Same man, had one with 6" lift and ran the beach and dune bowls in NE Fl.! Man, grad. high school In 78' and seeing this brought back a sweet fog of memories with my CJ5. Great ride; and in 4x4 that little 4bbl v8 would flat out sound off through my headers and Cherry Bombs, dig in and scoot thru the first two gears and you were done, on the 100' sand drags! Had a Golden Eagle truck later, but that's another story!
I ordered my 76 CJ7 in March 1976. I wanted the hardtop for it and the Jeep the color blue. 6 weeks later it arrived. My biggest mistake was I chose the 3-speed. The had a recall because the 3-seed would leek oil into the transfer case and goodbye 3-speed and hello T-18 4-speed. I put 250,000 miles on that 4-speed and never had any problems. I always at 50 mph on paved roads, I'd get 14.9 miles to the gal. I was able to take 4 weeks on average every year camping and I don't know of many dirt roads in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and some in Nevada and Montana that I ever drove past. Seen so many mind blowing acts of nature. Run into older men come over and say, love your jeep but "Why did I get rid of my jeep".

Hey Rick. Incredible Work. Just started looking up info on these bc my Wife’s Grandfather Just gave us his 1973 CJ5 yesterday. He was the Original Owner. He lives in Florida so we had it shipped to us in Pa. The Jeep is Great Condition. Not a tear or hardly any wear on the Original Seats. He always had them Covered. He had it stored in his Garage with a Cover on it since 1982. It hasn’t ran since then. He never even started it up so I have to go through the whole Engine. Hopefully it is just a Battery. Haha. Anyway, Not sure if we will sell it or Keep it. Still drooling over it. Don’t sell your Jeep again. Bad Ass !!!!!

It's so odd: every person that I've talked to who had a CJ almost immediately regretted selling it. I actually have a 1981 CJ-5 that my dad and I are restoring and trust me, we do not intend on selling it at all!

Thank you Gordon. It has a 3 inch body, 3 inch suspension lift to clear the 35s easy. In any other jeep or vehicle I would not recommend a 3" body lift though because the CJ is so exposed regularly, you cannot tell it has a body lift. The exposed chassis almost looks like its meant to be like that from factory.

How tall are you? Driving my friemds cj5 my shins hit the "dash" and it looks like you fit perfect. Did you mod the seats and put them further back or lower? Its the only thing holding me back from getting a cj.

I have a 84 scrambler now but when I bought this same jeep when I was 17 it was a awesome jeep and I regret getting rid of it

if that was my jeep i would fix the minor rust spots (super easy) and i would lower just a little bit and put smaller tires maybe 35 inch tires

I have an 1981 CJ-5 and the rear view mirror is glued to the glass. Is the bolt on frame mirror original or do you know who makes it?
