Just a quick and friendly correction. Otters wrap them selves in KELP. Algae doesn’t grow in strands they can grab onto. Other than that’s awesome video as always and keep them coming!

Someone once told me that owl babies sleep on their stomachs because their head is too heavy to support while sleeping upright! I have no idea if this is true or not, but it is very cute
Same with owlets. Their heads are rather heavy, but the muscles aren't strong enough to sleep in an upright position.
@@marijakrigere3428’Owlet’ is the proper name for baby owls, same thing. They are also called ‘nestlings’.
They have very long legs apparently hidden underneath the feathers. Must be good to get off them.

All these years I've been able to sleep like an owl. Neat.

@@deadby6859 I always sleep like that. My neck constantly hurts. It’s honestly a horrible habit I struggle to breK
I wonder how your neck is can you turn your neck at a 360 angle then?
Are you an *owl*
My neck doesn't hurt from sleeping like that at all. Never gave much thought to it really. I've a hard time getting comfortable and stomach down, arms to my sides, and face halfway in a pillow is legit one of the comfier positions I can get into sometimes. It's like a less contorted Marty McFly position.
Owls sleep like that cause they just don't give a hoot.

Wow, I LOVE this channel!! Am crazy over Barred Owls, have had a nesting pair when I moved to new built home in 2004 until right now! Love their calls, often can call them to come closer near me. BUT, I had no clue about the babies sleeping like that! Lol, it is so funny!!
Who, who cooks for you?
LOL just like horses I used to sleep standing up back when I was in the Navy 40 years ago. I was a boiler technician. When I would stand something called burner watch (it was in the deepest part of the ship, the lowest level) anyway most of the time you were tired as hell and I would actually stand up ,feet spread about shoulders Legnth apart , perfectly balanced to the rocking motion of the ship. Lock my knees and fall into a light sleep. The steel deckplates made alot of noise when someone was walking around on them and you just knew by how loud the noise was if they were walking above you of were on your level. When you heard that certain sound you just opened your eyes and stood there. If it was a chief or someone above you in rank they would walk by you and I would just smile & say hello. The second you heard them walking away you shut your eyes again and repeat if necessary. It wasn't a deep sleep obviously but it helped.alot of guys did it.
The sleeping owl looks like he's just giving up on life.
i know that feeling
I was loughing so hard cause whend I really tired that the way I sleep like I don't feel like wake up again😂🤣😂😂
There needs to be owl memes from this

Wow, I'm always learning something I never thought of like how whales sleep. That was almost mesmerizing so see them under water upright. I do know when I took a river boat cruise, our cabin was under the water line. I slept so good and deep moving underwater except when we went through the locks. But they tried not to do that at night. But, think about it, humans begin as water beings before we are born, so it made sense to me that fetuses must sleep very well, and being under water may have brought that back.
soooo mesmerizing!!! Unfogettable! Influenced me a lot

I feel like the octopus dreams. The constant changing colors are probably coordinating with the things it's seeing in their dream! So cool to think about
It’s probably not the things they are seeing but what they are blending in to in their dream. Like in inception dreams are faster than real life so maybe each time the octopus changes color it could be a new dream or a new part of the dream.
I thought that probably just a camouflage to scare predators.
Shut up nerd. I bet you watch octopus videos every day.

The idea of them having to wake up every 15 minutes to breathe gives me anxiety. Imagine living underwater and being able to drown, those whales are in living hell 😂
@@blitheringrando1410 It doesn't sound so bad to me; I imagine sleeping in the ocean would be tremendously comfortable (if I was a whale) because the temperature would be nice and you're just floating so no waking up with a sore back/neck and even though you do not have the relative safety of your own nest the oceans of the world are staggeringly large and among all the known species in them, very few have the potential to threaten whales.
As for needing oxygen, it's not such a limitation and I would think the risk of accidentally drowning would be slim indeed if you had evolved to sleep that way. I don't know how long whales can hold their breath but I see no reason for them to risk running out of air by waiting until the last moment before going for more, the point being, if they surface every ten to fifteen minutes to breathe I imagine they could go half an hour or more on the same amount of air.
I take a breath about every eight or so seconds but I can comfortably hold my breath for sixty seconds, ninety seconds if I wish but I feel it and longer if I need too. I have no idea but I am guessing whales are the same.
@@dukenukem4447 I love the amount of thought you put into this, surprising from a 90s video game action hero!
The real reason why baby owls sleep on their bellies is because their heads are too heavy for them. Only when they get older, they would be able to sleep like an adult owl.
Chicken chicks sleep like that to for the first few weeks or so.

I wonder if the octopus changes color in its sleepbto stay camouflaged while asleep. It changes like the light dancing along the bottom of the ocean floor. Which makes it blend in more. It could also be dreams, or a combo of both things. 🤔 also, the owls and the otters were wicked cute 😂

J D, you are NOT weird for watching your baby sleep. I love love LOVE
"imagine if you could do that"... There is a long historical track record of soldiers sleep-marching. It gets so beaten in to your head, that you adapt, and you can fall asleep walking. And you'll sleep march straight over a cliff if the road turns.
And thats why military people have so many mental issues
💔
I remember when I was in the army (Finland), and we had a training camp, we went on for a week with about three hours of sleep a night - and often not continuous - we had to stay up for two watches a night, one to watch the fire in the stove that heated the tent, and one outside in a pothole as a guard. (And they would sometimes stage nighttime raids on our position.
During the day we had training, and a lot of marching and going through the forest. The last night we had a four hour night march through the forest in our gear, and I actually was nodding off while marching. I was also hallucinating weird things. I swear I saw a dressing cabinet in the forest, in the middle of nowhere. 😂
After the march, in the morning, we packed into troop transport trucks (generally very uncomfortable), and I slept soundly all the way back to the barracks, crouched on the floor packed in with other soldiers.
It's is not far off I was in the marines and when everyone is in step and tired and walking with gear on it is totally possible to take short naps. Pretty much your body knows what to do subconsciously and you just shut down. Its a lot like falling asleep while driving. You get bored of looking at the pack in front of you and off you go.
@@onewheelisbetterthan2 Was reading about somnambulism, sleepwalking, and apparently you can do anything while you're asleep that you could do while awake.

My cat made a nightmare one time. I was seeing her moving weirdly, I wake her up, she react like her life was in danger. But she get her cool back after a few seconds and purr to me. So yeah, they can make the difference between dream and reality. This is obvious to me.
Yep. The fact that they don't randomly become afraid of otherwise loving human companions says it all. If they can dream, they can have bad dreams. If a cat were unable to distinguish a bad dream where their humans were mean to them, and reality, they would start acting like an abused animal for no reason. Also, purring isn't always contentment. its used mostly for self soothing.
Oh good to know, thanks.

I just recently recorded my shih tzu dreaming & snoring. She woke me up but after I realized what the noise was, I laughed her awake.
I laugh when they bark then waken up and look around as if to say "who was that"! It's funny watch them dream 😂
I’m sure the saying “Let sleeping dogs lie” because some young dogs can become bewildered when transition from dream to wake happens. They are dreaming of chasing or being chased by something, and your 6 year old child suddenly wakes them the dog can sometimes cause damage to you or a child out of pure reflex. The best way to wake a dog is to cook food.
