P5R Bad End Animatic - Erase

- akira kurusu and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad decision
it's been...nearly 2 whole years since pedestrian at best (scary!)...i actually had a Different p5 animatic fully thumbnailed before even starting the thumbs for this one but well the thing is that animatic ended up sucking. like it was bad. so this one got bumped up the timeline quite a bit!
another thing about this animatic: everything after the roughs stage was done in procreate dreams! which had its good points (could preview As i drew) and also its bad points (layers are weird, no selection tools, undo is weird, no quick shape (no straight lines) etc.). i couldve waited for updates but nope i did this whole thing in like...3...days? mental illness giveth and it taketh away.
i don't think i'll be over persona any time soon.

Honestly, the 2/2 version of this ending will always hurt the most because of the fact that by this point everyone has decided to stand against Maruki and having newfound resolve thanks to you, Akechi practically BEGS you to fight against him becuase he's done being a puppet and you still decide to go against them and basically betray everyone, just hurts me the most that I had to do the early version just for the completion

hi im coming back to this. this is HEARTBREAKING this is SYMBOLIC this is AMAZING WONDERFUL SHOWSTOPPING. maruki being the mastermind behind it all but he's doing it because he's been so hurt. akiren just wanting his friends to be happy. the part where they're all flashing by him hits HARD and the whole sumire bit is so well drawn, i'm obsessed w the closeup faces. and ugh im going insane over the whole last section, AKECHI'S FACE WHEN HE REALIZES JOKER WANTS TO REWRITE REALITY JUST TO KEEP HIM ALIVE. the heartbreak!!! the anger!!!!! akiren's placid face betraying how bad the decision is!!!!!! akiren taking maruki's place as the "mermaid"!!!!! the way akiren's realization plays out hits me SO HARD w the chorus and the colors and the composition, and the ending is so AAAAUGH bc they look all happy............. i love your style and this animatic and ur mind bc this is like the perfect song and the perfect way to draw it. holy fuck.

This is so freaking perfect. I love this song to begin, but I never thought about how insanely well it pairs with the P5R bad ending. I think I’ve watched this way too much already, but wow it’s just *chef’s kiss.* I will always think of this animatic when I listen to the song now, and I don’t regret that.
The symbolism of the box’s disappearance as a metaphor of the protagonist forgetting his friends when he accepts Maruki’s deal. How he forgets Akechi and Sumire especially. How he discards Sumire’s chance at being herself and Akechi’s wish to stop being a puppet, even if that means he dies. It’s so AUGHJFJSJQLAHH.

i don't normally leave comments but this animatic gave me like 15 new mental illnesses. p5r bad end always makes me particularly insane and youve done the concept such an incredible amount of justice... i LOVE your use of colour here, not just the change to warmer tones (which makes me.. so emo) but throughout too. i love your style; i love how expressive it is (especially the way you draw people), how sharp the lines feel in all the right ways…
ive shown your pedestrian at best animatic to non-persona friends previously and this one to even more of them despite it only coming out like. 3 weeks ago bc i HAD to show people why i was acting so crazed

The way you use colors is just so!!!!! ahhh!!!! I can't. All your Persona 5 videos are so so good, and there is just so much to them. You have such a nice artstyle in general, it's so pleasant to look at. Your choice of songs is always super fitting too, I love it.

@@Bobzora it's always so interesting to hear about other people's art process, because for me it's the opposite, actually! Planning it all out comes kind of easier than cleaning up and coloring everything. I really admire people who can work quickly AND make something meaningful and beautiful, it's really cool!!

The stylization of it, the colours and the composition all works out so well, leaving the whole thing with interesting shapes and just overall great art. You simplify your style well for animatics as well, I was such a huge fan of pedestrian at best, I nearly fell off my chair when I saw this in my recommended omg :0
Not sure if you respond to these, but I was wondering about the software you use to tie in the animation together. Is it an illustration program that just lets you animate too, or do you transfer art into a video editor? I'm trying to get into making animatics but I don't really know how to go about that aha

for pedestrian at best, i drew the frames in procreate (ipad), then exported them and transferred them (via google drive lol) into a separate video editing software (on my laptop. used an old version of vegas i got off humble bundle forever ago specifically, but legit anything will work if you’re not doing anything that fancy! no need to be dropping $ for this kind of thing)
this time, all the work was done in procreate dreams, a very new, slightly wonky, dedicated animation app (ipad only, much like normal procreate). there was no need for additional editing because i could do everything i needed to in there.
as long as you have 1. a drawing app/program and 2. something to edit, though, i don’t think what you use matters That much besides like, quality of life stuff, or if you want to do something fancy with movement or effects or whatever lol.
um… i think my biggest advice re:animatics is just to write out all the lyrics and doodle little thumbnail sketches of what you want to do before you start actually working on the animatic itself. the planning stage is important ^_^ 👍 good luck in whatever you end up doing !

I use clip studio which it has an animation feature but it always looks so complicated to work with and can't make anything more than a gif, hence my question. Makes sense to export things aha
