Let me start with a couple of interesting facts: Ms Melina Juergens was only their employee(video editor/photographer for Ninja Theory) who was called upon to play Senua as a "stand-in" while the game was in early development with the motion capture techniques. She was encouraged by the studio's co-founder to channel all her emotions. Her acting and emotions being shown were SO good that they decided to make HER their final choice in portraying Senua. She doesn't have any acting experience prior to filming but what you're about to witness and what she did in this game speaks everything. She even won Best Performer at the BAFTA Games Award as a first time actress! Just...🤯!
As for the game, it was developed by only 20 people/developers. Once again...🤯! And it was based on someone with mental health or in this case, Senua with Psychosis. Hence the different voices whispering different things. And also her loss of contact with reality. As we can see her struggles with what's real and what's not.

Melina also won the best performance award at the Game Awards 2018. And she received it from the master of performance capture himself, Mr Andy Serkis. There's a vidéo on YT.
It really makes you wonder. Just about any pool of talent is limited to the people who wanted to pursue that talent. Imagine how much talent lies dormant and undiscovered out there.

It's 2024 and I still get looks from people my age (41) that think I'm playing with childrens toys. I can't convince them that the games I play are like interactive movies. They just don't get it. It's a cultural stigma at this point.
The "Hellblade Feature" (making of) is really interesting. Definitely worth watching.
This game is so beautiful and it felt so important. I highly recommend watching the 'making off' because it really shows how much the devs loved this game and really tried to shed some light on people with those mental health struggles. There were times while playing this that I had to take breaks from the headphones to kind of recover but that made me think of people experiencing psychosis in real life who don't have that luxury. Heavy stuff, told in a stunningly beautiful way. Truly a piece of art. I look forward to the next game!

I love this game, love the graphics, the acting, the story, and how sound is used.
I’m so happy you decided to play this! Truly one of the most unique game experiences, I’ve ever had! And it is SO important, because of the collaboration they did with both mental health professionals AND people who actually live with psychosis, to not only make the experience as realistic as possible, but to put a focus on mental health as well! Please watch the documentary on how they made the game, as well… it is *very* interesting!

Another great playthrough from Lady Lite. What a great story, thank you for sharing it. My nephew recommended this to me years ago and it has been on my Steam wishlist for quite awhile. I watched it in pretty much one sitting as well. I thought you were going to tear up at the end when she was lying on the ground talking to her love. Until next time.

As someone with mental health struggles, this came was rough for me to play through... But Its a game I can point to and be like, "This is kinda how it feels sometime"
You have been producing so much great content and now you give us one of more than 6 hours! The content machine has been kicked into overdrive and it's still got a quality setting on Superior! Try as you might, you can't give me too much LWG content! I've watched the first hour (which is very enjoyable) and I will be back later to finish this!
When I originally played this it wasn't with headphones, but I'm watching this while wearing really nice ones and... it adds a whole other dimension, wow.

I love how you can keep going forever on the final battle and don't realise your supposed to die! After I finished the game my partner played it, and I didn't tell her till she had been fighting for about 20 minutes into the final battle 😂

I got chills just by looking at the thumbnail, I love this game, it really is something else. And I am more than just a little bummed that Microsoft decided to buy Ninja Theory, so the sequel won't come to PlayStation, like the first one did. If their plan was to make fans of the first game miss the sequel if they don't have an Xbox, then they did a good job, I guess. I don't want to buy an Xbox (I have a 360, it won't help me much though) just for one game, even if it's a good one. Oh well, I guess I'll have to make do with playthroughs on UA-cam. It's kinda interesting that they tried to trick the player into believing that you have a limited amount of deaths, which you actually don't, before you have to start over from the beginning. It certainly adds to the feeling of panic and urgency, that Senua, and the player, is having.

So to clarify since your playing from Senuas POV you see and hear what she is so since Senua is hallucinating alot in the game alot of it isnt real from the rot on here arm to the way the enemies look. I assume they are real vikings but Senua sees them as hellish.
I'm definitely glad that at least someone who is playing hellblade is parrying from the start oh my God 🥰🥰
This was amazing to watch the whole 6hrs and your wrap up was great too.
The one problem i can see from watching a few playthroughs of this (i didnt have these luckily) is the game sacrifices proper tutorials for immersion. The fact you went through the wholeeeee game without letting the KICK button enter your life was an achievement :P . Combat defo needs polished for the sequel, but at the end of the day i treated this game very much as a walking simulator with some combat mechanics.
To deep dive into the story would take an essay but im just so hype to see where they go with Hellblade 2.

The subtitles ruin a little bit the experience, but damn what a masterpiece this game is I love the atmosphere and the story.

I get optical migraines, scary to start with, now just sit back and watch the 20 mins kaleidoscope light show; although last one I had I did feel sickly.
Won't have the time to finish this video for a good while but wanted to say thanks for uploading it! I'm excited to watch. I only have PS4/PS5 and thought this game looked intriguing and unique, but haven't watched it yet either. It's one of those things I forgot about, but now that you've uploaded this I'll definitely be watching and experiencing it vicariously through you. The game looks beautiful and is unsettling with all the whispers and trippy sections. Looking forward to seeing where the story goes with this plus the sequel.
Actually, maybe it's best I'm not playing it because if I somehow got hours in and died because I sucked and had to start over, I probably would be too frustrated to do it all over, lol. It doesn't look TOO hard so far but I'm still early in the video so that might not be true. You're doing a good job!
Okay, just finished. Firstly, idk why I didn't remember this game originally came out on Playstation, guess the sequel on Xbox confused me, but after watching you play this I wouldn't want to play it myself anyway. The multiple enemies with the lockon issues and the fighting and running in the darkness would probably make me die far too many times and I'd probably have to start the game over. The game is gorgeous, the whispering following you throughout the game is a really cool and unique mechanic, and I love the storytelling and environments, it just doesn't look much fun to actually play imo. I enjoyed watching it so I'm glad you uploaded it, but I don't think it would've been much fun for me. Thanks for playing it! I'm looking forward to where the sequel goes.

Is this the first game you have played with a lock-on mechanic? It's so jarring to see you struggle with that, and yet perfectly parrying everything. Especially when you said in the beginning that you've played bloodborn which is from everything I've heard a much much harder game. It's just such a basic thing that I can't fathom how you struggle with it.... It did look like the camera skipped some beats when focusing on a new enemy some times, and that I haven't noticed before... could have been a bug... You did really good on the puzzles to, struggling a bit after playing the whole game in one go is understandable 😅
Microsoft was extremely smart to purchase this studio years ago. Thanks for this video, can't wait for Hellblade 2!

Great gameplay of a masterpiece. I love this game. Some strugles you had with the game are actually esay to go through... the shield guy is easy if you start your attacks on him with a kick (melee attack) to get the shield out of the way. With the shadow monster you have to make sure you keep yourself near the center of the area to avoid the flashing visions. The voices help a lot with the spawning from behind enemies.
Great game, very deep meaningd behind everything, another game that gave me those same feels although completely different was Gris which was beautiful as well

I think it's more that this is what's Senua believes about her darkness, her condition. But I suppose the message is that her belief is faulty. Even if her "darkness" seems to have consumed all of her, she still has the possibility of recovery and mastery over that darkness.

Xbox isn't doing too well these days. It seems as though Microsoft is looking for any way possible to make Xbox more profitable. Former Xbox-exclusive titles like Pentiment and Hi-Fi RUSH have already made their way over to PS5 (also to Switch in the case of Pentiment), and rumor has it that no Xbox exclusive is off the table for eventual release on other platforms.

I am glad you got to play the game and put it up in one video. Shame though, as you seem rather detached from the story, which is weird cause you get so into the stories of movies when you react to them but didn't seem to do that here. The story and subject matter is so deep in this game, and really hammered home with the on-screen acting and voice over.
In any case, as long as you enjoyed it, I suppose that is what matters at the end of the day. I hope the 2nd game ends up as deep as this one and doesn't lean more into being " just a video game" as we have more than enough of those :)
The combat (like everything else) is in service to the story and immersion. Senua is a human being, not magical, not a super hero and thus 100% appropriate for what they were going for. The lock on is easy to deal with, its a simple flick of the stick to change targets, like every game with a lock on. The lack of an icon for lock on was a good choice, having some gamey highlight to pull your attention to who exactly you are locked onto, would, to some degree pull you out of the immersion, which immersion was the main factor of the game. Its fine not to like it of course, but to suggest it needs to be "fixed" is just incorrect. Its important, massively so, to remember that we are seeing through Senua's eyes and the way she sees the world is a cluttered, fractured mess due to her Psychosis. Believe me I understand your complaints, and they would be reasonable in a normal game. This is anything but a "normal" game and its purposely designed that way. There would be a massive disconnect between what the Dev's were trying to do and having taken the approach you suggest imo.
In any case...
Glad you enjoyed it on some level though, even if you are the first person I have watched/know to play this and not get emotional by the end. This is also fine, not everyone is grabbed by a game in the same way, and I hope you enjoy the 2nd game :)

Just because I had minor grievances does not mean I didn’t love it! This is clearly your favorite game and I appreciate the passion but please don’t think I didn’t love the game because I didn’t have the exact same attachment to it you did.
@@LiteWeightGaming Aa I said on twitter, I am sorry if you took my comments as me thinking you didn't like the game. What I said about "your detachment" from the game being weird, was a surprised, considering your reaction to other things I have seen on your channels.
Far as your complaints on game mechanics. They are valid (and I would even agree with them) though I think they aren't as bad considering its a purposeful design choice to help the player understand/feel what Senua does due to her Psychosis, which is the entire point of the game.
Regardless, as I said, its fine that it didn't grab you like it did me and others. Was just surprising given the personality I have witnessed from you in your other content, nothing I said was meant to be mean and maybe I should have worded it better. Text on a screen lack inflection, and I really should keep that in mind. What you type doesn't really reflect How you are saying it and I apologize for that as well.
If you turn the music right down, the voices in the head is even more distressing.
4:22:45 Having to stay in the light and avoid the darkness is similar to Alan Wake. Its main villain the Dark Presence is basically an eldritch being that turns people into shadow monsters called The Taken that can only be killed by light from things like flashlights and flares.
Melina Juergens was Ninja Theory's video editor while this game was being made. She initially acted as a stand-in for Senua until they could find an actress to portray her, but they liked her performance so much that they gave the role to her instead. She had never worked as an actress before playing Senua, and she continued working as Ninja Theory's video editor while playing Senua.
One sad thing to note about Melina Juergens is that her depictions of pain and suffering seem to have come from a very real place. In an Instagram post a while back, she revealed that she suffers from fibromyalgia. And in a reply to a comment under that post, she said that she also suffers from endometriosis.

The Garm fight near the end of the game isn't even hard.. You just kept walking intentionally into the darkness and then blaming the game for not being able to see...
