Yabba Dabba Doo!!!! Kim Wayans parody was hilarious 😂 lol 😆 I still watch it till this day!
Ha Ha Heeee, HaHaHa😂😂 I just watched it again last week!
It was mostly funny, but when they suggested Crystal was untalented it went too far.
@@GregOrCreg They weren't afraid to spoof Mike Tyson.... everyone could get it, that's why it was so funny.
@@DeeTruth415 Mike deserved it. He's a POS.
@@DeeTruth415Facts it’s hilarious just like the Michael Jackson parody black or white 😂
Kim Wayans spoof will go down in history still watching in 2024
Mee too! 😂
I'm glad shes laughing about the parody today. She got the last laugh, Crystal's song made millions.
That was the point of the parody. Numb nutz! "I be rich you be poor!"😂
@@CrackHeadHuntersDopeman You could have made your point without being such a dick about it.
Absolutely loved "Gypsy Woman" and 100%, partied at the club with these songs many a night.
Was the parody quoted during these nights?
@@EFunkRock I have no idea, I never saw the episode.
The tune is timeless, so timeless. And so is the parody!
TRUTH! I'm glad Crystal is laughing about it now! 😂❤
I'm glad that she can laugh at it now, because it's still hilarious in 2023😂😂😂
Parody is the ultimate form of flattery. People loved that Song 🎧 🎵🎶🎵 Timeless Classic Now!
Gypsy Woman is one of my favorite songs! I live in NYC and I still hear this song being played all the time
I’m thankful that house music never left the uk 🇬🇧 it’s still thriving to this day. I still hear ‘gypsy woman’ either the original version, or sampled by other artists.
I see that. Watching a Netflix show. Modern-day kids listening to Snap.
I’ll never forget seeing the 100% pure love video on mtv when it was new and being absolutely mind blown - it still gets me today
My ABSOLUTE favorite Crystal Waters song! 😊😊😊
Crystal's pen game is mean!!! I've been loving 100% Pure Love for 30 years! ❤
Club music was so huge in the 90s!
I use to play Gypsy woman back to back! I love it and I always received the message. I always wonder how Crystal Waters felt about the in living color song
I love Crystal Waters music!! I wish I was around for this era with these icons house music, disco, funk, and rock and roll.
It was such a beautiful era, I'm so happy I was around for it, a time was had😂😂😂😂
@@TheEsquireofSports.2.0 I do too 😁
Move to Denver Colorado 96 and discovered every top 20 single sound song in existence has a house version
Proud to say I’ve got the original on vinyl & I still hear it in clubs and bars. So many younger people love it now
🎵🎶”Scooby-Doo! Where are you?”….”I be rich, you be poor”….lmao🤣
Liked and Shared. Great Interview!!
She made a house music song about someone homeless #Ironic
Upvoted because I made the same joke on another thread. Great minds think alike.
The spoof was hilarious and I always liked Crystal Waters music. Win win.
Great interview ❤❤❤
Thank you !!!
Love this woman made possibly my favorite song of all time
Well some DJs knew how to be smart when hip hop came. They combined hip hop and house music and made songs like “The Power” (Snap!), “Gonna Make You Sweat” (Martha Wash / C+C Music Factory), etc
I LOVED EVERY SONG SHE MADE!!!! I I USED TO TEAR THE CLUB UP TO HER SHIT.
When she's talking about the house scene in Europe, Belgium was 90's place to be, this track was huge!
That's when people used to actually dance too back then, chiiiilllllleeeeeeee a time was had🤣🤣🤣
100 percent pure love was just hitting the clubs when I moved to New York.
It was a dis that backfired. That song got more popular and far more respected.
It’s far from a mindless song and probably helped shine light on the homeless.
It’s actually a masterpiece!
Serious songwriters and record companies beg for a song that has that kind of impact.
Simple songs that anyone can sing are the hardest songs to write.
Complicated is easy. Most people overwrite.
The team that put out that song knew it was a monster.
Still is.
I’m bout to stream her album I don’t think I listen to it in entirety
I never understood the time that pass between the first single and second single when both songs appear on the album
I still love that woman.
I do legit love her music work and am so glad she's still producing new EDM hits. It just seems that more people saw the annoying video and assumed that was the actual song. Either way, the spoof on In Living Color is a hoot. Glad she can guffaw about it now.
i still listen to gypsy woman and other songs by crystal waters such as making happy
I wouldve felt good, if I was spoofed 😂 but they didn’t understand the concept back then.
Best song parody ever
He couldn't help but laugh because it was so funny
I don't think they were putting her down because if they were then that much thought wouldn't be put into the parody. Especially since it predicted the times we would live in today.
Everytime I think Crystal Waters I think destination Calabria by Alex Gaudino
Please tell her she is big in South Africa.
I watched it a million times😂
Amen.....we stand on the shoulders of Giants...of those men and women that allowed me to marry my husband ......words can never say how grateful to them
Living Color bodied careers in 90 seconds
Really great questions..and of course Crystal always on everyones heart....
She is a music Icon Vegan Chef KESS
Yes I agree people use to put being gay with house music and rap was different back then.
Re: Gypsy Woman..Cashing in on the indigent and disenfranchised earns no cudos, and originally struck me as exploitative. The Spoof beat her at her own game. Spare us the seriousness
❤❤❤
House music Came From The Underground got snatched up by the mainstream and was not appreciated anymore it still has a beat and our heart but once mainstream touched it screwed it all over... Hip-house was such a joke to me
Belgian house scene was something else
I think it had less to do with hip hop's popularity and more to do with the fact that the radio stations nationwide were bought out by 2 or 3 corporations whose main purpose were to sell ad buys... house music is usually not radio friendly but if a song does break through they'd do a radio mix, problem was these new stations didn't support latenight mixshows (ad buys again) so songs had a harder time being exposed to break through... on top of a nationwide playlist, the playlist itself were extremely limiting... you can than republicans (and bill clinton the palatable republican) for the weakening of our anti-trust laws that would curtail these corporate buy outs that ALWAYS end up destroying it's own means of profit...
Gypsy Woman was great. I didn't get the Living Colour spoof at all. Seemed like the writer(s) of the skit missed the whole point of the song
Gypsy Woman has stood the test of time
Its a shame house music was just being associated with being gay when house in all essence is black music
Exactly!
Well that’s because the gay community embraced it whereas others kinda rejected it.
To be fair to Crystal, the In Living Color parody was particularly cruel in putting Crystal down. It wasn't just a play on the words, but there were lines implying she had no talent and anyone like her could write a song by looking at cartoons and coming up with words. And that it was funny that she became successful as if she was pulling one on the audience.
Oh yeah! It was so insulting to Crystal. They did parodies of Michael Bolton, Paula Abdul and MC Hammer that were also pretty mean. Even though I thought all those skits were hysterical, I totally understand why Crystal felt hurt.
Right and even said she thinks she's ugly
@@joeb267382Right. And let's not forget what they did to Shabba Ranks
Omg! Grow up. They spoofed everything. Most take it as a badge of honor.
👑💛
❤
Imitation is a form of flattery.
Poetic Justic...Perfect Karma, because it seems that many people that were made fun of on In Living Color are still workin and pluggin while the show itself is a memory!!!😊
You sound mad, Twan.😆😅😅🤣🤣😂😂
When was the last time you bought an album by Snow or Shabba Ranks...or Crystal Waters?
Thanks to the internet, I stopped buying albums loooooong time ago.
Haha hee , haha ha 😅😅😅
Damn house came out of hip hop the 1st house song was "girl ill house you" by the jungle brothers who were hip hop. Hip hop made then broke & killed house. Self consuming art.
Dont you dare take away freedom of speech and a joke! Yabba Dabba Doo
😂
100%, Gypsy Woman and let’s not forget the other absolute banger “In De Ghetto”
I'll be rich and you be po ... xD
stop it. you were not thinking about homeless people. not one time did you go to a conference on homelessness or make a contribution to a homeless shelter. the only thing people hear is a beat and some gibberish.
You don’t have to pay on a parody of a song. No clearance needed. Weird Al ask the artist to be nice.
Lol she got offended?
Yes, because she thought it was going to throw ice water on her record sales, the spoof made the song bigger
And I bet she gave all the money she made to the homeless girl who inspired her to push the play button on the Dr. Rhythm and caterwaul on top of it.
The parody sucked lol
The parody was funny. The original song was trash
Disagree with this take
@@alexandergrandeI’m with you on this.
sorry, but you just don't get it.
and you're don't get it romulus
AND!!!!...look I love Ms. Crystal Waters..seen her live etc....BUT there were at least 2 before Crystal in that realm that can actually sing their asses off....Robin S AND Kim English...they busted out that house/gospel genre before anyone ever heard of Crystal.....just saying...neither one of them lip sync their way through..
It makes me love the original more!
Gypsy Woman is an evergreen with a profound message. Crystal with this beautiful name of course you were and still are ahead of your time. Still gorgeous, shining. Thank you for this great informative interview
Profound Message? Are you for real? 😂 ITS a great Classic production but the Lyrics were pretty weak.
@@GregorioStyreco The lyrics are simple but memorable, and simple doesn't necessarily mean 'weak' or 'shallow'. There is some underlying meaning to this song.
@@GregorioStyrecoHey!!! There are people who don't want to work who are victims of their on lazyness. They're Homeless!!!
I didn't know her kids got bullied for that spoof video!😢
I like pop culture comedy and pretty much everyone in the public eye can and should be a subject of ridicule, but when that In Living Color sketch suggested she was 'untalented' they went way too far.
You can mock a great song for being idiosyncratic and offbeat, but don't say it's 'bad' (which Gypsy Woman certainly isn't).
All beef patties special sauce
I have ALWAYS loved this song..gypsy womans
This interview was excellent! Very informative.
Very good interview, asked some good questions. I initially watched this to hear about her reaction to the In Living Color parody
Dance music is not about words but beat
I mean, Vanilla got it worst
Because he deserved it. He really was shit. Plus, he lied about his roots, and he ended up playing a New Years Eve gig for the Trump family, just after the Orange One lost the 2020 election.
The Vanilla Ice parody by Jim Carrey was pure comedic gold! I remember laughing so hard when I watched it. No one was safe!
Crystal Waters is a GOAT
lol
Regarding the spoof, at least social media didn't exist back then. It would have been waayy worse for her kids.
But yeah, I didn't agree with the way they did the spoof.
The song is awesome and catchy. Shout out to Crystal Waters for making an awesome 90s house jam💞
the parody was 100% funny - the original song was 100% lame (yeah, i said it)
You're lame. Yeah, I said it.
I literally only know Gypsy Woman because of the parody, it got stuck in my head so i had to go buy the cd. I dont think anyone of my friends would have ever given that song, or that genre of music a chance if it hadnt been for that parody.
