Hi there and thanks for the videos and your effort. However I disagree with the fingering in m.10 (also m.20 and elsewhere) right hand. It should be 1-4, 1-5, 1-4, 1-5 instead of 1-5,1-5,1-5, 1-5. you can slide the 1st finger but not the others thus contributing to less legato even if the pedal is depressed. When you play slow, it's even more important to play the legato passages more accurately.
@@BachScholar If you play these octaves with your fingers of choice without the pedal and still sound ok, then I will accept the notion of making a choice for fingering in this passage. By the way, these particular octaves should be legato. Even Alfred Cortot mentions this in his chopin etudes teaching and performing printed works
If the octaves must be legato (assuming the phrase lines indicate legato), then this means that the chords like in bars 11-12 should also be legato, but this is impossible. Since chords like these are impossible to play totally legato with the fingers then there is no need to try to play the octaves legato either. This means that Chopin's phrase lines indicate phrase groupings rather than necessarily total finger legato. For example, it is impossible to play the RH chords in bars 2-3 or 4-5 legato with the fingers, yet these have phrase lines. All pianists must play these non-legato with slight spaces between the chords. Even Cortot could not play these legato. Therefore, the phrase lines here indicate three-chord phrase groupings rather than total finger legato. To summarize, "phrase lines" are not necessarily "legato lines" in this or any other piece.
@@BachScholar Do not compare "full" chords with the simple two-note octaves. This is a common mistake made by many pianists. Chopin wrote this 2note passages for a reason. When you play 4 or 5 note chords, the sound is more rich and resonating, resulting to a generally "better" sense of phrasing and legato (with the help of a good pedal). When playing 2 notes (especially 8ves) someone must be very carefull, because simplicity is always trickier. That's when you need to have the best possible fingers ready to play. I have been teaching this my whole life boy. I hope you have a nice and meaningful life. Bye
I wish I could like this more than once! Thank you!

The RH octaves do not need to be legato. Fingering is a personal choice anyway, so I choose my fingering and you choose yours.
