I think people who don’t know much about vocal technique can just appreciate the beautiful singing and emotion in her performance. And people with musical training are impressed with Lea’s impeccable technique. This performance was from the 10th anniversary concert in 1995 (Lea was 24). Lea has been performing since age 7 and she will be 52 next month. You can find performances of Lea’s throughout the years up to the present - she still sounds amazing. I really hope you check out more!

HI Anna, Lea is a legendary Filipinio artist. She is the Disney voices in Aladdin's Jasmin in "A Whole New World" and Mulan in "Reflection" the only one who sang to DIsney songs in history and Bes Actress winner in both Uk's Lawrence Olivier and US' Tony Awards for "Miss Saigon" Musicals

If there was ever a multimedia dictionary of music written, then I think this performance would be the one to set in the margin next to the definition of "musical theater," as it simply illustrates everything that musical theater is. Thanks, Anna. This was an utterly gorgeous performance. And you did a masterful highlighting the elements and many subtleties that makes this performance such a treasure.

Spectacular! And, Anna, when you 'sang' little bits to show us what was going on, you were very easy to listen to and you are quite a talent yourself.
Lea? Incredible! I've now heard it well over a 100 times and everyone who reacts to it is literally stunned by how magnificently she sang this.
    Thank you, Anna.

It's rare that I apply the word Magnificent to a performance - but this was simply that. Mastery, nuance, emotion, embodying the character, stage presence, perfect delivery. What a great artist. Informative'unpack' Anna, as always.😊

Discovering a (to me) new artists is a special pleasure. Your profound and passionate 'guidance' adds perfectly. And at some moments it even seemed like you would take over the singing. But indeed Lea did it beautifully. Once more, thank you for a great reaction 👏👍

I have watched many vocal coaches react to this video and I have to admit, yours is the most thorough and most informative of them all. I loved how you played the video first without talking over it too much, and I loved how you took your time rewinding certain parts, to make your viewers notice subtle changes in her technique that non-singers like me could easily miss. And now that you have reacted to her 10th Anniversary performance, I think it only makes sense to react to her version of "I Dreamed a Dream" from the 25th Anniversary concert😉 That one sent shivers down my spine!🤣

In older Broadway musicals the story was told by dialogue and then the performers broke out in song like in South Pacific (I'm Gonna Wash that Man Right out of My Head). In most modern day musicals like Evita and Les Mis. the whole story is told in the song. If you can't understand many of the words, you can't follow the plot. Lea makes following the story easy.

You are one of the best vocal coach here in UA-cam. You understood things perfectly. I would like to recommend reacting to Lea Salonga singing "Written in Stone", it's like a deleted song from the Disney movie "Reflection". She performed it live in her "Dream Again" USA & UK concert tour last year. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/ElrY_tD4cBQ/v-deo.html&si=EnSIkaIECMiOmarE
Hope you'll enjoy your time watching.❤

"Her diction is so good." That's musical theater. Unlike rock, where people can read the liner notes, or opera, where the audience is generally familiar with the libretto, in musical theater it's important that the audience understand the words upon first hearing. So, excellent diction is paramount.
I'd like to suggest you listen to the late, great Marin Mazzie singing Sondheim's moving ballad "Losing My Mind." This clip is from the Sondheim 80th Birthday concert. The other great ladies sitting in this circle, each of whom has a solo in the section of the show, are Patti LuPone, Audra McDonald, Donna Murphy, Bernadette Peters, and the late Elaine Strich.
