Rick is the most down to earth, Non-Bullsh**, knowledgable legend. anyone who has this man work on their vehicle is priveliged and know not only is the info exact and true but also heartfelt! all given with the deadpan funniest comments! it goes whizz fizz hopefully no pop bang and everyones happy!
I'm not done with this video yet and already am wanting to comment. looking at the dyno screen, amazed at the technology. Only started watching your videos last month, enjoy and admire your work
Great stuff again. Never apologize for trying to do things properly. It's your shop, and it obviously has a great reputation, you must be doing something right. Just keep doing what you are.
Love the deep dive into dynos and dispelling the myths. I wish I'd have known all this 20 years ago before going on pointless dyno days and being disappointed because I was focused on the final number without knowing where the car started.
My god the variables on a dyno is incredible. Plus understanding all this !!!!!. Should have been a 747 pilot or A380. The depth of your knowledge knows no bounds. Plus frank talking is a breath of fresh air boy o. Yaki da and all that . Next vid
Ricky every time I watch I learn (could be that I'm thick but let's not go there :) ). I do think there is a future career in 'explaining stuff' for you (particularly to newbies to the trade) but I can see you're a tad busy at the moment. Great camera work and questions being asked by Dav. Reference your closing comment, as a widower of now 19 weeks I fully support your comment about family / friends, it's a lonely world without them. Looking forward to future vlogs and the developments of the new workshop. Cheers, Kevin.
Really appreciate the insight into the dyno calculations and procedure. You touched on different tyres for changing the coast down, but what about racing stripes? Is it always 50bhp or does that change? :-)
Cracking video as always Rick. Mate there are only so many hours in the day, I totally get your stress levels. Thanks for sharing, even though I am a chippy and don't understand most of what you are talking about 😂 I really enjoy your vids. Especially the rants as I am a grumpy old man, and that is right in my wheel house. Enjoy the racing this weekend and try to get some rest big fella.
Incredible knowledge you have Ricky, so talented, you lost me when you plug it all in but hey the way you explain everything and Davlo's excellent questions and his understanding of the work you do is just a great watch, credit where its due you put up great vids
Another brilliant Vlog, you come across so much Bs these days, I remember a mag day at Bruntingthorpe, me ( Quattro Valve Countach) against a Lotus Calton, me speedo reading 2 mile out at 170, Lotus Carlton 35 mile out at 140, apparently many ways to tune a car. What I always wanted was a car that started every time I turned the key, not something that was always needing work, do you not get brain fade with all this data, enjoy the weekend regards John,
I’m interested to know how and where do you learn the art of tuning a car. Most tuners don’t really give the information of who taught them. I think it’s really something missing in the internet I know it will take a lot people out of business😂 but I’m just curious.
Ricky, a brilliant explanation of how a dyno works, thank you. As a bike rider I've used different dynos over the years and there's definitely some who try and convince you that only they have the "dark secret" to unleashing more power, when in reality they're fudging the results. There is quite a well known (infamous) "bike tuner" who does just this and his claimed results are so wildly different to everyone else's and his results cause quite a bit of lively discussion on different bike forums.
Given how fussy you are about everything else you do (which I love as it's the right thing to do ) it's surprising you're using a roller dyno with all of their inconsistencies.......but I get that it can be a pain in the arse with all of the modern protections on a hub dyno, but they give so much better control, not to mention safety and better overall results........ really interested to hear your thoughts as I've seen results change easily between runs just with tyre pressure increases, not to mention wheel slip on higher HP cars etc..... just seems daft to me to use rollers. Is it mainly wanting to get coastdown numbers that you won't get from a hub dyno ? Love the channel..... have learned so much, thanks for all of the efforts.
It's not a "Show" it's a working ( to the highest quality level) workshop! Ricky has forgotten far more than most ' tuners' could learn. His knowledge is phenomenal, and he is justly proud to be the foremost R8 specialist, certainly in the UK and up there with the best in Europe, but he's humble with it, and he does not need to bullshit. What he says is what it is. And if he does not know, he will tell you he doesn't. That's why I and many subscribers watch REPerformance every video, coming back for more.
Absolutely brilliant video, love the technical side. Are cars with an aftermarket ecu easier to dyno? Can u just plug into them & remap? Had the R1 on the same dyno every time. The only car I've had dyno'd was my mk2 escort rally car & that was 145 at the wheels on 48's 2.1 pinto no idea if that was good now, lol. Thought it was OK at the time, lol 😆
I love the engine sound from that MacLaren. Doesn't have the rasp/whine you seem to get from Italian supercars. Is it au naturel, or is it achieved by acoustic trickery in the exhaust?
Your absolutely correct mate let them spend £150.000 on a Dyno and then let everyone come and abuse it for buggerall all day that in the end is going to cost you, haha it's funny how some people's brain cant comprehend the money that goes into all this it ain't fucking cheap as you've mentioned a hundred times now
You allways send me into space with your tech talk mate makes me realise how stupid I am 🙈😂 and you shouldn't apologise so much if the only worry someone has is will I have my McLaren for the weekend then they ain't got much to worry about just tell them to f..k of 😂 Family and health mate Family an health 👌
A dyno is a great tool for tuning, however, what's the point of increasing your BHP if you can't put the power down. On road performance 0-60, 60-120 is the real indicator. It would be interesting to see those figures before and after.
Agree wholeheartedly with your dyno views, they are a comparison tool, and the only comparison you can trust is the same dyno, under the same conditions. Anything else, to use your 'thumb and knuckle' simile, is like saying it's 'me thumb and yay much' and someone else using their thumb and getting a different answer. If you think there's some bollocks and olde wyfves tayles pushed in supercars, you should try 2 strokes ... P.S. the rants just have me nodding in agreement.
Really good stuff, I sort of had an idea on Dyno's and this confirmed and expanded my views. Put yer feet up and rest over the weekend (I know you won't). Looking forward to WSB & BSB, might go to Brands on Sun, just bloody hate the journey home!!
Hi Ricky love the channel watch all of them and glad I’m not alone on the things u rant at I think thank fuck it’s not just me. MANNERS! Left field question. Recently had to give up work on medical advice nowhere to put a car so fancy doing a bike pretty good with my hands and know a bit about engines and suspension but no expert. Any advice on a bike to start with and don’t say moped. Looking forward to the new unit and every success u deserve it and can we bring back Karl’s quotes
Finally someone else that agrees BHP isn't real and just for willy waving 😂 loved the tech talk/dyno rant though! Question for question corner... I was young when I worked in a "back street garage" (apprenticeship). Assisting with MOT's, plenty of services, timing belts and all sorts of other random things and being young, dumb and full of... Something... I quit and went to work in IT. I still use my mechanical skills on a regular basis in my now home garage, but would love to get my hands dirty again but I don't want to go back to the start if that makes sense. I feel like that's the only way to then be able to work up to something more specialised as my experience is now "outdated" even though I technically still have the skills. Any advice on where to possibly start? Or is it just a suck it up, take a big paycut and work my way back up?
Would u consider a hub dyno because of the ever increasing horsepower or is there just no demand for it? Are there many in the country? Hiya Kate 👋 xx 😘
It's your dyno so you can do with it what you damn well like. No club should be expecting you to offer that service because that is just presumptuous of them.
It’s a shame that McLaren won’t cooperate with reputable companies like yours and Thorney as you both do so much to keep their cars running perfectly. Without you, residual values would be horrific. Companies like yours and Thorney provide expertise that much of the McLaren dealer network simply does not possess. Astonishingly, McLaren won’t even release paint codes.
Sorry to hear you had a sh!te week, having guys off sick is an issue that's hard to convey to customers. Did I hear you say Karl is on short time ?, hope he is OK.
I used a rwd version of that Dyno I was well confused I was getting 80hp lower than everyone else couldn't understand it then at santpod pulled up against a 120hp more than myn same car left him standing 2 seconds 😂😂😂😂
I don't think you have to justify what your brand and business model is. Dyno Days are a bit of fun if you want that sort of thing but I wouldn't associate that sort of activity with your business.
How I do like the dyno talk and how many providers do not care for the customer, only the highest possible number for the street kids. Professionalism earns cred!
Very very very much appreciated your explanation of "dynos"....... didn't send me to sleep, MAKES ME EAGER FOR MORE.
I'm not done with this video yet and already am wanting to comment. looking at the dyno screen, amazed at the technology. Only started watching your videos last month, enjoy and admire your work

Well done lad, enjoying that. It's a real workshop not a "reality show". Best summation of the usefulness and limitations of a dyno I've ever heard.
My god the variables on a dyno is incredible. Plus understanding all this !!!!!.
Should have been a 747 pilot or A380. The depth of your knowledge knows no bounds.

The wee bookings and toolings and boltings get me every time

RIP your other half Kevin
Seeing Ricks hair blow around like that makes think about the old hamlet adverts......😂
enjoyed, have a rest full weekend Ricky
respect for having it all on your shoulders, rebuilding the engine and then max power running it. if it blows its on you.
Really appreciate the insight into the dyno calculations and procedure. You touched on different tyres for changing the coast down, but what about racing stripes? Is it always 50bhp or does that change? :-)

Educated. No bullshit, that's why we love this stuff. Fantastic man ❤
Thank you

I want to work for you so bad love the work the banter the passion. Great bunch all the best, go toprak 🏍️

Thumb and a knuckle , got to be a T-shirt design 😂
Fair play Rick, another great video. You have great kit and great knowledge thanks for sharing. Enjoy the weekend

I never realised that I knew F all about Dyno’s .
Brilliant video. Very informative.
Good Friday video lads
Thanks 👍
Great explanation of the part coast-down plays.
Massive respect Rik your such a grafter
Great video as usual so much information all cars seem very very technical thank you for your time
Wow!! Thank you :)
You need to spin your hooks around so that the open end of the hook is further away from the loops.
You can only do your best Ricky and that’s never in doubt 👍
Finally, keeping it true to the thumbnail
In essence your head should be like a Tefal. You knowledge iiiisss impeccable buddy

Appreciate it, thank you
Awsome as always Rick...
Interesting, and chill 👌
This is a great show, so much talent

Dyno is like a 10mm socket? Have you lost many dynos?
not in an engine bay..
Doesn't smoke now and purrs like a kitten 🐈 Hello kate
Are the new type hub dynos safer and better or worse than the standard roller type dynos ?
This is where I'd be; though they are more time consuming to setup. My experience is purely engine bed dynos. Even more work to setup...
I love the engine sound from that MacLaren. Doesn't have the rasp/whine you seem to get from Italian supercars. Is it au naturel, or is it achieved by acoustic trickery in the exhaust?
Really enjoyed this coverage. Try and have a good and restful weekend Ricky. ATB Graham
Times I have used a pencil to "measure" things, well to get things even.
Hi Ricky
Brilliant in sight video. Is a hub dyno a better bet and more accurate reading
Your absolutely correct mate let them spend £150.000 on a Dyno and then let everyone come and abuse it for buggerall all day that in the end is going to cost you, haha it's funny how some people's brain cant comprehend the money that goes into all this it ain't fucking cheap as you've mentioned a hundred times now
Good video😊
Thanks 😁
Stevie wonder could see ricks scalp on a windy day in Swindon 😂 great vid as usual boys absolutely love them
Lovely b7 RS4 out back 😂

good to see tin tin back on our screens!!

Take care, good health is vital!
Boss 👍🏻🤘🏽💯🔥🔥
Health Boi....... Massively important... So is keeping customers satisfied.... Soooooo difficult.,. Balance
But without health there's no balance.!
Weirdly enough, a thumb and a knuckle is how i measure my knob, thumb is there for width and knucle is there for comparison
Keep it real. 👍👍👍
Shit happens, but you can only do what you can do. You’ve only got one pair of hands.
Agree wholeheartedly with your dyno views, they are a comparison tool, and the only comparison you can trust is the same dyno, under the same conditions.

It’s your business Rick

How is it emf can tune thru the port without removing the ecu?
Power Assessment Session - really😂
Would u consider a hub dyno because of the ever increasing horsepower or is there just no demand for it? Are there many in the country?
Hiya Kate 👋 xx 😘
After spending £120,000+ on this dyno? I don't think that would make financial sense to Mrs Elder..........................
Al say it again I like the shades lol 😂
Damn that was fucking interesting
It's your dyno so you can do with it what you damn well like. No club should be expecting you to offer that service because that is just presumptuous of them.

Look after yourself mate

Awesome Hair Horn blowing in the breeze 😄
Go and have a beer👍🍺
Dav, Davler, or is the right name be "Dabbler"
Is Karl ok, noticed you said he was doing less hours 😮
Suzuka 8 hours too ( only 2 hours left )
That ecu placement seems to be a bad idea from McLaren
I used a rwd version of that Dyno I was well confused I was getting 80hp lower than everyone else couldn't understand it then at santpod pulled up against a 120hp more than myn same car left him standing 2 seconds 😂😂😂😂
Agree you & Dyno stuff, also Liability if it goes Tits up testing a sh**t machine 😮
The glasses are class you just wear them wrong! To high on your bridge. Looks goofy.
Belter of a Tool box. I must say 😅
no laughing but I had to put my 350cc royal enfield on the dyno to pass a Japanese Mot 13 Hp rear wheel I kid you not
Ricky try and avoid a south westerly
I don't think you have to justify what your brand and business model is. Dyno Days are a bit of fun if you want that sort of thing but I wouldn't associate that sort of activity with your business.
ah ffs, no conclusion to my free edumacational entertainment? Shocking!!!! Priorities dear boy, priorities! 😁
How I do like the dyno talk and how many providers do not care for the customer, only the highest possible number for the street kids. Professionalism earns cred!
Davith, the only gay in the village 🏳️🌈🤣🏳️🌈🤣🐑... only joking sir 🤠
So rick Cambridge car garage rang me and said your r8 is ready I said I don't even own a car or drive but I will have the r8
Still winning?
