- This 3 string Cigar Box Guitar was built from an Arturo Fuente Churchill box. I peeled and sanded then stained and steel wooled. the Neck is a pine stake with a Home Depot Yardstick as the fretboard. The frets were placed according to the harmonics series so this guitar sounds wonderful. It produces rich and beautiful intervals. Two internal reverb springs add an additional musical dimension. i Love the sound and feel of these "Just intonation" Cigar Box Guitars.
that is the best sounding cigar box.Ive heard yet.congrats
Del, this might be my favorite yet. You continue to amaze brother!
Everett Jacobson thanks Everett :-)
I have heard a large number of CBG's, some sounding good and some not,but yours are #1. if I can make one that sounds half as good as yours I'll be happy.I have learned a lot from you.Thank you so much.
Great playing .....love the sound of this 👍
Love the sound of this. Would love 2 see detailed neck build for this scale. Awesome work
The tunes you play are consistently simple and beautiful, every one. Really quite lovely. I'm now going to have to build yet another guitar so I can tune it EBE and keep the action low. My wife will be delighted!
Man this is an amazing sound!!!!
Wow breathtaking
Nice tune. 😷👍
That thing is special bro!!!!
Loved that song you starting playing at 3:23.....that is exactly how I wish I could play...GREAT STUFF!! Even if I don't understand all that music lingo you been talking about.
Beautiful sound mate........
Del I love this just intonation you’re awesome I have to make one not to sure what frets to leave out ,what a great sound you’re cbg is❤️❤️❤️😎👍
fantastic playing. just a joy to listen to. hello from Oz
really nice sir sounds great
Nice git-fiddle, by the way. You do some great work.
Nice man!!!!!
Just a beautiful sound, I have been building CBG's for only about a year, and although I have a guitar and keyboard background, never grasped the concept of just intonation. I simply use a 25.5 scale but would love to use a scale from just intonation in my next build. If it's not to much trouble could you send me the fret scale for the Em scale that you demonstrated in a prior video, sounded just fantastic. Thanks so much. John
John Steinmetz once i dial it in im going to print up a template.... im still figuring it out...
Thanks Del, can't wait, these sounds of just intonation are so much richer, especially on a 3 string. Keep up the great work!
I don't understand anything you are saying. I am a maker, not a player. But you sound awesome. I could fall asleep to that jam.
Awesome job Man! Love the sound, I have a question about the frets, could a person use other hard materials besides metal?
You ever put a second piezo under the nut to get the notes behind the frets?
Del aren't you concern that the pine neck will eventually bow? Loving your videos.
doggylv not all pine is created equal. these particular stakes have been in the weather for number of years... they are straight and stiff. almost petrafied. and after i sand them down to 2000 grit they're as smooth as glass and as hard as a rock...
WOW !!
Soulful sounds Del. How high, in millimeters if possible, is your feet action. Aloha nui...
Todd Barrett im not sure... i never measure .. i just eyeball it. i like medium high action .. no buzz but easy to play ...
Thanks Del. Just finishing my first CBG and the action is way too high. I wanted to be able to fret and slide, not just slide. Harmonics came out good,so I'm happy there.
Do u have a video on spring install thanks VonKarl
hey Del, what strings out of A six string pack do you use for Ebe tuning? I don't want to put too much tension on the neck.
Eric Eckmann im using the ADG strings from acoustic mediums ..... tuned down to EBE
Del, This has an amazing sound. I understand the concept of Just Intonation. You are playing cords but I expect one needs to forget their normal way of tuning and playing. Cords on this guitar wouldn't match a normal tune. Did you just play around until you found a cord?
Colin Middleton Colin .
Good questions .. The three string system requires a different approach to chords. Same theory but different shapes. One finger barr chords. I have a video about chords you may find interesting
Del
Colin Middleton :-)
Probably using a wound G string?
I found that if you like just intonation but are stuck using a guitar fretted for equal temperament, you can get the interval ratios pretty close to just intonation by tuning to 430 Hz instead of 440 Hz. It'll never be pure ratios because it's equal temperament, but close enough.
