I owned a 4.2 R8 from 2014 to 2018 and spent a lot of time on R8 talk and remember a lot of the members, particularly our American cousins asking Ricky for help and advice. Well done for progressing to a successful business, always highly regarded.👍🏻

My favourite episode yet, honestly didn't want it to end!
Hearing a side to a service based business that isn't spoken about often, is an eye-opener.
I've only just started my own web design and development business and believe me when I say this video really hits home!
Keep up the good work and enjoy your getaway!

A worthwhile video for people to see. I ran a small, tiny, petite little 1 man band service/repair business and the overheads broke me when I went from mobile to 'workshop' based. No one would pay the realistic labour cost, just about breaking even after everything was paid. Lots of people want there cars fixing professionally and cheaply?!! I would always have been looking over my shoulder if I hadn't 'done it by the book'. Plenty of other 'successful' garages in the area making a killing by NOT doing it by the book. Love the true to life videos, reality check to the masses. Tip top 👌

I Help out a friend who repairs motorcycles and people don't realise the due diligence you have to do for the sake of safety in not letting a bike leave without being safe and the costs involved in time doing things right. Another good vid dudes .
Yeps some people just don’t get how hard it is to run a business. Been there done that.
From my experience you don’t start making any more money till you have 10 + more employees especially in manufacturing / building trade .
My best advice would be to ‘wing ‘ it for as long as you can , don’t get greedy or too big too quick .
Different for brain dead business that are a numbers game / service sector/ insurance etc.
think you guys have just about got it right. If anything diversify into something that makes money without skilled manual labour as a backup/ sweetener . Still honestly can’t believe you don’t have more subs , personally I can’t be doing with American type promotional/ sponsored/ we are the best crap .
Rather listen to a bit of lad banter laughs and techy stuff .❤

Trouble of it is not enough honest people out there obviously the one you had said that’s okay. It was done by the delivery man. And it’s at same old Chestnut they are quick enough to take your money, but not help you when you need it it’s always a fight. And as far as professional go people use that word but very loosely I could say I’m a professional lorry driver but the way I see it I’m just doing my job and you do it to your best ability. And it’s always good to have a reality check on Life is so shit at times but fun in others.great show 👍

So relate to yours and Jordan’s comments. I was a self employed Sparky, so most of my work was labour, don’t work don’t earn. Then I brought a lad on, and payed him a better hourly rate than I was earning. The first Christmas he worked for me, I payed him two weeks holiday pay, and we had Fuck all in the current account to go out on over Christmas. And everybody thinks you’re loaded cos you’ve got a four bed house and a V6 Mondeo on the path! 🤬🤬😂😂

If you put a %age of each paid job to one side to cover some (hopefully all) mistakes that happened in the work place, could that reduce your tax bill? Rather than increase your outgoings on insurance premiums for the next year(s)? I'm not a business owner so this is an idea thats come into my head and I'm thinking (typing) out loud.
I really enjoyed the video as not being a business owner (but hope to one day work for myself/run a business) it's great to see/hear to type everyday things business owners have to deal with

A lady walked into my office and told us she had imported an MGB and could we convert it back to an earlier spec without all the safety front and rear bars, no emission equipment etc and convert it to RHD and knowing these cars well we took it on. Six months later we finished the job we should never have agreed to and a mechanic took it for a test drive and totalled it in a head on and what made it worse was that the owner was sitting her final exams at University and I did not tell her for some days due to jeopardising her exam results. While the insurance paid it out it cost a lot of money we could never recover.

The "I can stick film on" guys never did stripes or something that must be 100% to look good. There's a polisher in my hometown who lives from other people fucking up paint, forget holograms, guy buys the Aldi DA polisher then blows every single edge out then brings the car to him "can you fix it?". Happened to him more than once. He hates Audis because people bring them in with the black chrome that peasants ran over with a buffer and polish the black halfway off the trim. Tragic.

As a fellow small business owner, I'd strongly suggest approaching a local broker for insurance where you've got a consistent point of contact and people who will fight your case in the event of a claim.
I've had similar experience when dealing directly with larger insurers however using a broker has been infinitely easier and cheaper in the long run for sure.

Haha yeah, insurance. The only thing you can pay for your whole life and get absolutely nothing in return. So many ways that insurers will wriggle out of a pay out and a real eye opener when you have to deal with them as a repairer.
Many people don't realise that being under insured then translates to a percentage in the eyes of the insurer. So you are 50% under insured? then you'll get 50% of the value that you declared. Tread carefully small business owners.

The “Average” clause more commonly known as under insurance is the way insurers cut down a claims payment. I advise customers on how to avoid this as part of my day job together with policy conditions, warranties and exclusions. Particularly Motor traders like Ricky

It was interesting to hear you both talk about your early days starting out, but your comments re insurance, sort of relate back to your comments regarding "the customer doesn't know whats involved " i assume you both have trade policies that will only covet trade costs, with no element for profit allowed, this will also be the case if a vehicle god forbid, ever became a total loss, only pay out trade value..... i have worked in the insurance industry for more years than i care to remember and even i have been caught out😢 surely like every time ive had my bike on a dyno, you get the customer to sign a waiver???
