- I've known Amit-ji before he became a superstar.
We were part of the same group of friends and I recall many evenings spent collectively on my terrace playing word games and mental games. He was brilliant, often a winner - and always fun!
And then success happened to him. No more games evenings. He had transcended into a stratosphere that left little time for normal life.
Over the years I observed the emergence of another personality called Amitabh Bachchan. After his political stint, he changed even more; there was an air of seriousness about him. It was a far cry from the Amit we knew. He had become circumscribed. Even though I understood why, it seemed a pity.
Where had the old Amit gone? I wanted very much to meet and find out in our first rendezvous...

?????? i just cannot stop binging on these- madam simi garewal, what have you done to me? i love these interviews, yes, absolutely loveee them! believe it or not, you can actually see when someone's lying or when someone is legitimately passionate about a certain thing when talking to the host. simi maam does the absolute best all while making it seem so effortless. oh did i mention how aesthetically pleasing is it to watch these? no unnecessary sha-bang or poppy music, just pure class & elegance. i can go on and on about this. i would want to start a petition to bring back Rendezvous with Miss Garewal!!

This show was way ahead of it’s time. It’s still relevant and it certainly will be relevant in the future decades to come. Can’t praise Simi Ji’s intellect and talent enough, to have created a show like this.

What sadness! He was the one who did wrong to Rekha. He's the culprit not the victim! He should have had the courage to re marry.
He was in huge debt at that time, his production company ABCL collapse badly, he was planning to sell his bungalow to payoff his debts.

In 1998, Amitji said what am I doing here at the age of 56, and look at him at the age of 75 he is still here.we love to watch him always because he is legend
Now 54+ actors like Akshay Kumar, the 3 big Khans (all 56) still act as heroes. That time, Amitabh Bachchan was labelled "old", but even 56 nowadays is still a hero's age.
And now 80 and still not slowing down. A true legend. He will act until his last day.

I like rendezvous with simi Grewal much more than koffee with Karan. It's real and actually asking about the person themselves, the events they have been through instead of gossiping and rating other people
One word: dignity.
Whatever his cultural, religious, personal , social life is........he has strength and fierceness and calm of an ocean. While knowing himself almost completely, he moves ahead what he believes in.
According to amitabh's age in the show, the show was hosted in 1999. At that time Amitabh was going through bad time in his filming carrer. This is the reason he is saying, I am trying to match Ajay Devgns and Govindas. But in 2000 his carrer took a major turn when he got KBC and then he did Mohabbatein. Then he never looked back.

Agree completely! moreover he is so lucky to have Jaya besides him who gave up her career for him & family, stood by him like a solid fort protecting him during his thick & thin days. The new generation do get irritated by her nature being rude but one should alway try to understand that she had gone through hell back in those days where every other actresses & politicians trying to exploit him or being opportunistic for fame, I bet being a wife of superstar she definitely had to balance herself mentally and same time appear normal. The amazing part is she never ever gave up and today if AB is still standing tall until this day is due to Jaya. I hope AB & his entire family including her grandchildren realises the fact.

I re-watch your interviews from time to time cause this is a mastery of interview. All these tricky questions even very direct questioning but with class. People want the "scoop" in recent language actually get that part too but one needs to understand how to even read body language and comprehend the things told here and things not told here. A classic in Indian television for sure

Fair enough she was lovely and all ... but here she never let it go with coming back at him till he gives in . She is brilliant she brought the best in him .
The important question is: Rekha is calling him didivai's husband. They used to live in the same building as Rekha ji said. So they were acquaintances even if not friends. On top of that, they have acted in so many films together, they were colleagues. So if everything is very normal and there is no tension, why don't they ever interact socially? Why do both of them keep saying that they don't talk to each other? Is this normal? AB goes along quite well with Hema Malini even now. So why is Rekha segregated?

I think he never loved Rekha.. And I also feel he wasnt man enough. Why do I say that? Because men know when a woman is vulnerable. Rekha always wanted to be loved and he knew that.. He was just going with the flow. And then ofcourse his father must have had different plans for him. But then why mess around with someone when you cant make that decision of being with them. Was it fair to Rekha? And obviously he is not happy with his wife. Jaya is also miserable all the time. Seriously the only one that was truly hurt (Rekha) always has a happy face. No matter how hurt she is internally . This message is for all the men if you have no intention of marrying dont lead the other person on..(and if there is a caste problem or any other it should be looked upon before starting a realtionship) He had a chance to clear things, but he chose to stay clear and lie. He definitely has something with Rekha..

Actually I think he was already married to jaya when he met rekha, he married jaya in 1973 and then rekha and amitabh first met during their first movie together in Do Anjaane 1976. I think Do Anjaane was their first film together. They definitely had something together. They both probably did develop feelings for each other but it wasn't going to blossom into anything more since amitabh was already married to jaya. In this situation both women jaya and rekha got hurt for sure :(

He was already married to Jaya and when he met Rekha he was already father of 2 children. I don't know why ppl spread misinformation without any knowledge. He met Rekha for the time in 1976 and their affair started in same year.
She was just one of his many flings, but for her, he was THE ONE. And he still is. And that's just about it. I was watching Salim Khan interview where he was asked about his association with AB and why it faded with time, and he said that it's his nature not to let anyone come too close to him. I think he's a very ambitious man, and doesn't let anything affect his focus.

The poem written by Amitabh speaks all about his life in a nutshell. Media, just for the sake of greed can tarnish the identity of the Gods they create. On one hand the masses loved him on the other instant same people wanted to buy cheap stories sold on Page3 from the stands and mock the very idol they worshipped.
To judge without reason is a crime, the repercussions of gossip eventually destroys many happy families. Like any other person out there struggling to keep a healthy image ,Amitabh had to answer back. A very sad reality to see a great human being endure the mockery of his masses he thought loved him. Deep inside he knew they only loved the onscreen Anthony and not Amitabh Bacchan.
He came, he saw, he conquered, he struggled, he survived. Respect for him , you will always be embedded in still a many admirers hearts, who know who Amitabh Bacchan is.
He looks and sounds traumatised in this interview. Eyes full of sadness. One of the very view articulate actors.

Yes - it's a different interview to all the hundreds of others others on Amit-ji. Simi-ji has known Amit-ji before he became a star. An old friendship brings with it an insight not given to others.. And btw Amit-ji enjoyed the interview; he even rang his brother Ajitabh in the break and said loudly that it was fantastic. Don't forget he came back for another rendezvous with his family! This must have been an awkward time. In the words of Jethro Tull, too old to rock and roll, and too young to die. Of course, substitute rock and roll for being the angry young man. He looks awful with the shoe polish dyed hair. Post 2000, I think he looks better. It helped that he stopped fighting the aging process. Other actors of his peer group never knew when to stop playing the same roles, but he adapted to his age gracefully

I just wonder if Amitabh Bachchan had truly eloped with Rekha, as there were rumours about it. I think several things would have happened to him - he would've been ostracised by the industry and may have been consigned to oblivion, he may have faced a boycott by the makers and the industry and he definitely would've been hated by his children. I just don't know but something tells me that his injury in Coolie was like a curse. I must admit, his career has been even better after 1997 and at 80, even now. Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan and his family are such a wonderful and happy family.

Amitabh Bachchan is still deeply in love with Rekha. He does not want to admit it because it will obviously hurt Jaya and his children with Jaya. Unfortunately, Amitabh is stuck with Jaya. It clearly shows that Amitabh is secretly suffering and unhappy but he puts on a brave face in public. How sad ! Wish he met Rekha before he met Jaya. Rekha and Amitabh would have been such a beautiful couple !
