Mewing isn't actually some new health trend, it is the proper mouth posture, I work in dental office, and we remind children to keep the tongue on the roof of the mouth all the time. Children with inproper tongue posture can devolop problems, and that is known in dentistry. Teeth move untill the day we die, our jaws also adapt to change, ofc drastic fast change can only happen with surgery or in growing children but change does happen to a certain degree at any age. We use certain mouth guards for sleep apnea and the one we make pushes the lower jaw forward, and there have been cases where we had to stop the use because the lowerjaw/teeth had started to change, and the patients are in their 60s at this point. I don't see why mewing wouldn't work, but I would guess in adults the change would require years of consistant active pushing and correct resting. Best thing anyone can do for themself is to learn propel walking technique, keep good spine, shoulder, neck posture and to keep the tongue in the roof of your mouth.

@doing good work If you lie down all day because gravity says so will your body be ok with it? And if your heart wants to get oxygen to the brain should it give up because it goes against gravity? You don't have to listen to gravity all the time. Mouth breathing isn't necessary we are evolved to nose breathe. There are many studies warning against it, and i am a living example. I breathed through my mouth for much of elementary school and it messed up my teeth. My mom paid thousands to get it corrected with braces.
And yes when you have a cold still try to breathe through your nose so that it doesn't block even more. I'm assuming the dryness of the air might reduce extra mucus?

    • @LuisC7
      @LuisC7 Рік тому +2

@doing good work what you said makes no sense at all. Ghe natural resting position of your tongue is on the roof of the mouth, not below. Gravity doesn't have a play here. And you can 100% breathe like this, humans have been like this since forever until recently

I have been doing this my whole life but i didn't know it was called mewing. During my late teens i started seeing significant facial changes for the better and i was pleased just by pressing my tongue to the top of my mouth. From a guy who has been mewing for 1 year here is what I've been through:
1- It's a very slow process but worth it in the end, because mewing becomes part of your daily life and you dont have to think about it everytime you do it.
2- At first its hard to mew properly but once you get the hang of it, its like blinking. Because your tongue is a muscle and after alot of training, you will physically see your whole tongue on the roof of your mouth. It took me about 3 months to perfectly put my whole tongue on the roof of my mouth.
3- My double chin is completely gone, though this doesnt work if you're overweight.
4- Jawline visibility has a slight improvement.

@@johnromanas no, it is for sure mewing. I used to naturally hold my tongue like this. I think most athletes agree if you ask them, that they hold their tongues naturally against the roof of their mouth, without thinking about it.
After I got my wisdom teeth removed, my jaw health degraded. My tongue couldn't find a comfortable position anymore and my jaw line fell apart.
After trying mewing for only a few days, my tongue basically feels almost back to normal again.
And in order to mew, it causes u to flex your throat muscles. It's basically mind- muscle connection for the tongue and throat. And mind- muscle connection is a known thing in the gym scene. If you can feel your muscles, you generally will start to see them improve.

I think 30 days is probably not long enough for a process like this. The idea our jaws/faces would develop differently if we were eating what we evolved to eat (and that we're more hardwired to be attracted to that) seems likely but also I think it's hard to say if it's even possible to change the way your face has formed into adulthood without some sort of more invasive surgery.

The thing is that I wonder if research might get hindered or held back for monetary gain... What do you think?🤔
Either way, I read a paper about a travelling Dr. that compared teeth and eating habits between people in western countries and indigenous tribes all over the world. I was shocked that he consistently found strong straight teeth in almost all of the indigenous people compared to us westerners, so there might be a lot to it.
I'm certainly convinced there's a lot more than what meets the eye when it comes to the craniofacial area, and many are too quick to dismiss what doesn't align with the status quo, even if it can contribute to medical progress.

    I started Mewing at 47.
First 5 months, basically no change. Noticed a slight improvement in breathing through my nose around month six.
Next 1.5 years. Flossing slowly became easier. I used to sometimes snap the floss as my teeth were so tight together. Nowadays, only two spots require much force. I also only floss a few times a year as over flossing leads to gum loss.
Year 2.5, started to finally notice visible changes in my facial features with women starting to check me out a tad more than usual.
Year 3.5, breathing through my nose is easy peasy, jaw and cheeks slightly more defined than a year ago.
Highly recommend that people start young. Still very possible when older, but gains will be slower.

I might be wrong, but as far as I know your jawline is defined by your bone structure. You can't create bone by mewing. It might help nasal breathing, as he points out, but you're not making bone - correcting your tongue posture you're making a better airway for breathing.
I am no scientist but I still believe that any "major changes" that come from mewing are anecdotal. I think that while your tongue resting on your palate is good posture in general, I don't think that you're going to change anything about your jaw.
By exercising and eating properly you could lower your body fat level and thus show more of your jawline because at higher body fat levels it's covered by fat. It's there, it's just hidden.

Yes and no. Forcing of the tongue to the roof of your mouth means you have to breathe through your nose. That’s all there is to it really. The first year of it was failing to keep form of my tongue correctly all day/night and then sometimes just forgetting for weeks and weeks. Maybe the second year I’ve caught myself so many times that I think mewing is now my normal/default tongue posture. Have I noticed a difference? I’m not gonna fully trust mind here but I think I have. I’m not gonna go around on UA-cam saying it’s full proof but I’ve always had a round face and a weak chin. When I was 13 I started mewing and stayed with it for a few months, I didn't notice much change beyond typical puberty; however, 4 years later, breathing through my nose and good facial posture has seemingly done two things. #1: my bottom front teeth aligned themselves (weren't severe to begin with but fixed themselves) #2: My chin has moved forward significantly to a pretty desirable location; previously I had a very recessed chin and overall weak jaw/jawline.

The tongue position in mewing is exactly the tongue position you use when meditating. It's the best resting position for your tongue and it helps reducing anxiety. I don't know it can shape four facial structure or not, but at least it's harmless and even beneficial for your mood & mental health.
PS: when meditating you also should tuck your chin in (and keep your back straight) to ease your breathing. But don't overdo it and also don't strain (that also goes with the tongue, never strain).

I'm very confident your nasal breathing improved since you improved your lungs. Similar to any action that requires lung usage, such as holding your breath or swimming, cycling, or running, as examples. I am very certain that this is the case because I cycled great distances at fast average speeds of 20 mph+ for 4-8 hours per session for several years. I played a lot of video games and remained immobile for much of the day, which caused me to have trouble breathing out of my nose. I started cycling and everything improved: no more sleep apnea, no more depression, more confidence, and so on. All of those negative things returned after I stopped cycling, so exercise if you want to improve your health and do it safely so you can keep doing it.

I discovered that "Letting go of having any expectations from anyone" heals your depression, compulsive habits, or any habits, ADHD, anxiety, phobias, anger, insomnia, etc that had majority of impacts in life. When and where to expect plays a role.
    1. Expect only if you have been said so
    2. Expect only if you have multiple experiences that what you expect will occur
    3. Expect only when it's obivious or you already have gained a knowledge through some source
Don't expect when having no info or having no research done.
The major focus should be on your self freedom and freedom of other. That means you don't control them or let you be controlled by them. To do that, take any order, task or anything said by them as their opinion. They said something to you and then they expect you to do so, but you have whole reason to decide if you would like to follow it through to what that want or just you can totally ignore it depending on whatever the task is. Except important task. That's need to be done.
Absolutely do not judge anyone by expecting as if they are like this or that, or they mean this or that, or any other way. Just pay attention to their action. That is all that is occuring. They expected something or are expecting something to happen through their action by interacting with you. This can be any action as just talking to picking a fight with you.
Major cause of all the problem is that we humans have a bad habit that we nurture of expecting while no one teaches to control how much to expect. We usually call it "You think a lot and worry" and gave many names one of which is anxiety. It's not that but instead its just a lack control of emotions and expectations.
Judge good or bad by how your said expectations are met. If a person said they will do it but did not then it's bad, if done partially then its should be treated as neutral. Of course you will start to trust and like the person who meets all your expectations ;)
Major role is to have focus to keep your thoughts and emotions controlled by expecting less.
As when expectations are not met, it leads to disappointments and too many disappointments could lead to depression or anger issues hence creating a cycle of misery.

I would also love to see some good mewing studies. I’ve listened to some of Mike Mew’s videos, and he’s started that he’s met a lot of resistance in trying to set up studies. Also, based on his hypothesis, a fully grown person would not see much, if any, change in facial features. Especially over so short a time. These practices are designed to aid the developing face to develop in a certain way, which he believes to be beneficial. He’s got good reasoning behind his assertions, but good reasoning doesn’t equal fact. Conversely, a lack of evidence is not evidence of falsehood. I also tried Mewing, and I was pleasantly surprised that after a week, my incredibly uneven bite improved dramatically.

I started it about 4-6 months ago, and my face went from somewhat chubby to having a much more defined jawline.
I'm 19, so still young enough for it to make fairly drastic changes.
Note that at around 15-17, your face becomes more set-in-stone, so to speak, and as you age from there, changing the shape of it becomes much harder by natural means.
That's not saying it doesn't work for adults, it simply means it might take 2-3 times as long for noticeable changes. It varies from person to person based on how active you are as well.

(I also say t, le, ne, de without moving my mouth and swallow without moving my mouth and yes, people often mistake me for being a professor and no doubt, it's not just my vocabulary that makes people think I'm smart. It's diction.) What I find interesting when I purposefully press my tongue up against the roof of my mouth (lips closed, teeth lightly touching, and tongue resting on the roof of my mouth is my norm), I get sinus draining--happens within 30 seconds.and so I can see why you are breathing better.
