Thanks for the tip. Also, that filler trick is interesting. I'm always having to extend the timeline by moving some random clip past the end point and keeping it there until I need to extend it again.
Yep, that's exactly why I do it! There's a number of different "tricks" like putting an Add Edit on a blank part of the track then rolling it out to the end of the timeline or putting a title or random clip. I like the filler track because it looks cleaner IMO. You just have to be careful not to export it on accident. Thanks for watching!
Thanks! Great Video! I was wondering if you have for example 2 scenes behind each other and they both have a different music track which is on A3-A4. This would mean that if you unlock the tracks A3-A4 and so the music of the first scene, that the music of the second scene would also run out of sync. Do you need to put the music for the next scenes on different audio tracks so it stays in sync?
Read this comment last night and I'm still trying to wrap my head around it but I'm pretty sure that yes that would work. So you'd move scene #2's music to A5 and A6 and leave those tracks LOCKED. Edit scene 1 with A3 and A4 unlocked. Pretty certain that would work. Only one way to find out though! Happy New Year, Frank. 🍻
Nice video! Does avid media composer has a integrated DVD authoring in the AMC time line or via export to third party software. Like creating menus and such. Thanks
Thanks, Ramesh! Avid used to have a separate program called "Avid DVD by Sonic" (or something like that). It was clunky but it got the job done. However it got discontinued a few years ago if I recall correctly. I know nowadays some people figure out how to get their hands on Adobe Encore CS6 in order to make DVDs. I don't think there's a really good, easy solution though.
Thanks Jash, for such a lovely trick and shortcut tutorial, side by side u are explaining which is very good. could you make a tutorial on hows to work with 2K and 4K video? like hows to convert it? in Premiere its easy, Regards
Hi Jami! I would make a tutorial but I don't typically work in 2K or 4K in Media Composer - I'm only ever in 4K in Premiere. So I actually don't know a good workflow for this in Media Composer 😳. Thanks for watching! - Josh
Very good explanation of a super helpful tip! This shows it very clearly and calmly what you're doing. Thanks!
You're welcome, Grace! Thanks for the kind words. Happy I was able to help you.

Thanks for the video. If I understand well, this function is very rarely used. Any idea why they made it always visible, unlike say waveforms?
