thank you ever so much robert another episode that bring all them old memories back that i had forgotten all abour macca will always be in my top five west ham united players of all time suprised macca has never been given a coaching roll at the club with the young stikers the attendnces back in the day was nothing like we have today again i thanks you for all you do with thezse robert all the best and thanks steve
Such a solid squad, how Lyall managed get the best out of everyone after a poor start was amazing. I was watching the quiz you did back in the 90s vs the Statmaster based on this season, the other week. McAvennie gets plaudits but I doubt they'll ever have another team effort across a season like this again. If only Frank didn't appear on Wogan, ha ha.
What I wouldn’t give to go back and really enjoy that year of my life again. Last year at school plus the football made it memorable for so many reasons.
I was at Bristol Poly during this season so had to live it vicariously via Ceefax and newspapers. I had completely forgotten how many points we dropped in the first 10 games. A massive case of "what if.....". Great video again Robert. Thanks
I remember being at the second game at home thinking here we go again a long season ahead but it clicked and you could see ward and macca would be huge favourites……. Just didn’t know how good that season would be!!…. Spent that whole year crossing the country following them ….great times and great memories…… brilliant as usual every week ❤
Another great video. Gradually catching up, things were really starting to click in this memorable season. Also impressive how Man United managed to throw away such a huge gap at the top.
This was the season when I bought my very first season ticket. The club advertised ‘half’ season tickets in time for Christmas 1985, so I thought I’d treat myself to one. I’ve held one ever since.
Rob, I was a bit harsh on you a fortnight ago about hooliganism (family worries) - I'm sorry. You put your heart and soul into each and every one of these and they get better and better. This was the season that I caught the Hammers bug! Loved Mark Ward. Always gave 100% under John Lyall. Thanks mate and hope you can forgive me. ❤
Think nothing of it. I must admit I was a bit surprised anyone would look at that video and decide to go and get involved in a fight. Grateful for your patronage and comments don't worry about it.
The Birmingham match kicked off at 11:30 so whoever scored the 1st goal would be the opening goal of the season. As it was, David Geddis in the 66th minute. Birmingham had a terrible season & ended up being both relegated & losing at home to non-league Altrincham in the FA Cup. Like so many other "What ifs" about that season, what if this fixture had been later in the season when it was clear how bad Birmingham were going to be? Also, one of the foreign countries that the 2-2 draw v. Liverpool was shown in was Australia. I know, I saw it, the programme was called "Big League Soccer".
Thank you Robert for another brilliantly produced video. First thing to do on a saturday morning is to watch your next one. Frank McAvennie was such a good striker with a phenomenal work rate both at West Ham and Celtic. His off the pitch antics also became legend and the TV show 'only and excuse' made him a cult character - see the video link for this! ua-cam.com/video/uIYtC6KcrEA/v-deo.html
I seem to recall there was some controversy about this at the time. The two squads were socialising together and were all great mates. Of course the public don't like that they want Hatred!
@@westhamhistory Wasn't Alan Border best mates with Ian Botham? Haven't the teams always got on together off the pitch? Apart from people like Merv Hughes.
Absolutely brilliant again. And I would certainly like to go back to those beautiful West Ham days. ⚒️❤️
Brilliant work Mr banks brings back great memories

Same as that mate . That season was the best football we've ever played it was a joy being a Hammer ⚒️
Agreed, same here.

I was in the Southbank for the QPR game. Very poor attendance and loads of room to move around. I was 13 and went on my own. How time's have changed

@@westhamhistory Cheers Robert, you're a top man. Thanks mate. 👍
Goddards injury changed the course of history.
Frank scored a cracking goal at Cambridge pre season...thought we'd signed a player who was a bit useful.........

'Whaurs ra burdz'Wee McAvennie reference fir the hammers fans.
Brilliant Rob! Were you the disgruntled fan who broke into the dressing room? Come on, admit it :-)
I could not possibly comment Graham!
Alan Border appears to strangely happy for an Aussie captain who has lost the Ashes. Great player though.

I'm not surprised that he took a dislike to David Evans. He was a pompous prat.
Hopefully 3 defeats won’t be too costly 😂😂😂😂
Yeah, spoiler alert!
