He’s the best. Very honest and genuine guy. Met him at Blade Show a few years back and was very impressed with the time that he spends visiting with each and every person that wants to talk with him. I was wearing a shirt with Steve McQueen on it and we had a good conversation about The King of Cool. Mr. Emerson’s not far off himself. Thanks for being a solid guy Ernie.
CQC-7 daily carry. I can sharpen it in under a minute on the back of a ceramic cup or even a sidewalk if i wanted to. One side to sharpen, half the time it takes to do it. Best cutter of all? No. But works in any hand position and can always stay sharp no matter where you are. Emerson knives for life. Classic designs truly stand the test of time.
What a simple man; ... a genius in his blade designs, whether by accident or otherwise. EMERSON Knives are indeed, a reflection of our great military and law enforcement. Thank you Sir, for your hard work in producing these types of weapons.
Mark the editing on this was awesome. That and this is just a great story to hear. A good man and awesome blades with a wife to loves him and backs him up.
I have owned a countlese amount of blades since a child when my father would give them to me & by far the CQC-7 is the best quality & craftsmanship I have ever seen & owned thank you Kuya Emerson.
Mr. Emerson I own a Benchmade Emerson design Auto from 1992. It's in flawless condition. And will be my son's when I leave this Earth. I just can't believe it's been almost 30yrs. Great blade love your life's work
I’m a tabla player, I cant believe there is actually great tabla music in this video! I used to own a Benchmade CQC7, then later the Emerson version, somehow lost both, and am watching this now while waiting for the CQC7 Mini I just ordered. Great video; keep that tabla music comin.
not surprised Ernie's a cool/likeable dude,...he IS a knifeguy after all......super vid...i've never seen pics or footage of Emerson's pre-tactical knives...THAT was a highlight for sure
Just watched this video. I really hope you guys add more to this playlist series. That was extremely enjoyable to hear about Ernie's successful entrepreneurship, especially since it was doing something he loved. Loved the honesty and the entire vibe of this video. Definitely deserves more views for sure. Every time I use the wave, I'll think of his story.
Grass hopper, I too was watching Kung Fu Thrus. night, was too poor and practiced Shotokan with a buddy who could aford the classes. Very joyful upbringing with good mother and father and sister. I am very impressed with the down to earth straight forwardness of the discovery by accident. The man is fantastic as are his knives.
Fantastic story. Undivided attention throughout the entire video....Made me appreciate and respect Emerson that much more. Thanks for posting that....Truly.
I am a balisong guy. I am very strict on what knives I buy. Material, weight, and balance, I spend a lot of money on high end balisong knives. But the only knife that I "only" carry as an edc are wave knives from this guy :)
He is so likeable here. I pretty much refused to buy anything related to Emerson Knives based on the rants he wrote on his website but this vid paints a totally different picture. Cool stuff.
I held off on purchasing an Emerson because of the rumors of "bad fit and finish". I finally bit the bullet and bought a Commander and, wow, I was shocked how great it was. Not saying the rumors aren't true to some extent, but the quality is top notch.
Excellent enjoyable video and thank you sir. I've been collecting and carrying many of Ernie's models for years, and have several of his Commanders on the desk right next to me. I would love to meet him, but I've never seen him up at the Oregon knife show.
I’ve loved the Super Commander, since I got it. It’s designed like an emergency knife. It’ll break vehicle windows & cut seat belts, quicker than any other knife l have. Nice to be able to open one handed. I’ve got better quality steel knives, cheaper than the Emmerson’s, but not faster. They are expensive, but my life is worth more than a knifes cost. I bought a couple more for gifts, but I haven’t worn mine out. I bought for the design speed, & the weight. Like a 1911, badass, loaded or empty. Definitely wouldn’t want to get smacked with it. I would still buy it if it was made with D2, or S30v Steel, but it might make it very difficult to drill that hole in the top of the blade, for round assist. Stay healthy, keep breathing!
great video this video makes me want to buy another Emerson just to cover the video I've been lately a cold steel fan because one of my Emerson blades broke but after this video sing the love that you put in it makes me want to buy another one
What a Great Story!! Thank you for Sharing this.. I love hearing how people make something from Nothing,, it just matters how badly you want something!!
I’d be interested in knowing which town in northern Wisconsin he is from. I’m from Minnesota, but spent a lot of time in northern, WI. His story is so interesting.
Lol I just got a Emerson/Kershaw cqc 11k as a gift from a friend of mine, he showed me how to do the hook pocket flip thing... My jaw hit the floor an was saying... That's sooo fucking cool!!!! So I bounce back an forth between my other blades so I don't put alot of wear an tear on just one knife, knives I have so far are... Emerson/Kershaw cqc 11k, Böker Automat Kalashnikov 74, Böker plus Magnum, Guard Way karambit, an last but not least... I've had it for ten years an still works fine... My CRKT M16... I'm just a blade freak! Lol
I've got mad respect for the man, but his product, not so much. That said, since he has a company, and it ain't him doing everything I'll blame it on that. The two Emerson knives I've owned came dull out of the box, the lockup failed from the slightest touch on the spine of the blade, they were the roughest knives I've handled up until that point in my collecting. (I actually think kershaws 20 dollar Emerson knives are better performing than a real 200 dollar emerson) So if you're buying a Emerson, make sure it's one of the customs that Ernest made himself or buy one from Kai (Kershaw, Zero Tolerance) My 2 cents
I've had my Emerson CQC-7 for 18 years now, Himalayas, Central American jungle, dare say it would split small logs..tough as nails for its size. I'm sure you can figure how to sharpen it properly.
Well done video. Is that a scar on the left (right for the viewer) side of his face? Also I love the wave name. Looks like a wave but also... it is how you say hello to someone you think is a threat. An "Emerson Wave" if you will.
I met him at the USN in las Vegas he promised to make me a knife for my son that was going into the army no charge haven't heard from him and that was five years ago. But what can I do the man is probably too busy no hard feelings Earnest.

Much respect for Ernie. His designs are great but his steel choice and hrc are sub par for the money. Traded my 2 Emersons away, sadly.
