I have used this set with great success using MB550s...both staked and dragged. No BS Jrs are great too...the smaller trap seems to fit better for me. The coyote is committed which leads to deep pad catches...not a great set for snow...and/or freezing rain. In those cases I have put my trap behind the hole or to the right or left of the step down at the end of the piled dirt...more or less a walk through type blind set. I usually double set the location with a flat set or pipe set to catch any coyote not willing to commit to the step down. Great set if you can get a hole in the ground...I need to use a maul and pick axe on one of my farms because the ground is clay and rock...a lot of inital work but once you get it in it's a relief for sure. I use drags so the hole isn't filled in and compacted on catches. Great set thanks to RJ and Ed for the info.
I started using this set 3yrs ago when you first posted this. One thing i started doing is using it along a trail set like Ed likes to use with a walk thru. Only difference in mine is theres an rj set off to the side of the trail, and then I put eds actual trail set 10yrs away
I've caught a coyote in a set that was under water for 3 days... On the day I went to pull the trap, because the water had receded enough to retrieve it, the was a coyote in it...
Richard and I move 30 sets each day to new ground. Tomorrow we will average 6 coyotes caught in those sets I'm pretty happy with our day 1 catch rate doing this. So I believe our scent is tolerant
I do believe the odor hangs around for quite some time, how long is unclear. But the furbearer knows you was there, but they can see you are not there now. I say do your best to observe some clean habits but dont get hung up about it. Time can forgive some set odors in the long run.

I like your ejected set
Good looking set, I'll give it a try on my line. Great info, thanks
Would if it rain and it fill up with water it not going to work !or is it ?

I dream about trapping in ground soft enough to dig that big of a hole easily
That was a remake so it did dig easily
Nice set,....but I would need an excavator to do that in our ground

Thank you very much for sharing !! Merry Christmas
I like it Ed, but one thing, I noticed Richard already had the trap staked before diggin the set. Why?
The set was a remake Richard. But conditions were as good as we could expect and decided to get the video made.
Thanks Ed, that makes perfect sense now!!
how long does our scent hang around the set? i've always wondered, i figure it's only a few hours..

Looks like a great set. But 20-30 sets of them in a day you'll be wore out.
VERY NICE SET.
