- I tried UA-cam shorts for 60 days and this is what happened... In a previous video, I shared the results of what happened after 30 days but now I'm taking it to the next level and the results are shocking.

Thank you! I like your early review videos. I assume they did well because of viewer anticipation, it's also your best Short. Personally, I would want to know if that's just through luck or if that format does well for other future titles. I would then try different variations for each, some showing your face, some without, just to see how they compare. UA-cam for me is just constantly testing.
I'll be back to this video in 2/28/23 to see the progress I made. I started this channel in 12/28/22 and have gotten decent results so far, almost 200k views for first month not too bad

This is super cool Jamie. M channel is brand new and I have been hammering out amazing shorts every single day for a month. It's definitely having the same effect as you are seeing. So, are you saying we should make shorts that don't do well private, and then relaunching some we already have as new shorts?
I would only remove Shorts if it's bringing in views that don't represent your core topic. I've seen some channels that have their core subject as gaming, upload a Short which is a timelapse of someone building a mud hut, it gets millions of views and thousands of subscribers but it's not connected to their main topic. That's the only time I would recommend removing a video or Short. Everything else, good or bad performance, keep it up. I haven't deleted or privated a Short yet.
@@JamieOwers You rock my man. Yeah, if you saw my newbie channel, you would see I am exactly doing what you say to do. haha. I hit the 100 sub mark last Friday and today I sit at 179. I use the shorts as mini ads to my core long form vids, and it is working!!! All of my content is original music and it's crazy the ideas I am coming up with. In fact, thanks to you, I just downloaded an old short, edited it in Final Cut and got a catchy call to action title. Should be fun to see how it does. And duhhhh...I was like how is Jamie editing his short. haha. I figured it out thanks to you. Now my whole perspective on approaching shorts has changed. Please keep doing these types of vids. You are super helpful and one cool dude. Headed back to your. channel to sub now. I'm going to go way past the 1K mark this year. Onward

I guess the effort it takes to make a Short is fairly minimal, I just started a channel and have very few views, but Shorts definitely open the door to the channel.
I'm also going to make my Shorts a brief version of the long form I'm putting out as well.
Yeah. Shorts are good for quick tests to see if you get any traction on the topic, then you can double down with longform

Great video, would you recommend me uploading 3 long form videos a week e.g Mon, Wed, Fri and then 4 shorts a week on Tues, Thirs, sat and sun?

There's no correct answer to that. I always recommend creators stick to a schedule they can maintain. The last thing I want you to do is to burn out after a few weeks. Try to prioritize long-form content first whilst you figure out your style and the content you want to create, once that's nailed, then look to mix in Shorts. Get systems sorted first before you look to push a crazy amount of content

Thank you. This video all of the sudden blew. Before a video goes live, I try to predict where it will be placed out of the last 10 videos. I thought this was going to be a 4/10. I thought the previous videos performed extremely well and it was going to be tough to beat but this has just smashed them all out the water being a 1/10. Just goes to show that UA-cam is an unpredictable beast 😂

Do you have suggestions for visuals for channels that aren't about gaming? I make programming videos and I struggle to make visually-appealing shorts. Thanks!
Looking through your Shorts, I don't think you need to do anything crazy with the visuals. You're teaching people how to code so you want to make changes that improve that outcome. I saw this person ua-cam.com/users/shortsg9fIWtSexLs?feature=share who simply shares how to find prime numbers from 0-1000 and it performed really well. I personally would do what you're doing and add music to the background as calm background music push out 20+ Shorts, see how they perform and double down. If you're really trying to add visuals, you can do something like www.youtube.com/@Danidev he doesn't do Shorts but has amazing videos. Takes a trend/challenge and try to complete it. This can be broken down into a Short + full video
@@JamieOwers Thanks for your feedback! Currently batch editing shorts for the next weeks, I'll let you know once I have some results! The last few days have been pretty bad though, views have been very low.
Sometimes I post a short and it gets around 1-10 views then randomly 24 hours later it spikes anywhere from 1K-2K views 👀 Not sure but very interesting to see. Most of my shorts do have a crazy high spike and then die off.
Yep, the same happened on my personal channel. I believe UA-cam is testing it in the Shorts feed but it's not as good in terms of retention or engagement compared to other similar videos so UA-cam removes it to prioritize content. The good news is that you know you can get in the feed so the topic content is good but you need to work out what's going to get the best retention
I actually have two channels that grew like crazy in 6months. One got one to 1k subs and the other one had 600+, All through shorts. But doesn't do well on how to channels do compared to entertainment channels.

@@JamieOwers no there isn't. I tried replicating this on my how to channel and it didn't do well at all. Both channels that did well are sport channels, so I think entertainment does better with shorts. Like your gaming channel

As a small channel, how often do you recommend to upload content (videos and shorts) ?
As much as possible at the beginning. Don't burn yourself out but if you're able to post 3 quality videos per week instead of 1 quality video, of course, your going to do better. It also helps for rapid iteration as you test ideas, titles, thumbnails a lot quicker. I tend to upload a lot of content at the beginning and then slow down once I know the formula for the channel

I recently started a UA-cam channel, I'm posting long videos (no results yet), but I'm afraid to post shorts and ruin everything, since shorts end with the performance of long videos. What should I do?
In my case, UA-cam Shorts haven't hurt my long-form videos, it's done the opposite and boosted them. As long as you create similar content, you should be fine. But lets say Shorts did hurt the growth of long-form content, you say you've had no results yet, so really there's no harm in trying. When I start a new channel, for the first month I try everything and then I start to develop a strategy using the analytics

Do you put keywords to the shorts videos?
Yes. There's a message just above tags which says tags don't really do anything but it's a habit of mine to include keywords as tags, copy them to the description and write out full sentences where I can.
That was fun....after a bit all I could think of was "dying channel", that's me!!!! Only I call it "Endangered Channel". Every time I post I will lose subscribers, Todd at UA-cam wants me to move to Facebook.....but I'm here to stay. (Mr. Al Gorithm can send me all the emails he wants...I'm not leaving). tHanks for the fun video!
Yeah, I've been there. I got a channel right now where every time I post I lose subscribers but I know eventually things will even out as those who don't suit the content will unsubscribe and a new audience will take its place. Just mentally draining whilst going through the process. Just got to keep posting

I lose subscribers every day but i keep posting and they came back. They will come back. Because they already seen your channel. Don't get disappointed stay on it and keep posting ok? Lol

Each video I post risks another " abandon ship everyone!" I want to put up the next 30 videos and not have fever subs then when I started.

My shorts get views during the first few hours and then get no views after that. What do you suggest I do to keep my shorts getting views?
I had the exact same problem with this channel. I think this is UA-cam testing it within the Shorts feed but it doesn't perform as well compared to other videos so they remove it to prioritize other YT Shorts. You need to experiment with a different style, maybe look at those doing well in your niche. It might not even be that you need to do more work. The way my Shorts did better, was by removing my face and they blew.

U do all my shorts with my face to camera. I've been able to make each one exciting and lots of still photos and caption tricks plus scene changes either indoors or outdoors. Some of my shorts best if 10 sec to 30 sec I get between 200 to 2.5k views each. The more creative the better results. Thanks for your insights.
That's great to hear! Keep it going. Look at your watch to swipe away %, the higher the % of viewers watching the more UA-cam will push. The goal is to get that as high as possible.
@@JamieOwers agreed, ...most of my shorts get as much as 110% and at the lower end at 70% but yet still amazingly high views despite content I've done to be as personal curated as possible which gets me good return viewers who also go for my longform content too.

This is amazing!! I'm still trying to figure our how to upload to Shorts. I upload videos but it doesn't give me the shorts option? #OnTheQuestForMoreSubscribers😊😉
In the UA-cam app there's a Short specific button at the bottom to create or upload Shorts but there's not a Short button on UA-cam. You just click "create" top right, select "Upload Video", and drag and drop your videos or Shorts you want uploaded. UA-cam will automatically recognize what's what based on the dimensions and time of recordings. As long as it's vertical and less than 60 seconds, it will automatically upload as a Short.

I get that with this channel. I push Shorts and they shoot up and flatline. I think it's just because there are better Shorts around the same topic. UA-cam will always pick the better-performing video over others.
If I upload Mr beast podcast in shorts will I able to get viral??
There are lots of people doing this. if you get the right video, you could do well but how will you monetize that? Your business would be dependent on MrBeast. You might also want to double-check the monetization with terms and conditions. I think they're closing down in reuploaded content

@@commandertate7 I can't. Anyone saying they can make you go viral in x days is BS-ing you. Feel free to upload MrBeast clips but you will not be the only one doing that. You will need to figure out how to put your spin on it.
There are channels out there that started doing the same thing but with Andrew Tate, competition got so high that they had to make a move. Now they do full news updates and documentaries on Tate and get millions of views.

Why my yt shorts are not getting any views 🥲
There could be a number of reasons. If you see a spike and then flatline, from my experience it means they're not as good compared to other shorts in the same niche. I experienced this problem with this channel. If you're not even seeing a spike, it might be the channel niche as a whole not having enough attention. Keep on experimenting. I got lucky with these gaming channels
