LOL Absolutely. My fave set up is 1 mixer + 2 turntables. = mix & blend nice. The majority of DJ jobs & audiences don't want to hear the extra mess. Good stuff Keo.

ufff....i only use filter, echo, delay, reverb and cues :D... loop are usefull and a couple of rolls. thats it. Totally overload with features. But i think, to push the "technic" further, its "fun" to incorporate some crazy stuff. But nobody does that normaly at Partys :). You do that crazy stuff in a couple of songs, but not everytime. The people dont dance with to much crazy stuff :D .... buying the last controller its like buying the last cellphone. :D

As of right now. I use 100% of the buttons on my S4 MK3, but I've customized them to my needs in custom mappings. However, I don't use more then probably 40% of what's possible in Traktor. Loops and effects are mostly what I need and easy access to both of those.
I agree completely with there being too many buttons and features for most DJ's. At the same time though, I would prefer to have it and not need it then need it and not have it. As every DJ's needs are different. Me personally, just give me customizable pad modes that I can modify to my needs. Some DJ's want samplers, some want slicer, some want loop rolls. We don't all need them. Just let us choose.
As a fan of custom mapping my gear. All I want is to pick what my pad modes are and what the pads do.

60 - 70 % of the features on a controller I don't use. I think the main issue is that Dj's like the new shinny whistle. love to have the option but at the end of the day how many of us use them regularly enough to equal the cost of these new toys. continue da content...

    Yes we are being overwhelmed
But the digital world has unlocked so many possibilities that they cannot stop experimenting. DJ's are getting this stuff just for the sake of it . Keo your right on do many levels. And I still want one to do the same thing that I've been doing for 30 plus years . It's just crazy. This useless crave

Regarding feature overload, I absolutely agree that most of these controllers and mixers have way too much going on. I mix two media players into a Xone 23c which is super minimal. I use the VCF filter a lot and occasionally run a delay through the send and return loop, but the meat and potatoes of my mixing is all EQ work and filters.
I don't knock other dj's for using tons of effects, but I largely just like to the music to speak for itself. People underestimate what you can accomplish with good EQ work.

What I want is more models from this line.
A "REV3" would be exactly like the REV1, just add the motorized jogs (without any screens on them) and those blue "Instant Scratch" buttons. Performance pads continue to be non-RGB.
A "REV5" would then add screens to the motorized jogs, RGB to performance pads, the little FX display thing in the middle, and those buttons below the jogs related to the jog wheel screen.
REV7 of course stays the same and adds the rest of the bells and whistles.
Or just a "REV4": basically a REV1 with motorized jogs without screens, Instant Scratch buttons, crossfader settings, and RGB pads.
As a proud REV1 user, by God, I would eat the shit out of this hypothetical REV3 or REV4.

I think the beginner/intermediate controller market being as strong as it is shows that most of the “pro” features are luxuries. They are nice to haves. Many will use a couple pro features regularly but hardly no one will use all.

I'm old school mixing DJ that learned on a bare bones Numark DM-1650 mixer. A good phono/line toggle switch was the only feature we wanted in a mixer to transform. lol But, I'm now a kid in a candy store now that I have an S7 and using the filter knob, echo, hot cues, loop, and FX levers. I definitely appreciate all the features to play with when practicing. Would I use them all in a gig, no way, can't remember how to use them. :P Plus, the audience (let alone my wife) doesn't want to hear me geeking out with the buttons and knobs.

Screens in the jog wheels are awesome. No idea why this wasn't already in the ddj-800 and ddj-1000 since they already had screens with the larger waveform etc.

Great video for discussion! I was actually looking to see if you had posted any thought about the Rev-7 leading up to the launch when the DJ community was in an uproar about the buzz. Like you, I mostly remix and blend songs using filters and very little Fx, mainly a few echo effects.
You mentioned that you don't use Scratch Bank. You should really rethink the possibilities of using it. I don't use it for scratching, but it's a beast for remixing. Find a nice acapella, then find 4 beats that blend well with it. Go ahead and set the pitch for each beat and record it at that setting long enough to loop it. Put each beat on a scratch bank pad and set the pad to loop when hit. Now you can put the pitch at zero and switch beats to the acapella without a hiccup. I record remixes and put them back into my DJ crates and they're ready to go! Sorry for the long post, just trying to describe how I use SB. Cheers!

I prob only use 50% of the features on my S11. But I'll tell you what - for me the biggest selling point of the Rev7 aren't the bells and whistles - for me it's about the sound. The soundcard on the Rev7 is supposed to be better than the 900nsx2.

I dont watch half the channels on Sky TV but i dont complain about them
Maybe try to incorporate the extra bells & whistles rather than moaning that they’re their considering there’s no law says you have to use them
Yes I own Rev 7 and LOVE it!

Im glad you like it but my point flew over your head nobody is moaning or complaining I literally said NOT to remove any new buttons or features. I am asking are djs utilizing the most out of the gear we buy it was a open question.

I'm kinda confused brotha cause I use all the buttons. Pads for cueing, insta song load and samples etc, toggles for effects and any other buttons I don't use get midi mapped for my own personal functions. So again, I use em all.

What you're saying about an overabundance of features is so true. While I respect the hell out of Denon and all the features their hardware offers; who's gonna possibly use the systems to their full potential? That aside, I will pray to the DJ gods for Pioneer to release a motorized platter CDJ like the SC6000m🙏🏽

Dude, you sound like you are afraid of the new tech coming out for DJs. Even though I started DJing late in life, I was in the era of 2 turntables and a mixer and that's it. I bet if you ask the major players in our industry that question, they would say they are not doing enough. There is a saying: "You rather have and don't need it than need it and don't have it." I personally don't have an issue with the new gear, my issue is the timing. Some DJs are not out on gigs like before and others are trying to make up for the 2-year setback. I am certain they don't have the funds to purchase any new gear. What's worse there is still supply storage and backlogs so even if you order, it will take weeks or months before you get it. Since I didn't learn how to DJ using turntables, the Rev7 would not be the ideal gear for me. I am certain battle-stlye DJs and those who want that turntable feel will love it. As long as have the funds and don't mind the wait.

I think you misunderstood my point of the video I'm not anti new features or technology I love all this stuff I'm asking the question to djs about how they feel on the subject. I don't know how clear I was but I was asking how much do you use this new stuff or do you fall back into the basics. Every dj is different this isn't one of those purist channels looking down on DJs I'm posing the question to you.
