- Let’s get spooky with the Black Widow Colored Pencils. I will be testing all 3 Editions and coloring with them tonight as I share my first impressions of these popular pencils. I will also answer your questions about coloring with colored pencils as I do some coloring on my latest Autumn coloring page.

I love those tins and I think it sets them apart from other pencils!
Sorry Jennifer, I'm solidly on the side on Steve on the Black Widow product tins. When these first came on the market they immediately grabbed attention, and then when folks tried them and they turned out to be wonderful pencils.. well, it was marketing kismet, and that's what it's all about. I was gifted a set of the Black Widows, and immediately put both the Scorpions and Cobra's on my wish list.. LOL! Thanks for a fun show!
Straw is left over from the wheat harvest and hay is typically alfalfa or a grass seed. The former is for bedding while the latter is feed.
I like the packaging and the pencils. The branding is different but then again so are the interesting descriptive color names. The world has many creatures I would not want to encounter yet can appreciate them from afar.
I passed over them when I saw small sets. I want colors. Then I realized each set has different colors. Now they have 180 colors. Saw some on sale and snapped them up. I love the tins and they snap closed. These pencils are wonderful. No regrets. Will be getting the rest. Images on tins are fabulous.
An Australian pencil, how nice to see, put together by a man in the medical industry. He considered they would help people relax. They are a beautiful pencil to look at being the only all black pencil around. The name of Blackwood is associated with the person who put them together. I think Black Widow is a play on that name. At the bestcoloredpencil website they rate 4.5 out of 5.0. They also rate very high on presentation, pencil, solid tin, name.
I’m getting the entire set of 96 this week and I love the design and branding of these. It’s actually part of the reason I’m getting them.
I love the names and saw reviews that were great. I'm sure they will come our w water color !!-✌
I love the artwork on the pencils! I live where there are lots of spiders, scorpions and snakes. I hate the real things but I can still appreciate the art. I probably am a little weird but I also love to color snakes and spiders.
Personally, I LOVE the packaging and the color names and think that it's just packaging (gendering not necessary).
I love the design on the casing
Take the pencils out and put them in a case you like. Simple. I like the tins. I am an oil painter who just started using color pencils again to draw the herbs of the herbal tinctures I take and put them in a journal. I like drawing bees and the cordyceps caterpillar that has a fungus growing out of its head. Cordyceps is a very valuable medicinal fungus used in Chinese medicine and now is being used in cultures all over the world for its value. The little caterpillars are little heroes, thus, I have named my caterpillar in my drawing "Hero".
I found these intriguing. I just ordered this set of 3 plus the Dragon set. Can't wait to get them.
The packaging on these pencil tins are awesome! love them.
Albert allowed his customers to name the pencil colour eg Pigs Ear for a competition as these are popular sayings as well as a clever descriptive, in addition to that the pencils being black in the barrel were Branded accordingly.
These pencils were marketed as a spooky yet quality pencil on purpose and the pencils were used to design the original image and have sold incredibly well.
Nature is incredible as too are the designs so it’s an organic tool to catch the eye..

I personally love the uniqueness of the tins and the pencils. I love, love, love the names of the colors and really love coloring with them.
However, I was born and raised southern Arizona and so used to these kind of images. But, I love your reaction, Jennifer!!!
I purchased all three sets and the customer service is AMAZING. I received my first set of black widows, two pencils were warped and a few were missing names. I contacted the owner who sent me a coupon code for a free replacement. Amazon messed up and sent me the wrong pencils so I told the owner who gave me another coupon code. Amazon wasn't letting me use the coupon code so he sent me a set of the proper replacements. I offered to send the others back but he told me to keep them as a backup or give them away. Albert is amazing to deal with, 10/10 love the company and the pencils!

I hate all kinds of spiders but after seeing a review and looking at them on Amazon and the reviews there, I bought all 3 sets and I really like these pencils. I do like the tins also..
Personally I like the tins & the fact that they are not mainstream.
I love the design/marketing of these pencils and I have a HUGE fear of spiders and scorpions and snakes in person but the pictures do not bother me at all. In fact, I almost bought them just because I thought they were unique and matched the product name so well. Perhaps now that I know they are decent pencils I will have to add them to my collection. :)
I agree with Steve in that the images are a great marketing tool. I'm not bothered by them. It's possible he was trying to encourage a new demographic.
These pencils were made to help people with mental illnesses,, they made differently to stand out . I think they brilliant!
You're both right. If I found a live Black Widow spider in my house, you'd still hear my screams echoing around the planet (like the eruption of Krackatoa) around the planet. However, the packaging is so different and unusual, that I bought the set. And , of course, I had to buy the two skin color and the Monarch set. So good marketing, Albert!
I absolutely LOVE the tin!!! It is one of the reasons I want these. I looked at them because of the artwork. THEN I asked if people like how these pencils work. NO I wouldn't buy them if they sucked as a pencil, but if they are comparable to other pencils even if they are a scootch more, I would still buy them just to get the tin. If they were garbage pencils, no I wouldn't buy them.
I personally like spiders either but.....I really like these pencils and don’t mind the critters.
Hi Jen and Steve. Red Back spiders don't phase me at all. I live in Australia. I have all three sets of the pencils and I actually love the packaging. The pencils are quite soft as well
I got my Coloring Bliss coloring book today! I am very pleased and I love it. Thanks. I have all 3 sets of the Black Widow pencils, I love the all black color.
I like the packaging, but I like reptiles and bugs so I'm in that group.
I am a female and I love the way the tins look. But then again I live reptiles and things of that nature!
I love that they used those critters to market the different series of colored pencils. Very original and I like it. :) - However if I ever come across any of those critters in real like, I would have no problem killing them asap lol.
Yep...I totally love the theme of the tins (and the names). Of course, not sure where Monarch of the Glen fits in (the most recent set you did a review on). I hear he is coming out with a new set very soon. As long as its no larger than 36...I've got room in the pencil case that currently holds three three creepy creature, the two skin sets and the monarch.
I have all three sets of Black Widow pencils and I love them! The black widow, the scorpion and the cobra sets are shocking, as to the tin look, the great pigment and how well their creamy cores blend and perform compared to others... and at such a great price U.S. I took them out of their tins and color grouped them in a pencil case. I use them more than my complete set of Prismas.
I love the colored pencils design and the names of the pencils themselves. They are just a unique marketing edge that was extremely smart! It has us still talking about it.
Yep, regular common copy papercis what I have had to use.
Oh I hope you try more toothy textured paper someday! It was an amazing experience for me.

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼I colored a strip of paper for each crayon and taipe them on the base of each crayon, that helps me a lot to choose the color I want when coloring.
This branding is so cool!
Ravens are 1/3 larger than crows, have a different shaped tail, and a much larger beak. They also make different sounds. Crows caw, and ravens make many varied sounds. They are both very intelligent birds. Animals eat hay, but their bedding is straw.
The marketing strategy is brilliant. People end up buying all of the collectible tins regardless of the performance of the quality of the pencils. The warranty is a plus. This is why I bought Castle and at their store online on sale, better than Amazon even with my $20 rewards available. I have not tried these yet But I am anxious to. I am especially interested in the Scorpion as I am a Scorpio, whooooo whooooo.

I agree with Steve!! I've always been a tomboy so things like this does not bother me..now roaches we have an issue. Albert was thinking outside the box and that is what caught my eye...they are beautiful pencils
I agree with you, my star sign is scorpion but i really can't get used to the creatures on the tins especially the snake. I guess to each their own coz i will definitely throw those tins away with a heavy heart.

Black Widow customer service is great. I received all the sets and with one set there were a couple with broken leads and they immediately sent me replacements. I absolutely love these pencils. They also said that next month they are coming out with a new 48 set which are all new colors. Highly recommend these pencils.

I agree completely with you, HATE snakes and the rest. I have these but I took them out of the tins and put the tins in a bag on a shelf...in case. i need to return. So far I like them but just got them a few hours ago.
I'm late to the game, but I absolutely love the tins, and it's what compelled to purchase them! Here's to hoping that another set will be released!
I would keep the pencils and throw away the tins.
I really loved these pencils, I just didn't want to have to collect all three sets to have a full range of color. I love the way they are styled, but I also wanted a more professional lightfast pencil so I did return them. I really enjoyed working with them though, they are pretty intense for a hobby quality pencil.

I know this is an older video but it was fun seeing you use some of my favorite pencils. I got this along with my Prismacolors when I first started coloring and I feel in love with them. I did have one pencil, months later that as I used it and sharpened it, it started to crumbly continuously. I couldn't color with it at all so I contacted the company and they very nicely sent me a brand new pencil at no cost even tho I had the pencils for months. I loved my customer service experiences I've had with MediHealth. And what's even nicer they offer these openstock now
Good to know they are open stock. I’m glad they helped you with that pencil. So frustrating when that happens!
@@ColoringBliss I was so upset too, not mad at them, just upset bc I was right in the middle of coloring a page in my Botanicum book and I knew if I tried to use a different color my unicorn's hair would look weird lol

I bought them specifically for the art work truthfully but I didn't like the full black barrell wood and all some color would have been good they are a good secondary set the Monarchs with some colour are beautiful
Opinions cannot be right or wrong. I mostly agree with Steve about the good marketing and attention grabbing. I also agree with you. Creepy creatures are creepy

The packaging appealed to me. In fact I considered buying a pencil case for them so I could put all the yellow together etc. But I didn't because the tins are so cool.
I don't think they are creepy at all. I think spiders and other things people are scared of are very interesting creatures. Spiders are very beneficial, and I think beautiful. I also like snakes. My children and I participated in classes at a nature center when they were small where they got to touch a snake to teach them early on not to have irrational fears of them. Without snakes the world would be overrun with vermin. As far as the packaging for colored pencils, I think it's a unique idea. I agree with Steve. I guess I can see where some people might look at the package and think it's scary or odd, but I think most of us would still buy them if they are good pencils, and you can always throw the case away and use your own.
I have just ordered the 3 sets from amazon it did t worry me that they had bugs on the tin read the reviews and they had fab reviews I am new to coloring I have faber castel, prisma coloring pencels,and derwent intense and I am running my pensels down so fast think my pencel sharpener is wearing them down to fast any way love your tutorials xx
I love the the black pencils with the Black Widow branding---I am unsure or the pencils in the use that will sell me on them. I love the pictures.
How are these on your hands as far as applying pressure?
Would you check out light fastness of black widow and pigment saturation
I was missing one colour (and had a duplicate of another) in one of my tins. They sent me another complete tin free of charge. Wonderful customer service.

I think you both have valid points. Personally, I heard good reviews and waited for all 3 sets to come out because I wanted all of the colors (FSS). I had also learned that each set had different colors and they were put out at different times to allow folks who otherwise could not afford a 72 set of these to be able to purchase only 24 at a time, slowly building their respective collections. Although the tin designs did not bother me (and I'm female), I did buy a case so that I could rearrange them and have them all together as a full set. I have no issue with bugs but I did put the tins away along with my other empty pencil tins I have whose contents have been put into cases. I think the marketing is clever, but I also would never judge someone for getting creeped out by the packaging in general. First impressions are important when one wants to sell a product, and I have overlooked many items simply because I wasn't struck in a positive manner by the initial presentation. I absolutely love reptiles!! I like bugs and scared of spiders lol. But like your husband said it's great because they stand out from all the other products that I have seen at least. I would definitely check them out because they are so different. For example of Beauty of Horror by Alan Robert is so different from the typical coloring books and to me stands out and makes me want to work with this coloring book even though I cant watch horror movies lol.
I love the look of all the black widow pencils and the packaging. I am a goth gal since 14 yr old n I'm now 50. My fave colours are royal purple and black. Are the black edition pencils the same as these?

I am considering replacing my GuanGhui pencils, but they are a harder pencil, like polychromos. I would like a softer pencil for my second set. Prismacolors are my first set. Yes, shocker. I only keep two sets of colored pencils. :) Please do a full review of these pencils please.

I love the cover it what draw my to the product in the first place. I thank they also have a skin color pack they don't have anything spooky on it. Just a sort of paper color tin.
Steve, Ravens are a lot bigger than crowns. Ravens can actually be quite big!
So, they're basically hard oil pastels encased in pencil matrix. Would that be fair comparison?

Personally I love the images, cobra scorpion and the spider. I get so fed up with all these childish images and colouring books. I am going to purchase the cobra just to try one set before I commit to the others
I have to say I despise bugs!!! But I can either put them in a case or get over it. I bought all 7 sets today as these 3 sets were on sale for 16 and change
Ravens are about 3 Feet tall when fully grown whereas Crows are just around one foot tall! You are probably thinking of a Jackdaw which is more Grey but is also a member of the crow family!
To each his own. Some like cutesy and others like a more goth vibe. Nothing wrong with that. I really like the tins. I also like Mickey Mouse. When you get down to it: It’s the product IN the tin that matters.
I'm on Steve's side I don't like bugs but I do like the look of the packaging, when I look at the art I just think of illustration capabilities not bugs, what creeps me out more is close up images of bugs faces and fangs. I'd love to have all the sets but at that point I would probably go for a large capacity pencil case anyway and store the tins
Black widows are beautiful, not really seeing anything wrong with the design.
I really enjoy your reviews. I love the art on their tins and I definitely do not consider it masculine. All those animals have amazing adaptations.
If you dislike the art but still want to keep them in the tins, you could spray paint them then add your own artwork. You could also use modge podge and add some cute scrapbook paper or even a coloring page.
My daughter stuck some cute miss spider character stickers all over them lol
LOL, I had a double take moment there when I saw Steve's hat, my brother lives in Neskowin. As for the pencils, I have to agree with Jennifer. I'm not too bothered by them myself, a little, but my daughter is HIGHLY arachnaphobic and I didn't get the pencils for a while because I was worried about her reaction. Finally I just got a pencil case for them so I could still have them.

Branded at all. Seems weird lol? Wasn't until I was doing my in order colour chart I noticed. That was annoying as they come all jumbled up and I need them in a gradient order!

I like the branding
I had multiple BW pencils that just shredded. It was weird, the wood literally was shredding to pieces when I sharpened them. Customer service was great, sent me a replacement pack right away :)
