All I have ever wanted from a Black Metal one man band is in this album. Layers of sounds, mixed textures, folk settings, classical black metal rifs, mysterious ballads and a dark soul journey.
+Hermetic Kitten Wow I can't believe i found you here! Your videos are even cooler now ^^
+Hermetic Kitten Thanks for making relax :D
+Hermetic Kitten what? aside from opinions, what is there to be astounded by? This is some of the most mediocre black metal I've ever heard. I'd rather listen to Ulver and Saor than ever listen to Myrkur. The production basically fucking plagiarizes Bergtatt in spots. What the fuck is a 'dark soul journey'
+sgtzero1337
1. Aside from opinions? What you said is an opinion.
2. Do you know who the producer is? I suspect you do but if you don't you may end up surprised.
I know who the producer is, that doesn't change anything. IT's recycled Ulver
Not even going to wait for the whole album to finish, I'm buying it right now!
T'lan Imass bought the digital version on Bandcamp.
+Varun Narain Haha, same 17 minutes in
T'lan Imass lol
+Varun Narain To people that buy digital versions of albums..What would you do if your hard drive crashes? :P
All Things Prog I'd download it again, can't do shit if the CD or vinyl breaks
This album was produced by Kristoffer Rygg of Ulver, and featured Teloch of Mayhem and Nidingr on guitars, with Øyvind Myrvoll of Nidingr and Dodheimsgard on drums. So not too strange it sounds like it guys!
Wow amazing, thanks for the infos !
Also Haavard from Ulver. This is why it sounds like Ulver.
It's decided. This goes on my playlist during my first trip ever to the Nordics. Stunning sceneries, stunning music. Gonna be gooood.
It's this, it's that. It's not this, it's not that. If it sounds good, it's good.
+David Stinnet ^
+David Stinnett And it doesn't sound that good so.. ;) Nah not trying to provoke, it's alright for Atmospheric Post-Metal
+David Stinnett Yes, and GO HAWKS!
Elliot Pierson I agree, just making a point, and quoting Eddie Van Halen.
then it's that :/
I saw her yesterday live opening for Behemoth and she is really talented. I mean she plays instruments and she has a potent voice (clean and growling) and she had a nice stage image. It's stupid to point out the fact that she is being heavily influenced by Ulver, Agalloch or Alcest as a bad thing, especially in a music scene where being influenced by other more experienced bands is commonplace. Imagine if Emperor or even Ulver were fazed by people like you when they were experimenting with black metal, we wouldn't have two of the best metal acts of all time. Or even Bathory or Venom wouldn't be the same if they weren't heavily influenced by Motorhead and it goes on and on. Just look at the potential people, and don't keep a closed mind because black metal wouldn't be where it is if people didn't experiment with it along the way. And if you think she's a "poser" because the image she is selling, don't forget how black metal started in the first place, with few exceptions it was all an image to keep it away from the mainstream. The only difference between the metal community and the other music communities is because we are here for the music and not for the image. Just enjoy it!
+Kristi Kadzadej I saw her open for Behemoth as well. Before I had heard her name but never checked her music out. Fantastic performance, amazing vocals. She did a great Bathory cover too. Met her after the concert and although she had to go (it was really, really late and most people had left already), she was really nice and down-to-earth. I bought the CD and got her autograph to support her.
+Overrwatcher I'd never heard of her before but I bought her tshirt because I really enjoyed her performance and wanted to support her. And I agree that she really did seem down to earth!
but this is nothing new? How is this experimental.
Tehres nothing experimental about her music. The problem is that she´s a phony. She could have done metal from the very beginning which would show she has an interest in this type of music. She already made a choice and tried a career as a popstar which you do because you want to be popular; Alarm bells should already be ringing for people with iq+80. It didnt work out so she had to bring her filthy cleft into metal all of a sudden. She´s in music for fame. This is all so plastic and artificial and stinks like theres an army of suits behind her making sure the business is running well.
I love the general atmosphere of these songs. Great tracks they are all. Awesome.
Ein atmosphärisches Meisterstück.
Kopfhörer auf Augen zu und eintauchen in eine dunkle Welt.
helt klart 😍
This album is so overwhelmingly beautiful. I hope to see her live one day
She is a true artist, bringing a long needed and refreshing wind of change in the BM genre and community. There is a feral sound to it, which actually makes Myrkur closer to the real origins of BM, rather than those who think only about blood, Satan, violence, and having the shittiest disto possible.
i like myrkur but this opinion is clearly poser, BM always has been evolving in the underground. The genre itself its a fucking schism
Saw them open up for Behemoth this week, really impressed. Came across really well live. The crowd was into it. Tasteful and good performance. Got to meet her after the show and she was very nice and quite pretty :) Great performance, her clean voice is something to write about.
I love the way Vølvens Spådom transitions to Jeg Er Guden, I Er Tjenerne! My favorite part of the album! Hope to hear more tracks like this in the future from her.
I don't understeand why people hate her so much... I never saw something like this. She is amazing, her voice is so dark and beautiful...
I've never actually seen anyone hating on her. Just people complaining about people hating on her.
@@Syklonus Just go one thread up, under Hermetic Kitten ASMR
's comment.
I have only recently read about the whole hate and death threats shit and the only conclusion would be jelaousy and probably the fact that she played in a pop band earlier and did some ultra posh modelling for Channel commercial but directed by Scorcese
That is great music, full of emotions, atmospheres, lots of images and pictures comes to mind, awesome work!
Thanks to Relapse Records for the opportunity to listen to this great Album before buying it.
Just ordered it as CD and Vinyl, which I wouldn't have if I couldn't have listened to it beforehand.
Atmospheric Blackened Folk Metal...I adore it!
This is beautiful! Just arrived home from Sweden rock festival where Myrkur were one of the bands playing. I was in total awe the whole concert :)
What an awesome find! I am in LOVE with the intro for Nordlys. :)
It's so laughably: I listen to all kinds of metal for more than 30 years now. Back in the day you had to pick sides - Mayhem, Burzum. Depending on in which team you were in, the others were sold outs. Fifteen years later, and they were idolized, as trve black metal. Dimmu Borgier? Fuck it! Darkthrone? Na - not cvlt enough. I laughed then, and I laugh now. Some people like debating - I enjoy the music. And Myrkur is a fresh take on the the genre, if you like genres at all! And behold: what a fresh take! This is oh so good in many ways - definitely a Myrkur fan since I stumbled upon this!
Claims to have listened to black metal yet doesn't know it's KVLT, with a K and not a C. I laughed harder at your post than anything else. and no "elitist" ever says shit about Darkthrone. You're making stuff up.
Also you're probably gay, you should have that checked out.
@@facepalm486 Yeah, your nick speaks for yourself: you totally didn't get I quoted others did you? And: I'm no elitist - I'm beyond the age of 12, so no need for this.
@@facepalm486 black metal elitism is for closed minded individuals who haven't stopped fucking deer in the woods since the 90s.
By your name I guess you also have a good taste in Hardcore :D ;)
I like to listen a lot of genres... and i had a break from Black Metal and any other metal until now... damn this band...Myrkur...they are amazing...i just love it!
Vølvens Spådom is one of the most beautiful, etherial songs. Thanks for uploading.
the best album i heard in my entire life period.
I'm so glad I stumbled across this. I love it.
Heard Amalie interviewed on NPR Weekend Edition this morning, as I was on the way to work, talking about this album [like Secular Sinner says below]. She's articulate and very interesting. I am enjoying the contrasting sounds within the music. Love it -- support it.
Great stuff , sooo "soft" riffs and her beautiful voices both clean and growling keep my attention all the time. fantastic mix of black and folk, and smth else i can't describe. it's pure art, awesome and atmospheric, thnx a lot for uploading. 🤘👍
I don't know y'all are fighting over, but, uh, my mom showed me this girl and if she makes my old lady happy then she makes me happy.
This girl is amazing. What a complete sounding album. Black metal mixed with amazing soulful soundscapes. Awesome. Greetings from India.
I am truly impressed. This is glorious!
A gorgeous album.
August 2015 seems to be the month of dark and melodic music. Chelsea Wolfe, Ghost and Myrkur have all released epic albums.
Best album of the year for me!! LOVE :D
Fantastisk, tusind tak 🙂
This is great. I feel a mix of folk, dsbm, and first wave bm in this album.
Had the privilidge to see them at Download 2018 - best thing I heard all day
Thanks a lot guys for this new upload, i came on facebook page of Myrkur and they come to my town the 21st of November !
I'll do my best to be there ! And i hope a Relapse table will be set ! :p
this is so beautifully eerie i love it
I like the mix . I think it shows real talent and creativity
I don't care what genre it is, it's beautiful stuff.
I CANNOT DECIDE HOW I FEEL ABOUT THIS. I AM SO CONFUSED
I love it! Thank you very much for this great music!
Это заставило меня почувствовать то, что было редкостью))
Holy shit, what a great album!!
The opening track makes me feel like getting ready for war or something this is just amazing =)
Really love the ambient layers.
The most beautiful music I have heard in such a long time - amazing
One of the top albums of the year for me.
What an incredible discover. I feel like I found the feminine sibling of Agalloch (one of the best bands ever in my heart) I've always been a metalhead since the early 2000s but I fell more and more in love with folk/mystical/norse inspired atmospheric melodic metal. On the more tribal side I absolutely worship Heilung, and Garmarna. Melodic? Try Kalandra. Powerful viking music ? Danheim will pump you up. Those sounds and languages are whispering to my heart & soul from a long gone past life. I'm west european, so essentially from Gaul / Kelt ascendant, but Norse music, culture and mythology speaks to my inners like I was a part of this culture once. Tribal metal is amazing. The Hu for Mongolia, Nini Music for Taïwan, Rotting Christ for Greece are only a few examples. Eths is a groundbreaking french female vocalist metal band. Igorrr is also a french metal/classical UFO, give it a try :)
What an amazing album!💖💖💖
Du är underbar Amelie. Stort tack för en spännande evenemang på båten och för gemensam foto. Hälsar!!!
this existing makes me happy
Too bad it has stolen riffs. The first song she stole the riff off from Absurd - des wotans schwarzer haufen
ReAwakeningPride OnceLost I don't care?
Ooookayyyy I'm officially in love
This is something like I haven't heard before. I am liking this.
excelent album..well done...a really fresh touch in this kind of music.!
I guess, but it sounds a lot like mörker too.
Beautiful music!
so good. great album
I love Myrkur! They're great in my book!
I love this album!
This is so gorgeous \m/
jumpfart666 somehow I highly doubt that.
The age of locking yourself down in just one genre or occupation or whatever is coming to an end. Love this album. Godt arbejde på så mange niveauer!
thats not the problem genuine metalheads has with her.
I don't care what genre it's supposed to be. It's one of the best albums of the year. period.
Fucking Brilliant! !! going to listen to this over and over! I can't believe I've missed out on this for so long. Talented musician, and songwriter. One of my new favorites period.
Into the geriatrics (so to speak)?
This is VERY GOOD stuff, please continue to give us beautiful nightmares
Nice Album! I'm gonna buy it tomorrow!
I didn't think it was cohesive enough at first. Tended to go real soft and a few moments of heavy; but after multiple listens it does flow and I cant stop listening to it
I love her!!!
man, before i heard this, i heard nothing but bad things folks said about her work. that is not the case with me. when i saw them open for behemoth in my area of detroit, michigan, i was in total awe of myrkur and the guys touring with her. at one point i was even crying. she has the voice of an angel but can do black metal vocals though. and this album is a bit of flesh air for once in the scene. i am a sucker for classical or symphonic, and folk elements in the mix. but she's not for everyone though. but i know i enjoy it.
You know how I know your gay? You posted that comment.
Andy Christ that's your opinion dude. don't know what to tell ya. either like or don't.
Rod Gill Andy is just a mental idiot. Soon as a guy shows emotion, in his mind that's makes you gay. I don't get it.
Clorox Bleach everyone has a right to express their opinions so I'm not even mad. some folks don't like her music.
Rod Gill damn straight.
Whelp, I enjoyed it. It was very relaxing to listen to this album. I'm far from a trve black metal fan, so I'm just looking at the album as it stands on its own, without putting it in the context of 30 years of black metal. Honestly, though, I don't care. At the end of the day, it sounds good to my ears.
amazingly diverse . I should give it another listen tomorrow or another day . Great album
Great album!
Great stuff, gonna buy it.
They are opening for, BEHEMOTH. Ordered my VIP package for the Philly show!
This is good. Loved the trve stuff since first wave. This isn't trying to be that. It is what it is , and it's good.
I actually like her music. She's definitely got her own thing going on. I hear some elements of grunge influenced in there as well as other variations of rock and metal. Her piano music and infusions are absolutely beautiful as well.
Cuando una banda se atreve a hacer algo diferente y creativo salen cosas maravillosas como esta :)
Perfect
Yes!
Excellent!
Myrkur brings back reflections of some beautiful albums from the 90's too, e.g. SIRRAH - Acme, among others
La vida de la vocalista, que no hizo o que hizo, no importa. La banda suena bien, el disco sueba bien, eso es lo que importa
porque que hizo? Oo
@@vitriapaz Que por que era modelo antes de ser cantante y de mas bobadas
6:16 That's how a Shieldmaiden or a Valkyrie must sound like!
Wow, i'm a fan!
Looking forward seeing this on GMM 16.
this is epic!
Great job, great voice.
First several seconds and i already love this
Love It!
Some of the clean vocal passages remind me of Enya!
+Will Whitman EXACTLY, Enya going Folk black metal.
+Will Whitman More like, Theatre of Tragedy
+gap hey I was just about to write it!
Also, I love the use of the cowbell. GREAT!!!
+Will Whitman U mean dimmu synth from Orinoco Flow right? :P
Nope rather norvegian roots for me........sounds like Kari
Storm - Nordavind
I think the fact that you have so limited a frame of reference for "ethereal female vocals" says way more about you.
Amazing!
an eclectic mix; from serene soundscapes to more traditional sounding black metal. the kind of album where it sounds like you could have it in the background while reading or when a venue plays something between sets and everyones having a smoke. either way its a generally subdued album.
Прекрасно!
Goddamn this is so amazing
pure beauty
Magic Sound!
Epic dark frees one mind in this vast sound of beautiful noise
STOKED TO SEE YOU IN DENVER TONIGHT!
Very awesome album! \m/
OMG! This is my favourite tribute band of ULVER :O
