Someone should kick the crap out of Leslie. He never paid for allowing Elliot to spend 18 years in prison when he knew Elliot was innocent. He tried to blackmail Connie regarding Allison's birth. He blackmailed Betty with the Blaine report. He contracted for Martin Peyton's murder. Yet, he never suffered any consequences for any of it.
If Susan Oliver ('Ann Howard') had been allowed to fulfill her original 12 month contract -- instead of unceremoniously being booted after just three months [49 half hours] -- she might have been Mrs. Ann Rossi, the good doctor's bride. [Between the "Peyton Place" series book and the Susan Oliver 60-minute bio on DVD there's nary an explanation for her dismissal -- other than it was NOT of her choosing.]
Well we all know MP is a conniving skeemer and royal master puppeteer, but to see him spiral down into THIS despicable character is quite a plot twist!
Two dead bodies in the same house within two days ... and the police are perfectly satisfied that nothing is amiss. Tells you all you need to know, doesn't it?
Lee Webber's fate, a first glance seems terribly unjust. But his vindictive, violent abuse of his wife, his brother, and the persecution and finally the murder of Ann Howard shows it was a fitting if pathetic demise. Martin Peyton is merely the facillator that goads, suggests, and tempts those around him. And more often than not, he's correct in his estimation of the darker natures of Peyton Place's other characters who believe they are "morally superior" yet only need the surface to be scratched to reveal their own "sins".
It's very enjoyable to discuss a fine series. To tell the truth, I cannot see Lee admitting his guilt to Martin Peyton. Or anyone. Nor does he proclaim his innocence to him either. And, as you say, he was quite coldly capable of murdering Leslie Harrington for the sole purpose to curry more favour with Peyton. Remember too, his intent on pushing Chris off the bluff was to kill him. Not to blind him and he had no problem intimidating the other children into saying it was Ann that did the deed. He was furious as he rode on his motorbike to Dr. Rossi's house as he just had broken with his brother because of Ann. His heaving drinking as he was cycling to Rossi's when Allison sees him toss the empty liquor bottle. He went there to kill Ann as the time for any more threats toward her were now over. (Hannah says he was behaving wildly. No doubt he was enraged and half drunk.) Also later, when he's out on bail, his menacing remarks to Allison and her safety, just before she leaves Peyton Place, shows he's chillingly dangerous. And I believe Hannah. She fessed up to everything. Why should she lie now? She may be many things but she is not a murderess nor do I think she would falsely accuse Lee. Circumstantial, yes. But that can often be enough. I think what finally convinced me was Lee's look when Hannah blurts out that she saw Ann on the bluff in Episode 293. It speaks volumes. (Can you tell I followed this series religiously?) Cheers!
everyone believed Lee killed Ann - but b4 he died, he didn't admit it..instead he went on about how Martin ''still thinks'' he killed Ann, but admitted to nothing, as Adrienne admitted she lied about Steven b4 taking that specious fall down those stairs......
Yes, you are correct when Lee uses the word, "thinks" but that doesn't automatically mean he didn't kill Ann. His hatred of Ann is still there in his final resentful words to Peyton. One would think if he were innocent he would have howled at Peyton for this horrible injustice and stated his innocence. But instead, he snarls and rages and once again, it's violence, and in this case murder, will be the way to solve the issue. Murder...like he almost accomplished with his brother, to Ann, and perhaps to Allison if she had stayed in Peyton Place to testify against him. And let's not forget Leslie Harrington who he would have murdered at Peyton's whim. Leslie, who had really done nothing to Lee at all. Why would he not kill Ann? She was more of a threat to him than the others combined. Lee's character is fueled by violence from start to his sad end. Adrienne Van Leyden was in a different class than Lee. She wasn't a typically violent woman and she confessed to Betty more to hurt and humiliate her for her self-righteous behaviour in doubting Steven's fidelity than anything else. I think she fell down the stairs when she went to strike Betty demanding that Steven Cord was hers. Peyton Place often left things dangling. Its habit of leaving loose ends made it more interesting. It was superb for a time.
He never killed Ann or was anywhere near her when she died. It was an accident. Watch that episode again when she is on the edge of the cliff. The ground was coming out from beneath her. It was likely an accident.
Poor Lee Weber! Hate to ser him go. He was good to look at😂❤ I don't think he killed Ann..I think it was Hannah..maybe not..but Definitely not Lee..he finally felt that he belonged..such a conniving sad end ! Martin Peyton has to be the meanest character on t ...at the time!
Looks like Lee Weber now will have to get his kicks from the far side of the River Styx. I wish I had a nickel for every scene that has 2 people facing the screen but one with his or her back to the other while conversing. Actually, despite her wealth & aristocratic airs, Adrienne DID have alot in common with the average Peyton Place housewife. She had dishwater hands, too, only hers had diamonds on each finger. She didn't mind washing the dishes herself but she sent them out to Tiffany's to have them dried. For only the 2nd time in the series, I believe, someone was shown watching TV, in this case Rita. The town has many ghost stories. Doesn't quite fit the mold, though. In Peyton Place, the witching-hour is 2 in the afternoon. Even the most haunted spot in town, the pillory, hits the sack by noon. It's pretty dull down at the beach, too. The most exciting thing to happen there recently was when the lifeguard had to give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to Flipper. Anyway, this was another great episode!
As I mentioned, he could honestly divide his deed while he is still alive and let everyone live quietly and make plans and peace, once they new what they got honestly and justly, everything would go on its right way, but then he would not have human chess to play ind intrigues, if Peyton is so wise, why he does not put his brains to give positive direction in everybody's life? Then, was he able to teach positive lifestyle and morals to his daughter? who needs such money which poisons environment and souls, Norman and Rodney sensed that That is so strange, father and grandfather Payton con mans and scorpios, mother monster and boys, Rod and Norm came out contrary of them, do screen writers think that is possible?
Sharona S towards the end it kind of became less interesting, beginning was very cool and half, then it kind of even disattracted from the main characters
Why do they keep saying "ann howard" in the same convo? we know by now who they're talking about... i love Martin!!! does anybody ever lock their doors? norman just walked into the newspaper office..middle of the night.
No locked doors, there were no peep holes in doors, just opened your door to any one, keys left in cars, just good, hard working people that we could all trust. It was a wonderful time in our history, glad I lived through it.
Peyton is a con man, honest man would not be able to put up such deceit. It is so strange that writers developed from funny lovely old man into something more devious and even unethical character
+democolor42 Only because you seem to have a real interest in the characters than most do I offer this response-Peyton to me is probably the most interestingly written of all cast. I am always on the emotional fence with him. Thanks for all your good views during my 3 wk. visit to Peyton Place.
+democolor42 Very...I,ve only watched for a short time (never knew it existed) and living in similar territory the characters astound me. Some have taken overacting to new highs!
Martin does have a soft spot that has shown through more than once..he's also got this thing about facial expressions that make him look mischievious - as opposed to devious, double-dealing and all the rest...

I'm about 8 years late to the Peyton Party! This is a great series! Watching ot for the first time.
Amazing how Peyton rationalises his actions.
The irony is, had Ann Howard remained alive Peyton would probably have continued to shut her out of the family.
If Susan Oliver ('Ann Howard') had been allowed to fulfill her original 12 month contract -- instead of unceremoniously being booted after just three months [49 half hours] -- she might have been Mrs. Ann Rossi, the good doctor's bride.

Ya. In this case, the end does not justify the means. Because of Peyton playing God, Lee is dead.
Martin Peyton is one twisted bastard and played brilliantly by George Macready...
*schemer*
@@musicalme27 STHU!
Peyton doesn't care about Stephen, so why should he have cared about Ann?
"A house of death", thus spoke the innkeeper.
Leslie spends more time running around covering his butt than he does working at the mill.
LOL :)
🤣🤣
I now hate Peyton with a vengeance. He has no soul.
Me too!
Mr. Peyton was always that guy you loved to hate.:-)
I don’t hate him, just don’t like his games, evil doers get evil, House of Death, 😢
Two dead bodies in the same house within two days ... and the police are perfectly satisfied that nothing is amiss. Tells you all you need to know, doesn't it?
Shame on Peyton. He is truly a monster.
Lee died a bloody death and the carpet is pristine not stained at all. This is the longest night. Or did I miss the following day.
The only 2 patients Dr. Rossi had is Rita and Mr. Peyton.
WHAT ABOUT CHRIS? IS SOMEONE GOING TO TELL HIM? AND SANDY?
STEVEN (JAMES DOUGLAS) LOOKS GOOD IN SUITS.
Lawsuits.
😂

Two deaths in the same living room in a few days...
Norman, trying to kill your brother, blinding him for life, beating your wife, threatening Allison, threatening everyone IS taking from society.
Don’t you mean Lee?
Small town with a lot of killings Peyton so cool and calculating
I love how pompous windbag Leslie is always giving orders. Too bad Webbah was the loser in that battle.
Yes, Leslie comes out smelling like a rose. He's the one who dreamed up the murder plot in the first place.
I would have left this house along time ago!
Steven holds the black king of the chess play.
Indeed, NOT the white...

Mr Peyton is running out of gas fast. He is beginning to look like a beaten man.
His leukemia, which was in remission, has come back. He's a very sick man.

One would think that Martin would have an army of doctors to confer with Rossi & take care of Martin..
Anyone wanting to set up home in Peyton Place, think again.
+democolor42 who caresif it's possible, it's a good show. I'm just as hooked on it as you...lol
Sharona S towards the end it kind of became less interesting, beginning was very cool and half, then it kind of even disattracted from the main characters
OOPS Continuity watch. When did they change the page of the newspaper from "PEACE!" to "ARMISTICE!" ???
Fascinating...probably to steer clear of any reminders of the Vietnam War protests that were making headlines at the time.
Come on, Stephen. Rally
Why does Peyton hate Steven?
he looks at Steven and sees only the result of his own mistakes with his own child.......
Who many times has this been asked? It is obvious,
Steven Cord - district attorney ... doesn't hesitate to lie about the death of Lee Webber. Tells you all you need to know, doesn't it?
Why do they keep saying "ann howard" in the same convo? we know by now who they're talking about... i love Martin!!! does anybody ever lock their doors? norman just walked into the newspaper office..middle of the night.
Back then it seemed no one locked their doors, even in cities. Different world.
No locked doors, there were no peep holes in doors, just opened your door to any one, keys left in cars, just good, hard working people that we could all trust. It was a wonderful time in our history, glad I lived through it.

***** Oh, we do not take it seriously, don't we? They are just fun comments, entertaining :)

I truly think that the hate from Peyton is truly what keeps him going.
