This song has such meaning, but unlike some (a lot) of Vocaloid songs the meaning is right there and not under a million lyrics to get the message across. The story is quite simple.
Gumi has tried to fit in with other Vocaloids to the point she starts to become them. In being them too much, she forgets herself.
It's refreshingly straightforward yet poignant for a Vocaloid song
To an extent, it also fits Mafuyu Asahina in Project SEKAI.

It’s scary how much almost every single word in this entire song resonates with me. I’ve really lost myself. I got so distracted, I wanted people to like me so badly. It’s all I’ve ever wanted. I try SO HARD to live up to their expectations, or at least how I perceived their expectations. I don’t act like myself. That’ll disappoint them. Mimicking everyone I meet. In a desperate attempt for them to like me, in a desperate attempt for me to like myself. I’ve gotten so caught up in who I WANT to be. Who they would want me to be. I can’t be myself, they wouldn’t like that..but even if I wanted to, it’s too late now. I’ve come so far from who I am, I can’t even remember anymore. I’m not quite who I act like either. I’m stuck in between two things that I’m not fully either of. A middle ground where I stand confused, not completely sure what to do. There’s no going back now.

I think this song is about borderline personality disorder, or at least that's how I interpret it. As someone who has BPD I relate to it. It shows GUMI struggling to have her own personality and instead tried turning herself into her friend in a way. If you loop the song you can see that. It's meant to be a cycle, which means its been happening to her multiple times. Not all people with BPD experience that but its a common symptom. At least thats how I interpret it.
I feel a lot like this but I don't have BPD as far as I know.
Interesting interpretation. I think it more represents her place among the other vocaloids. The other characters, each have their own unique personalities that the songs represent. Gumi on the other hand is the often forgotten and underused vocaloid, to the point where they try to mold her personality based on the others. This is also shown in the video with the mirror, every time she changes into one of the other vocaloids colors, the mirror shows their silhouette.

In GUMI's mirror, the silhouettes of other VOCALOIDs (Miku, MEIKO, Rin, Luka) are reflected and GUMI's facial expressions change according to them. However, when it shows GUMI's own silhouette, GUMI's face is blank, implying that she only copies the personalities of others and lacks one of herself. She may be doing this because she thinks that her significant other likes other people and tries to "mirror" them so her significant other will like her more.

My personal interpretation of the song (And viewing other's opinions about it) is that the song is about the dangers of not expressing yourself just to please others. Having a different personality for each other person so they won't dislike you may seem like a good idea, but please please never do that. You can see that when the mirror was empty and Gumi's nails were green (Green resembling herself), she was missing her face. Pair that with the lyrics "I can't remember who I am", because so many fake personalities will eventually end up in you losing yourself.

I feel like this song is about a girl who makes friends with people, but slowly adapt to their personality and mannerisms, basically becoming almost exactly like them. She can't remember her true personality because she has done this countless times, and always talks different depending on which person she is talking to, or type of person she is talking to. She literally can't remember who she really is, because she now has so many different personalities and acts that are now part of her, letting go of who she once was, and accepted what she has now become. Her "default" personality fades the more she talks to someone. Her old mannerisms for herself are now a blur to her. She feels she has to act like other people to seem more interesting to them.

This is unironically very relatable to me.
I've grown up to only respond to people the way they like it, otherwise I'd be punished or looked at weird. I didn't like that. I lost who I was by following and depending on everyone for almost everything, and nobody bothered to stop me.
I was right to assume, as I was casted aside as soon as I tried being who I wanted to be. I tried following my feelings, my own path, and yet it was harder than I previously thought. If I'm not pleasing someone else, then I'm at home, bored, and unsure of what to do with myself. I feel utterly useless for it. I copied what they wanted, so shouldn't they be happy? Shouldn't they be filled with as much joy as anyone with this kind of advantage? No, no, of course not. I grew apart from someone I considered a best friend and almost fully trusted with my real feelings, but it felt like I lost her when I started being my own person, and I couldn't figure out why. It was so frustrating seeing everyone take to this guy who's a chronic liar, this guy, the one my now ex best friend clung onto for comfort, even though he treated her horribly. Never in my 16yrs of being alive would I have thought of someone picking some horrific guy over me, and yet, I was lying to myself, because of course I knew that would happen. I knew it would happen, not because I'm necessarily bad, but because I was never, and I mean never anyones #1 priority, despite seeing everyone equally as my #1 priority. It hurts so bad that I even gave her a second chance, which was useless, as she tossed me aside again and ignored me when I tried explaining how I had felt over the previous summer, how I cried and missed her, and yet she brushed me off after saying that she 'knew how I felt', and how she was supposedly as sensitive as I am. Lies, all lies. She didn't care, there's no way she did. I was at a loss for words when the realization hit. Yet, I still can't escape this 'copycat' behavior of being what everyone wants, even when it hurts me. All I feel is a lost memory of being locked in a room, desperate to get out, and unsure of how I got there or why. I'll never understand anyone.

(not to mention that this music video bears a really similar concept to deco*27's doll)
please dont treat similarities between unrelated vocaloid songs like a good things, it shows that you are disconnecting the vocaloid from the producer.
vocaloids are instruments. the songs are made by individual people. i would not praise someone as "amazing" for writing very straightforward lyrics that lack consistent meter and tell a romanticized, clichéd stories about having mental illness.
(that being said, i'm not trying to hate on circus-p or harm his feelings, so please don't take it that way. i've listened to his music for many years. i just offer an constructive opinion)

This song reminds me of a manipulative online friend I had. We were just kids at the time (or at least I was, who knows if they truly were or not) and I was easily misled. They basically forced me to roleplay with them every single day for six hours straight for nearly two years, getting mad and "punishing" me if I ever asked for a break. It may not sound like much but I felt horribly trapped and unhappy at the time, constantly wanting out but worrying about what would happen to _them_ if I left. My mom helped me get out of it and probably saved my life. I hope they worried about my like crazy when I got up the courage to completely and utterly ghost them. Hope they looked back on our conversations and finally felt guilt.

Something I noticed in this song: Its a never ending loop.
Put this song on loop to understand. Gumi meets some people, becomes a friend, and changes her actions to match and fit it. She realizes in the last chorus what she has done and abandons them to find herself again, but ends up doing it again with the next friend group. She's in an endless vicious cycle of trying to live up to people's expectations, mainly out of insecurity or peer pressure. She's trying to find someone like her, but can't, so she blends in instead, only to lose herself.
