Honestly, I'm disgusted with the state of college football. I'm at this point where I'm about done with college football period. The NCAA has allowed college football to be destroyed. The portal is trash.
It's trying really hard to copy the worst of the NFL.

It is out of hand (need more regulations especially on player payment no kid should be driving a damn Lambo or have a penthouse) but how can you be ok with coaches leaving to come to bama and hurting their former team and not be ok with players leaving to better themselves? Saban was fine, man wanted Drew Brees and his superiors thought they knew better. So he came here. I have no issue with coaches seeking to better their lives if done properly. Players should be given same curtiosy especially when a coach like Saban is no longer your coach. Like I said, I agree it should be better regualted and I am sure the new coach will do fine, but he will never be Saban and these kids know that. This whole loyalty to a damn million dollar institution like a university is crazy. All they see students and players as are dollar signs, they don't need to be loyal to shit other than teammates.

When Caleb Downs goes to the pros - he will have new coaches, defense, system, and terminolgy. He will never play for the GOAT again. The pro evaluators would like to see how he can learn and adapt to new defensive systems. Maybe leaving without having the opportunity to show his ability to adapt is not such a smart move. 🤔
I was going to post this exact same thing. He won’t be able to pick which coach or which team he is going to play for. It is better to have been exposed to different things. He wants to go to the NFL. He seems to want to follow his buddy TRobb to Georgia. If he stays at Alabama, his position coach would be a guy that coached the secondary at the Dallas Cowboys. That is the NFL.
Best positive about this is that Bama will have some consistency at the coordinator positions for the next few years. Don't have to worry about someone poaching a Saban assistant. This should give Coach DB time to lay down a great foundation moving forward. The assistants and coordinators in place now will develop a new version of Bama football that I'm personally excited to see.

This is going great..now we see why Bama struggled this season, half the defense didn't buy in to the Bama philosophy..so good riddance..I'd rather have a 100% 3star than a half ass playing 5star ..if they actually cared about the team and their Teammates they wouldn't have left so soon, they'd have given this staff a chance..so they were NEVER going to give 100%..find players who will give it all and goodbye to the dead weight.. we need to hit the portal also

Downs is not leaving because of learning new calls or terminology... His dad runs a recruiting service and obviously we all know he olayed. the word is he does not like the Defensive hires.. I wish we would have got Schuman. But I have faith and after we win another championship me and others will forget who left..! And just maybe this will really give these players that stayed some extra want to

its sad seeing the panic and handwringing,and even tears over a few players, o.m.g..that's never ha[ppened before at bama,,cept that it has every year, how about focusing on the players that are staying,or maybe the ones that might be coming into bama from the portal..or some that might be moving up from that no one signing class last year who actually wants to stay and play,or maybe some of the ones from this years signing class that may make an impact.. for every good player that leaves there are plenty of good or better player waiting for the chance to take their place.

Commitment means nothing in college football. I have been done with the sport for about 2 years. This is no longer an amateur sport and I see no reason to watch a mini-camp NFL. High school football is still somewhat competitive, but it as well is going in the wrong direction. Player's making more money than their position coach is absurd.
This is what I’ve been saying. It’s one thing to let a player sell autographs for money or something. But they are essentially employees now, whether they’re technically paid to play or not. Minor league football sucks, and that’s what we’re headed toward. I hate to see it happen because I’ve never been a big NFL fan at all and always preferred college ball because it didn’t feel so much like strictly a business.

Here is one better.....think about an 18,19,20-year-old getting paid E1, E2, or even Master Chief pay. They literally put their "LIFE" on the line and don't get paid anything close to what these young men are making playing a game. Even better, they get a scholarship, and apparently, some aren't even using the educational side. This is obvious due to listening to the after game interviews. What a waste of $$$$.

We just lost 2 5 stars in state that were already committed because they haven't heard from anybody. He has offered 3 or 4 Westcoast kids that have never even seen Alabama! I think Deboer is a great coach but he has to rule the state!

Luke and Jimmy, although I appreciate the positivity I think you are missing something. A royal screwup in the transition from Saban has happened here. There is absolutely no way that T-Rob should have been able to walk away to Georgia taking the best player in the country and on the team with him. It is not Debour's fault but that is unacceptable and if this was planned and transitioned properly then this mass exodus would never have happened. Trey Amos our #1 corner is in the transfer portal too now, and don't forget that Earl Little Jr who would have taken his place is in FSU now because he thought he wouldn't get any playing time. What a cluster.

Much respect for KD’s winning record and character, but the biggest concern with the hire was and is recruiting. The staggering loss of talent out of T town over the last several days is not reassuring. You can’t help but believe a proven SEC coach and recruiter like Kiffin would have fared much better. And saying players are only leaving for $ is not completely true. Bama has no $? I wish KD and the program nothing but the best. We will see, but extremely rough start.

Prior to Saban I was talking to an assistant coach with the Razorbacks. It was the DuBose era. I was a miserable Bama fan at the time. He said anyone can coach you just need the horses. Jimbo asked me at Dad's funeral what I thought of Saban. I told him we need the horses, Saban needs to recruit. He said, oh he's recruiting. NIL has taken hold to get the horses now and we've lost the Saban discount. You didn't need as much money if you're playing for a GOAT. I'm disheartened at this change. Did Saban run from coaching as these players are running for fame and money. I'm somewhat suspect of this. Maybe in this vacuum there can be a rebirth of pride but in reality you still need the horses. Arkansas has all kinds of pride but no horses. I can see Texas, Georgia or Ohio State with prima Donna's playing just hard enough to not get hurt keeping an eye on their respective businesses to get the big check. Then it comes back to coaching. A 3.5 star giving all against a 5 star could be refreshing in this Brave New World.

I love Jalen but he isn’t a QB1 level quarterback for an Alabama level organization. He’d be a solid starter for a Wisconsin. Our receivers were the most inconsistent we’ve had in years. Nobody wants a rebuild but welcome to the portal era ya’ll. It ain’t going back to how it was any time soon. So ya’ll best get used to the rotating door. We have a solid HC and he’s bringing in a solid team under him. The rest will work itself out. ROLL TIDE 🤙🏼

What bothers me, is everything is pointing to this continuing with the portal and NIL. Its just hard to be loyal to a team when the bulk of the players arent loyal to the team.
Think Im gonna just watch basketball and not think much about football til spring. Then we will know who actually will be on the team.
And we will be fine. First year or two might dip a little but we will still be playoff contenders every year. Thank God next year starts 12 teams.

Gator fan here. This has been fascinating to watch but to be honest they didn’t lose some crazy amount. It’s been 30 about guys and half left before Saban retired. I think the way to fix things is to have you can’t transfer unless it’s a family matter or something of that nature until after your sophomore year and caps on what these kids can make so all top tier school are capped at a certain number. But you guys are fine, maybe don’t have a few great players but deboer is an insane coach that I hoped Florida was gonna get lol
It is what it is. We won’t be good for a couple years and will take a lot of losses to teams like Tennessee, LSU, Texas, Oklahoma. We’ll have to get used to watching the playoffs from home while Georgia, Texas, OSU win championships. Years 3 and 4 will tell us whether DeBoer can get it back on track.

The fact that the safety lid Alabama tackles is absolutely embarrassing. That should’ve been a huge warning sign that something was wrong.
And why would Downs leave after leading the team in tackles?? That is crazy to me!
Unless he realizes that the defense is going to be great next year and his tackles will decrease. 🤔

@@RepublicConstitutionthe 3-4-4 is Saban’s base defense. Over the last several years, we have rarely been in our base defense. The most used defense has been the nickel which is the 4-2-5. The only change really is the terminology.

I’m hearing that he’s linking up with Ohio State so all this logic is for not. And all it took him was an off-season to pick up our defense. The kids exceptionally smart he’s not gonna have to pick up anything wherever he goes it’s just gonna open the playbook for him more the more he learns so I don’t think you should limit yourself to a certain style.
When Saban left LSU,even Les Miles knew he had a loaded team . So he didn't change anything and won two Nattys. If it ain't broke dont try to fix it. I know Deboer wants to put his people in place but dont change everything at one time .

Yeah Downs is probably the best freshman to play for Saban. It’s a 3 way tie between him minkah Fitzpatrick and Cam Robinson. The Left tackle.
TUA was pretty darn great as a freshman and probably should have started by mid season BUT Saban was loyal to Hurts.
I would hear that in practice, Tua was more consistent that whole season.
