That's what I do, I'm no expert but I think that's what makes the most sense, otherwise you may end up with a huge difference of strength between both of your hands. A year ago, my left hand wasn't able to close the #1, or barely able to. I worked my way up by doing 5x5 (or until failure if I wasn't able to complete all 5 reps of any set. I always start with my weaker hand, and if for example I only managed to do 3 reps on a set with my weak hand, then I'll stop after 3 reps with my stronger hand, even if I was able to continue with it. I did this 3 times a week. Once I managed to do all 5x5, I increased to 5 sets of 6, then 5x7 etc. At some point I reached 5x16, so I decided to go up a level and buy the #1.5. Did the same for a few months, up to 5x12. Now I got the #2 two weeks ago, could barely close it with my left hand at first. Doing this training again, I can do 5 reps with both hands already. I don't know if this workout is optimal or even close to, but it worked very well for me.
Dominant hand is always going to be stronger than your non-dominant unless you take a lot of action with your non-dominant hand. I always try to use my non-dominant hand for carrying stuff. My dominant hand will never weaken anyway since I use that for anything that requires precision.
5 years late but if someone has the same doubt I’ma say NO You had, have and will have a stronger hand than the other one So If you wait to do the same reps You’re just gonna loose time about your stronger hand
I wondered when I close the number one CoC with the first try. I am 17 years old, never trained in gym and now I can close the Number 2 3 times in a row
@Bamboo TrainingSome people i know closed the number 2.5 the very first time they tried. My friend got 3 reps with the 2.5 with no training at all. The very first time I used gripper i closed the coc trainer for 20 reps.
@Bamboo Training Ok true. My friend doesnt really have big hands like me. We both have 7 inch hands. However he is open about the fact that he isnt natural. Some "Enhanced" people who train bodybuilding style can get a strong grip just by deadlifts and that can carry over to Coc.
Thank you. I think you would improve your presentation by mentioning the in-between grippers, like the .5 (120 lbs) and the 1.5 (167.5). I am not sure the transition can be made from the #1 to the #2 easily without an intermediate gripper. What do you think?
It very well can be done. I trained with the nr 1 until I got about 35 reps with it. I got there quite easily by training my grip every third day for a few months. I could close the nr 2 7 times with my right and 4 times with my legt by then. Another few months passed and I can close the nr 2 for 25 reps on my right hand and the 18 on my left
I’m a judoka and i noticed I had been watching the grippers wrong all this time. So one doesn’t need to do 100s reps? We close it 5 times a few times during the day and that’s it? I’ll let you know if I see an improvement! Thank you, your video was great!
Correct. Fewer reps with a more challenging gripper builds more strength. If your goal is endurance, doing a bunch of closes may help, but simply getting stronger also helps endurance.
Also a good routine. I do it sometimes, especially if I'm in a hotel gym that doesn't have heavy enough dumbbells for my regular training. At home I have fat handle dumbbells, which are a 2" grip with no knurling. Love those.
Start off with the trainer. Most guys can't close the number 1 their first time. I would recommend buying the trainer, 1, and 2. You'll close the number 1 sooner rather than later so than you'll use the 2 for negatives.
when I was young I was always strong with bench press and stuff. Over 75kg untrained. I also thought I had a good grip but when I press a weightscale with two hands only 70kg which means 35kg per hand that sucks. however my static force is much higher if I grip an object nobody is going to take it from me. very strange.
BuiltLean thanks... today I got 80kg only by making myself angry but who cares about me ;) I'll need to do measure it officially. Currently I'm an IT guy and it irritates me and I am going to work on it. whole days behind a computer and playing piano as a hobby increases your duration but not strength. An old colleague of me messed up his right hand and had to work with his left hand. Very sad. I'm not sure if increasing grip strength is good against RSI, but some general condition is never bad for anyone I guess
It has an effect on the nervous system to unlock pushing and pulling strength. While I imagine there is scientific research to support this, it becomes self-evident when you increase your grip strength. For example, increasing grip strength allows you to activate more muscles. Check out Pavel Tsatsouline and irradiation strength training for more info.
2:28 I overlooked your suggestion and practiced with 150lb. I couldn't sleep in the night. My palms were hurting because of the soaring muscles. Horrible!
I have big hands....so it's almost impossible to completely close the gripper. For me, closing is simply when my fingers start to touch my palm around the gripper.
very good information man. one thing to all the other tho, grippers are excellent for hand strength. but you need to walk around with some heavy shit too to not just get stronger hands but also improve other muscle groups that help support the grip, like the neck/trap area or whatever
I purchased the 80 lb one I forget the name...and the No. 1 Not sure if I can actually close the 80 lb (sport?). My hands are a good size but my wrist and forearms are weak. Made a little gains over the years.
You livin in the 90s or what lol. Bro go to a good place like Decathlon if your city has one, or just order online if you live in a small town and there's no Decathlon where you live. Btw, what qualifies as a low quality gripper?
If you're not doing it already, incorporate negatives into your gripper workout. This means hold the number 1 gripper almost closed, then open your hand as slowly as possible. Work up to doing 5 sets of 5 negative reps and you will likely be able to close the gripper fully. Also, accessory exercises such as dead hangs (hang on a pullup bar for as long as possible) will strengthen your support grip which will make it easier to keep the gripper steady in your hand. Good luck.
Those are great recommendations! Another way to do negatives with the gripper is to close the gripper all the way using assistance from your other hand, try to hold the closed position for a few seconds with one hand, then slowly open your hand while resisting the tension as much as you can. Keep us posted on your progress! -Kristin, BuiltLean Managing Editor
That's a great question. If you check out the instructions on IronMind, they recommend that you do 3 sets of 5-10 reps 3x per week. Essentially, they advise that you approach grip training the same way that you do a regular strength workout. Start with a warm-up by doing a few lighter-weight sets to prepare your hands for max strength. Then do 3 sets of a more challenging gripper for 5-10 reps to failure. And for total hand strength, they suggest training your flexors with a rubber band. Remember, it's during rest that you recover and get stronger. Hope that helps! - Kristin, Managing Editor
if you don't have the money to buy multiple grippers. another good way of warming up your hand, plus getting added strength training is. go to a chin up bar. hang from it with your hands. but let your hand "droop" a little, to where you're hanging from just your fingers. once or twice per minute, try doing what I call "finger pull ups" it's great for warmup and it even helps to train individual finger strength
My personal experience w coc grippers , which I have used for 5 years , I only train once a week , I train 2 warm up sets . And work my way to the no 2 gripper . After about 6 sets my hand is shot and needs a week to recover .
I don’t know why but I train for grip training using grippers. Since then my grip is not strong enough to grab my friends arm. Or crush people’s hand when shaking it.
There are many different opinions, but once you can get to 5 reps, consider a heavier "challenger" gripper. Going to the #2 helped me close the #1 more easily.
Does anyone here know how I can make my own hand gripper? Is it possible to make a gripper rated 270 - 300+lbs RGC ? ( In the future ) How do I make them? Where can I get springs that big? Or do I have to go to machinest to make them for me? Help me :)
Dude just buy COC grips from amazon. I believe they cost 25 $ each and the resistance range varies from 60 lb to 365 lb. Much easier and cheaper than making your own in my opinion.
My problem is how to exercise the first finger. With this device you develop a lot the second to fifth fingers, but the first is always left as acessory... Do you have any idea to help me solve this mistery :)? Thanks a lot. I Love your videos.
Glad you're enjoying the videos! To strengthen your first finger more, try flipping the gripper the other way, so the circle is on the pinky side of your hand. Try that out, and let me know if that helps. -Kristin, BuiltLean Managing Editor
Thanks a lot for your answer. I will surely try what you advised, for sure it will work. Also in that exercise, I will fix my other fingers (in a table or whatever) and try to close the first. Anyway, I'm very grateful to you for your attention and time to answer me back. I'm a teacher of massage and anatomy, and if you have the patience and time check my videos (some not so good as yours...) on youtube/massagempro it would be a big pleasure for me :). Hey Jonathan - if you can deadlift over 300 pounds pretty easily, starting with the #1 is totally cool. Most guys I've found have trouble with the Trainer on their left / weak hand. The idea is that your first CoC you will be able to close or very nearly close.
I have this weird hand gripper that has finger grooves on it. Its old so it makes this squeaky sound, and when you let off, the bar that is on it makes a popping sound that sounds annoying. The grip is plastic and its smooth, so its hard to grip it and squeeze without using your other hand to keep it in place. Its better than nothing, but I never get an actual work out from it.
Is it normal to have pain in your pinky knuckle tendon closest to the nail? Mine always hurt after I use the grippers but I've only been using them for about a week. I think it has to do with how my other 3 fingers are pretty firmly on the gripper but my pinky is just barely on them when I'm holding it.
You mean grip strength specifically? Any kind of normal lifting where you can't fully close your hand, like a fat handle dumbbell or axle barbell. Working your fingers around in a bucket of rice is supposed to be amazing for grip. Have not tried.
I've got one that is adjustable up to 40 kg max (around 88 lbs) and I exercise with it doing like 20 reps or so. I'd love to check one of these to see my hand strength.
@krishnagupta9481 Not necessarily. Almost every other gripper overrates their weight compared to CoC. That said, if he only bought one I would still recommend 0.5. Because his grip is clearly not terrible and he might outgrow Trainer quickly.
Don't level jump quick, I 've been doing pull ups for 20 years and it wasn't until I bought a couple of 10 kg dumbbells and do crazy high reps like 5 sets of 30 reps daily that I stiffened my biceps.
I have the number 2 and I don't think anyone needs anything higher than that. I've never tried the number 3 but the 4 is ridiculous. Just do more reps with what you can do.
Only 5 people have been recorded to close the #4 => bit.ly/30rr55n. I bought it several years ago as a novelty item. If you buy it, good luck closing it with 2 hands!
What if one hand is stronger than the other? Do you have to do like certain reps and ratios for the hands or do you just use the other hand more until they feel equally as strong?
Do each hand for the same amount of reps. Eventually they should be able to balance out. If not, you can see a knowledge trainer / physical therapist for some in person professional guidance
Anyone watching this for health reasons, I'd like to note that using those grippers do not help with strength in areas you need it needed. Using a gripper will only make you stronger and able to use harder grippers there are different grips you can train for health reasons.
@@madjadkristianl.9144 I know this is one year old, but for anyone, who reads it: knuckle pushups are a variation for people, who have wrist problems with normal pushups.
Benjamin Molina rumor is 1/3 of what you can double overhand hold for 10 seconds. So if you can hold 315 double overhand deadlift for 10 seconds(or doubles or triples) then that is what you can close. Fire example my CoC #2 is rated at 107 lbs, so a person that can double over hand 321lbs for 10 second hold or a triple should be able to close it or get very close. What you can deadlift with a mixed grip or with straps has no measurable correlation though.
how do I train my grip the most effective way? like do I close the gripper for 20 reps till my grip fatiques or should I use a harder one which I can only close like 3-5 times?
i started with 20 kg grippers, moved to 40, to 50, now at 70 my usual routine is to do 20kg like 20 time on each hand, then 40kg like 20 times again, then 50kg 20 times, and then 70kg as many times as i can. once i can do 75 kg 25 times without trouble, ill move on to 90 kg etc.
@Manfreski except the exact opposite is true. It's best to close the hardest gripper you can close and try holding it shut for 5 - 10 seconds. Do this for a few sets with breaks in between. Do it maybe twice a week.
It depends on preference. These days, I just use one challenger gripper #2 which I'm unable to close. The other option is I had a #1 which I don't any longer is that I would do 5 closes and really crush the gripper. I personally like doing 1 to 5 reps. With the challenger gripper, I just do 1 rep for 3 to 5 sets as it's strong medicine. The gripper can also serve as a useful barometer for your training status in terms of strength or readiness. If you are overtrained, the gripper will be very difficult to close.
Captains of crush are basically the gold standard of grippers so saying you can close a #2 means a lot more than saying you can close the hardest setting on your adjustable gripper. Of course if you don't really care for the standards and just want to increase your grip, the adjustable one is fine as long as its hard enough.
I have an adjustable one that ranges from 12-42kg, but I havent found anything harder. I bought CoC 65kg (no 1) because its tougher than the adjustable one, and I want to get stronger.
@Grip Mania India if you go from being weak to being stronger by using a tool, guess what, youre doing strength training and thus getting stronger. Rehab IS training. Lmao, gatekeeping exercise, get off your high horse you narrow minded buffoon.

+DarkSim64 cheers, that's what I ended up doing and glad I did, didn't take long for my left hand to catch up
Yes
Dominant hand is always going to be stronger than your non-dominant unless you take a lot of action with your non-dominant hand. I always try to use my non-dominant hand for carrying stuff. My dominant hand will never weaken anyway since I use that for anything that requires precision.
5 years late but if someone has the same doubt I’ma say NO
You had, have and will have a stronger hand than the other one
So If you wait to do the same reps
You’re just gonna loose time about your stronger hand
I wondered when I close the number one CoC with the first try. I am 17 years old, never trained in gym and now I can close the Number 2 3 times in a row
S M don’t listen to bamboo training. He’s just salty that he has trained his grip for 10 years and still isn’t as strong as you.
I have something similar. I use a powerball as well. The two combined are a real hand burner.

Once I bought it.It is very good.I lost i somehow. Now unble to buy it during lockdown.I will buy it again after the lockdown end.
Very nice video...
I like it so much...

This is my new hobby. 🙂
I grab the end of my dumbbells as my grip workouts.
Also a good routine. I do it sometimes, especially if I'm in a hotel gym that doesn't have heavy enough dumbbells for my regular training. At home I have fat handle dumbbells, which are a 2" grip with no knurling. Love those.
Damn man you are right if you can't hold it you can't lift it I can't hold myself at the pull up bar then how can I do one thanks a lot
Also ab/core strength is essential for pull ups.

Thank you very much!
I have a strong forearms but i dont know what grip would be good for me
Start off with the trainer. Most guys can't close the number 1 their first time. I would recommend buying the trainer, 1, and 2. You'll close the number 1 sooner rather than later so than you'll use the 2 for negatives.
I'm 9 years old
I don t know how my schedule should look like... i d Train everyday but actually i don t know how to organise everything
great overview
Thanks and glad you liked it!
great video, you have amazing forearms.
I'm 17 and about to get GHP Level 6 which is between #2.5 and #3
when I was young I was always strong with bench press and stuff. Over 75kg untrained. I also thought I had a good grip but when I press a weightscale with two hands only 70kg which means 35kg per hand that sucks. however my static force is much higher if I grip an object nobody is going to take it from me. very strange.
That's definitely interesting. Thanks for sharing!

Very sad. I'm not sure if increasing grip strength is good against RSI, but some general condition is never bad for anyone I guess
sir, i am a 15 year old boy . can you tell me how many times should i close these grippers a day ?
I would aim to do 3 sets of 10 reps about 3-4x per week. Give that a try, and let us know how it goes!

Is it okay if I start off with No. 1 120 lbs?
Increasing grip strength increases strength? That's scientific alright.
It has an effect on the nervous system to unlock pushing and pulling strength. While I imagine there is scientific research to support this, it becomes self-evident when you increase your grip strength. For example, increasing grip strength allows you to activate more muscles. Check out Pavel Tsatsouline and irradiation strength training for more info.
actually yes it works..at least for me!
Only sassy boys have soft hands

Ik this is old but should i buy these? Or should i do something else?

Hey mark love your channel Great Tips With minimum BS Keep Up The Good Work subscridlbed.
very good information man. one thing to all the other tho, grippers are excellent for hand strength. but you need to walk around with some heavy shit too to not just get stronger hands but also improve other muscle groups that help support the grip, like the neck/trap area or whatever
Farmers carry is good for that.
I just use it as a stress relief it's good
Which is harder to close , a 365 lbs hand gripper or a 100 kg power twister bar?
I can not do for Years from CoC 1,5# to CoC2# , but i was ever on 2

any tips bro? thanks
If you're not doing it already, incorporate negatives into your gripper
workout. This means hold the number 1 gripper almost closed, then open
your hand as slowly as possible. Work up to doing 5 sets of 5 negative
reps and you will likely be able to close the gripper fully.
Also, accessory exercises such as dead hangs (hang on a pullup bar for as long as possible) will strengthen your support grip which will make it easier to keep the gripper steady in your hand. Good luck.
I'm using Hand Gripper by DESH: www.amazon.com/dp/B01FIIFGFW Because it has counter and i hate to count my reps. So it helps me to see my results.
Those are great recommendations! Another way to do negatives with the gripper is to close the gripper all the way using assistance from your other hand, try to hold the closed position for a few seconds with one hand, then slowly open your hand while resisting the tension as much as you can. Keep us posted on your progress!

Starting out with 45 / 27 kg? That's a lot.
Why not get adjustable grippers instead? That way you can always practice the whole range of motion.
how many times can I do it per day without it being harmful?
I'm 13 on number 2. Kinda proud of myself
Thank you so much.
You're welcome. Glad it was helpful!
I don’t know why but I train for grip training using grippers. Since then my grip is not strong enough to grab my friends arm. Or crush people’s hand when shaking it.
My dad would train these with just his index finger and thumb
When should I buy heavier grippers? The heaviest one I have is the CoC 1 and I can only close it for one rep.
There are many different opinions, but once you can get to 5 reps, consider a heavier "challenger" gripper. Going to the #2 helped me close the #1 more easily.
I ordered a number 5
I got 100 pound this thing hard but I like it
Does anyone here know how I can make my own hand gripper?
Is it possible to make a gripper rated 270 - 300+lbs RGC ? ( In the future )
How do I make them? Where can I get springs that big? Or do I have to go to machinest to make them for me?

Dude just buy COC grips from amazon. I believe they cost 25 $ each and the resistance range varies from 60 lb to 365 lb. Much easier and cheaper than making your own in my opinion.
Rani Khalaf I’m talking RGC numbers.
I just closed number 1.5 in last month. Did a video about it. I want to be able to close number 2 now.
You can get one from aliexpress that you can set from 50N to 600N, it works for me

Is it okay if I start off with No. 1 120 lbs?
Hey Jonathan - if you can deadlift over 300 pounds pretty easily, starting with the #1 is totally cool. Most guys I've found have trouble with the Trainer on their left / weak hand. The idea is that your first CoC you will be able to close or very nearly close.
Number 1 is 140#
0.5 is 120 #
I have this weird hand gripper that has finger grooves on it.
JWALNATION as long as you do enough to tire your muscles it should be fine
Is it normal to have pain in your pinky knuckle tendon closest to the nail? Mine always hurt after I use the grippers but I've only been using them for about a week. I think it has to do with how my other 3 fingers are pretty firmly on the gripper but my pinky is just barely on them when I'm holding it.
Hey at 48sec he said "Pap to crush grippers"
You remember I have one
can you name more exercise which can help in increasing stregnth
You mean grip strength specifically? Any kind of normal lifting where you can't fully close your hand, like a fat handle dumbbell or axle barbell.
Working your fingers around in a bucket of rice is supposed to be amazing for grip. Have not tried.
I've got one that is adjustable up to 40 kg max (around 88 lbs) and I exercise with it doing like 20 reps or so. I'd love to check one of these to see my hand strength.
Raul
I have that too but I just got it
If you have completed 40kg,you can move to coc trainer 45kg
@krishnagupta9481 Not necessarily. Almost every other gripper overrates their weight compared to CoC. That said, if he only bought one I would still recommend 0.5. Because his grip is clearly not terrible and he might outgrow Trainer quickly.
watching this while coronavirus
How long do I need to hold the gripper and how many times do I need to do it in one set?
just until the handles touch each other,
do as much as you can. OR just 10 each set (or as much as you feel like it in a set)
Don't level jump quick, I 've been doing pull ups for 20 years and it wasn't until I bought a couple of 10 kg dumbbells and do crazy high reps like 5 sets of 30 reps daily that I stiffened my biceps.
Does it increase forearms muscle???
I have the number 2 and I don't think anyone needs anything higher than that. I've never tried the number 3 but the 4 is ridiculous. Just do more reps with what you can do.
I'm 17 and about to get GHP Level 6 which is between #2.5 and #3
Only 5 people have been recorded to close the #4 => bit.ly/30rr55n.
Using a gripper will only make you stronger and able to use harder grippers there are different grips you can train for health reasons.
by strengthening your wrist and forearm
will it be a great help in doing pushups?
because when i do pushups its like my wrist is always the problem thats why I can't go on further
@@madjadkristianl.9144
I know this is one year old, but for anyone, who reads it: knuckle pushups are a variation for people, who have wrist problems with normal pushups.
If you have wrist wraps you can lift it
Is there a correlation between how much you can deadlift and press with the handgrippers?
Benjamin Molina rumor is 1/3 of what you can double overhand hold for 10 seconds. So if you can hold 315 double overhand deadlift for 10 seconds(or doubles or triples) then that is what you can close. Fire example my CoC #2 is rated at 107 lbs, so a person that can double over hand 321lbs for 10 second hold or a triple should be able to close it or get very close. What you can deadlift with a mixed grip or with straps has no measurable correlation though.
how do I train my grip the most effective way?
like do I close the gripper for 20 reps till my grip fatiques or
should I use a harder one which I can only close like 3-5 times?
i started with 20 kg grippers, moved to 40, to 50, now at 70
my usual routine is to do 20kg like 20 time on each hand, then 40kg like 20 times again, then 50kg 20 times, and then 70kg as many times as i can. once i can do 75 kg 25 times without trouble, ill move on to 90 kg etc.
Will the hand grippers also increase my hand palm size?
They should increase the thickness of your hand
BuiltLean do they increase forearm size?
Yeah, these will definitely make your hand palm larger. 👍 ...100%. Trust me.
I can close 2 20 times, I think I need move up to 3.
Why not buy 1 adjustable one instead of 4 different grippers I bought the adjustable one for just 5 dollars extra
