" not "ZAUN"
Thats my weakness.
its just an accent no?
