Yo KP, I think there are actually 3 categories of hip hop vocalists: Rapper (recites rhymes), Lyricist (intertwines cadence & wordplay with subject matter), EmCee (a master of ceremony who is able to control the crowd with showmanship, energy, personality and charisma). For example, most of the current artists are rappers, Doug E Fresh is a true emcee, Kool G Rap and Rakim are lyricists, KRS and BDK are elite hybrids of all 3.
1:10:32 im not even a Lil Wayne guy but he’s definitely an emcee. He bodies all Griselda features and as a technical rapper, he has the tools and he’s no slouch on that mic, even if I don’t listen to his music.
Yeah, i'm a UK turntablist/ scratch dj (what ever you want to call it) plugged into the scene since the mid to late 90s and i can confirm that some prominent djs have claimed they did cuts that were done by someone else on tracks. Happened to my friend, the dj came in and listen to the temporary cuts laid down and just said it was fine and left.
4:31 Me and the boys around my way that came over my crib or my aunt house would watch the Jukebox channel all night. They had way not than 30 videos but I will say the same 30 hip hop videos would got ordered a lot. But there were a few videos that didn’t come on MTV Raps or Rap City. Funny thing is being from Philly we didn’t get Ralph McDaniels so when I heard rappers talk about the Box I always thought it was the Jukebox channel because later on they did actually change the name to The Box them much later MTV 2. Unfortunately we didn’t get the legendary Video Music Box.
From Wikipedia: The Box, originally named the Video Jukebox Network, was an American broadcast, cable and satellite television network that operated from 1985 to 2001.
Had to do my civic duties Tuesday night, missed the live. Good to cee all the regulars in the chat. Few months ago, bumping that track "Breath Control" in my vehicle, which I been listening to since the early 90s, it dawned on me that digidy Das sampled that...💡it is surprising that you of all people just figured that out...Lil Wayne is that one radio rapper in my opinion who displays barsmithing that is on par with my best 11 Emcees of all time list..couldn't say the same about jay z...Peace to one of my teachers in the astral plane, Cus D'Amato!
16:16 When are the Awesome Two coming through, they used to make the "custom mix" on WHBI, with Donald D/B which was the most craziest mixes ever, definitely want to hear them build on that. Peace.
50:00 you ain’t getting no Chronic out of Dre & Snoop. If we did I’d be pleasantly surprised but even if they did make something together it won’t be 1993 but I sure hope I’m wrong. Common & Pete got a better shot for me. Another week I miss the live and make multiple comments. SMH.
Acceptable percentage is 100% not counting some quote from another song like "I'm trying not to loose my head". UNLESS, you are making the song in collaboration with another artist and it's the point of the song to repeat what the other said or do back to back like "why don't you say this after me".
I couldn't make the live due to work, but I was here in spirit 💪🏿
🔥Chill Rob G definitely needs some recognition. He is sooo slept on.
Facts!
Great Episode. Looking forward for the Red Alert interview!💪

"The Box" music television you control....
We In There on Yo! was fire.
42:27 it was initially called “The Jukebox Network” then “The Box” then “MTV2” later on.

Since LL Cool J wrote “Can You Rock It Like This” could anyone deem Run DMC as wack or unofficial? I think not!
'Go, Cut Creator, Go' was Bobcat, not Cut Creator- I saw them perform it in '87
99.9 percent and 1 percent producer 😂
Video jukebox was on HBO
@1:19:56 “Yo, there go my man…” 🤣😂🤣 Kenny Parker is the best part of Tuesdays!!!

Essays on BDPisms didn’t fit By all means necessary, simple
