I don't care whoo you are and what you've done in life. If you get to share your stage with Paul McCartney, it is the absolute coolest moment of your life. As a Billy Joel fan, seeing him share the stage with Paul is just.... man oh man.
I've watched this video for years. What has always stood out to me was the look on the audience faces. They knew this was something extra special and magical
Out of all of the concerts and shows I've been to over the last 25 years... this was my all-time favorite... being there in that crowd was electrifying. Absolutely appropriate that Paul was able to play the last live song there, closing the circle he started there with The Beatles.
Because Paul & The Beatles were/are Billy's idols. They are who made him decide he wanted to be a musician after seeing them on that infamous Ed Sullivan show. Just so happens he is friends with Sir Paul now! Billy Joel is a humble, gracious human being.
How wonderful: Billy did not let his ego rule and co-sing but simply added a perfect background voice. His mastership contributed to an - if possible - even greater mastership of Sir Paul. What a truly gifted musicians.
They're BOTH Class Acts. I'd be surprised if BJ did otherwise. There's also obvious mutual respect. It's Cooperation trumping Competition. And with it, creation rather than destruction. We need alot more of that today in OUR country.
Talk about closing the circle! The Beatles performed at Shea to 55,000 fans in 1965 and were the first major stadium concert in the world. Half the audience weren't born when they broke up but everybody knows the songs! In fact, the band had rehearsed " I Saw her Standing There " in case Paul made the show. But " Let It Be " was totally unrehearsed and they nailed it! Love the roar of recognition when Paul plays the opening chords! A rapturous experience! ( Much better sound system than in 1965! )
I lived 3 miles from Shea Stadium (Flushing) and me and 3 of my friends snuck into that concert in 1965. I was 15 and it was my first concert. The cops helped us get in back then and I can tell you that we couldn’t hear a thing and neither could the Beatles. The entire stadium was shaking and every single girl was screaming with many crying also. Never saw anything like that in my life. The Beatles stopped doing live show shortly after coz the sound systems were not advanced like they are today and the fans were so loud they couldn’t hear themselves sing. They ran the music through Shea’s PA system but it was not loud enough. I think they did one other live concert at the Hollywood Bowl and called it quits on touring.
@@dolphe.chiarino6142 Dolph, I hate to say this but some of your info isn’t accurate. After the concert at Shea, the Beatles did 15 more concerts in the U.S. in 1965. During August, 1966, they did 18 concerts in the U.S. before they finally quit touring. I have been a Beatles fan since 2/9/64 and my first concert was the Beatles in Atlanta on 8/18/65. I could not hear them at that concert for all the screaming and crying girls. I was only 10 years old, but I thought it was pretty stupid. Well, at least we can say we “saw” the Beatles in concert. 😍😍😍
The thing about the band being able to just pick this up and play it... any professional rock musician worth their salt grew up listening and learning some Beatle songs, especially guys who would be in a band with Billy Joel. So they have no doubt played along with this song and played it to themselves a 100 times in their lives. That's how it is when your songs are so enormous, so important and so fundamental to the world of music. Thank you, Paul McCartney, for all you have given us.
any pro musician has the ear to pick the key and basic chord progression in the first verse and play along. The song is well known enough for most to know the structure of the song which is just verse chorus, no bridge etc. I certainly don't have that talent but I play with 3 or 4 guys who'd have no problem picking up bass, guitar, drums or keys and playing on the fly with pretty much any song. Add visual cues the band members give each other and they'll know when to stop, when the solo kicks in and so on. Impressive but by no means unheard of at all. I mean of COURSE they know the song, but even if they didn't musicians of the calibre that stand on stand with Billy Joel can certainly pick up a song in real time
Fair play to Billy. Making that jump onto the piano was a tough call and well executed. Lovely moment of musical history...the coming together of Billy and Paul.
That was a really cool moment in Rock and Roll history. I feel sorry for about half of the fans though. It was supposed to be a one night final show, Last Play at Shea, and Paul was not going to be able to make it. Then Billy found out Paul would be available one night later, and they played a second and truly final "final" concert. A real treat for those who got to see Paul, but a real bummer for those who missed him a night earlier.

I hope I'm gone whenever that day arrives as life without this God of all legends will be too depressing to go through.McCartney and his legacy can never be equalled!
I also feel like I don't want to live in a world without Paul, but at the same time - I want to be part of the massive outpouring of love and all the tributes from all his fans *all over the world* on 'that' day...may it not be for many years to come though.
As "friend" James wrote before me, The Beatles performed in Shea Stadium early in their career, & Sir Paul ended that stadium's life with our "Sir" Billy. What a combo!
