Interestingly I am re-watching in 2023 post the death of Barry Humphries. Dismayed, yet a little consoled by their true to form detractors of Barry Humphries, poking their wormy heads up to speak badly of an Australian icon. He was a brilliant mind and entertainer. Loving seeing and hearing my sista Miriam Margolyes’ input in qanda.
@@alexbaker7871 As am I. I can’t get enough of shows and stories with Barry & Dame Edna of course. We’ve lost an incredible mind and an intellectual men. I feel the same about Paul O’Grady. Rare relents.
As a person who just recently discovered Dame Edna, I say that Barry Humphries has one of the sharpest, wittiest minds that I have ever seen. He is remarkable at playing with the language and making it seem effortless to get a point across in double-entendre' very quickly. His vocabulary is vast and his book knowledge is remarkable. Quite a man.
After 30 years of watching this lady act something just occurred to me. She's a artist genius. She's up there with the best In the world. This is one very smart lady. I've loved her since I saw They're Playing Our Song but familiarity can blind you to the brilliance sometimes.
The best ever Q and A with a wonderful panel. Life was different before COVID-19 and a show like this will never be allowed. What a privilege to watch again, even if it is 4.00am in morning !
I love this Q&A because Barry was his real self nothing fake or put on just being his always humorous self, and I just love Miriam for always being her true self and just saying it how she sees it. My mother taught me to do that and she always said while people are thinking or saying bad things about you at least they are leaving some other bugger alone, but more importantly people know where they stand with you. But unfortunately we are still bad regarding sexual orientation, colour, race and creed.
Wow . What a find in May 2023. RIP Dear Barry. And Miriam is an Australian citizen. She is currently recovering from heart surgery at The Royal Brompton Hospital in London. A great panel.
49:53 - Brilliant was Barry's comment in response to that silly woman's suggestion to have Dicken's literature struck from the syllabus. Very good argument from Barry when he asked "should we also struck Beethoven and Mozart in favour of the Didgeridoo?"
What a bloody funny Q&A. Each member was a gem, and Tony at his witty best. Barry was so Edna + Les + Sandy + Barry all rolled up ... so sarcastic, subtle, snakey. David, the serious little insect he is. Miriam dropping anti-PC bombs on everything. Hewson is a most engaging and honest person. Jackie's got a lifetime of Aussie experience.
i absolutely loathe the phrase UnAustralian, it a pathetic way to argue against someone without providing any subtance, just frighten them into your point of view
I don't think I've seen a more clear-headed (from both sides of the panel) discussion in this format. It beats anything I've seen in Europe and certainly in the USA. Bright, open, intelligent, capable of irony, and very little bombast.
That's the very nature of the show champ. The public ask the questions. If panelists don't have a lot to say about the questions....they don't say much.Barry did take over with hilarity but if you watch the show regularly it's far from bias.
Barry is a tremendously talented individual but he is still what he is as a person. Jacki is lovely with a good heart. However I do not think there is a single individual on the panel or the audience who could speak for any Australian outside a very narrow band. Whether through talent, hard work or just plain luck, they have attained a position where none of them are ever likely to know what it is to struggle. They will never be hungry, homeless, be fearful for their jobs or any of the myriad of problems facing those less fortunate as themselves. This is an ABC production and the ABC like so much of bureaucracy is little more than a sheltered workshop for the inept yet politically correct. It takes many, many generations to build a culture and have someone from a another culture come here and deem themselves fit to lecture on what is Australia and what it should be is hypocritical, insulting and opportunistic. The best description of a politician.
Watching a few minutes, I did not get what the general theme was. I would strongly suggest anyone putting up these videos to shortly describe what is being debated!!!!
Linnyboy - Barry Humphries' mother apparently used to always judge people as 'common' if they weren't displaying enough 'class' for her prejudiced tastes. It is like calling someone 'average' or 'uninteresting'. Dame Edna often used the term in her put-downs of celebrities and others.
I can’t stand Q&A, however, Barry Humphries on Q&A was outstanding. It was very hard to have a leftist point of view with a comedian that can destroy their worldview.
This video makes me pine for the days when Q&A was must-watch on a Monday night, and ‘our’ ABC wasn’t in the grips of a generation of woke ideologues. A mere 11 years ago. Boggles the mind. Come back to us Tony Jones! Vale Barry, Edna, Les, Sandy et al.
If you have seen other episodes of Q&A you would see that your comment about left bias is wrong. John Hewson was unfortunately outshone by the other theatrical and journalistic panelists, but I thought when he did comment his comments were good or in agreement with the other panelists. You must have been watching a different version to the one I watched and enjoyed.
Pointing to one or two episodes that are sort of not quite fully left does not make the show not left. It is the most left show on the ABC, with the exception of the news, media watch, and just about everything else they have.
Why am I not surprised that no one mentioned the wrongness of having 30% of our kids living below the poverty line while another Australian has so much money she's done nothing to deserve and carries on selling what I call the birthright of all Australians? How did it come about that such wealth in the ground can be grabbed by obnoxious greedy individuals like Reinhart and Palmer? Where was the government when this happened?
R.I.P. Barry Humpfries, Les Patterson and Dame Edna. You brought laughter, colour and fun into our lives. You will be greatly missed. Thank you.
I'm re-watching this programme in 2022 because Barry and Miriam are too delightful to resist.

Barry/Edna is such a polymath and appreciator of the English language in all aspects..enviable.Totally totally ' listenable'- never get bored by him
I love Miriam and Barry..the opportunity to see these two in conversation is a treasure
I could sit and listen to BH all day. He was a clever, astute and very very funny man
You may as well just have Barry and Miriam answering questions... this is the best. Let's bring them back.
I feel such a sense of sadness and gratitude whenever I see Barry Humphreys now...we were all lucky to have him in the public eye
That “I just thought you were badly lit” line by Barry was comedy gold. Perfect timing.
You must watch this. Barry is as always Brilliant.
whatever programme barry humphries is on either as himself, les or edna he commands the show, quick, clever, observational and damn right bloody funny
Great show. I can watch this over and over.
A time when Q and A was interesting and balanced to watch
lol
lol
Yeah it’s well and truly done its dash
One of the best. In fact. THE best Q & A ever.
Loved every minute of this discussion. Makes me wish I'd moved to aussie after all!
This is the funniest Qanda ever! Though I've watched it several times I wanted to thank you for sharing.
Not gonna lie, I almost wet myself laughing at the "Gina's hole" comment from Barry!
I absolutely LOVE and adore Barry Humphries and Miriam Margolyes - they are wonderfully entertaining. It makes my day listening to them. LOL =D
Barry can say anything and everyone cracks up
Vale Barry. You were loved
Thank you Barry
watching in 2023 .sadly Barry just passed away .what a delightful show

Bullshit

Mr Barry Humphries is spot on!
49:53 - Brilliant was Barry's comment in response to that silly woman's suggestion to have Dicken's literature struck from the syllabus. Very good argument from Barry when he asked "should we also struck Beethoven and Mozart in favour of the Didgeridoo?"
Humphreys: "it's power , and I don't like people who are interested in power"
Everyone there:
.
Best hour of tv I've seen in a while.
RIP Barry Humphries. A very liberal and engaging q @ a.
I love it when Miriam says, "I know what it's like to be fat and ugly, and having lots of money helps, I'm sure. LOL =D

Love you Barry.
This hasn't aged too well. How times have changed!
Back in 2012, a lefty like Marr had no problem referring to a woman as a tart; no way that would happen now.
RIP Barry you will always be the funniest person in the room
Rest easy Barry.
Barry Humphries, despite Sir Les and Edna was a gentle genius.
33:05 someone in the audience really like what she had to say
Best television of 2012, right here.
Is Barry's comment about the audience member being badly lit the funniest thing ever said on a talk show ever?
I have used this line since watching this live - best line ever!
"If you come along to my already sold out show..."
Awesome.
My favourite line, her whole goes on forever
It's the best Q&A ever.
An absolute classic Q&A…and Barry Humphries, what a genius 🤣
So Barry and his guest !!! :) Just wonderful.....
Hands down my favorite Q and A.
Please put more of these up...brilliant...thank you.
The most entertaining episode - brilliant!
Wish we could have a panel show like this in America, where the moderator just moderates and let the panelists take center stage.
Great episode. Q&A at it's best.
"it`s like Giina`s hole"
Only in Australia.
Vale Barry 🌹
Never heard Miriam Margolyes speak without her saying the words "jewish lesbian" .
"Clive Palmer is the re-incarnation of Les Patterson...." so true, and I'm sure Clive would agree.
"I love Tanya Plibersek and Penny Wong"...says it all really!
Jacki Weaver is spot on here, and I quote " The best haters are the worst spellers, with no grasp of grammar."
“ And the best at hate are those that preach love…”
I think Bukowski’s observations were more profound
Barry always supremely elegant almost a dandy We love yer mare.
Sir Les Patterson was a a legend, politically incorrect and therefore funny.
i absolutely loathe the phrase UnAustralian, it a pathetic way to argue against someone without providing any subtance, just frighten them into your point of view
This version of BBCQT seems much less confrontational. Less whipping the audience up to jeer.
what a crackingley great Q&A
The wonderful thing about Australia is that it never changes at all… haha. Wonderful, sometimes disappointing, but true.
Europe is EVERYTHING for culture !!!!- Mattia Pascal
Sublime. Just what a shivering expat in London needs on a cold day.
I miss Barry already get rest my hero.
People listen to every word Barry says
52:16 An attractive looking woman with a distinct pixie look or is it a Peter Pan look?
RIP Barry.
Best Q &A ever

WHAT A GREAT GROUP!!! XOXOXOXO

Once you have a social contract, freedom for anyone to enter a country must be constrained.
It’s no BBC Question Time
Loved watching 😂❤
Gina'sa hole ..Classic Sir Les ?
You bet we will control who comes into this country.
Brilliant
33:05 - I'll have what they're having! (Turn volume up) - 33:05
Watching a few minutes, I did not get what the general theme was. I would strongly suggest anyone putting up these videos to shortly describe what is being debated!!!!
The applause at the beginning of this video sounds like they are frying eggs. I swear !!!
Missing BH infinitely RIP great funny man 🙏no one comes close to you for wit & intelligence 💜
everybody already gives a lot back from what we get..TAXES!
This was back before Ita Buttroast ran the ABC into the ground
Can someone explain the "common" joke that Barry Humphries said? Thank you
Linnyboy - Barry Humphries' mother apparently used to always judge people as 'common' if they weren't displaying enough 'class' for her prejudiced tastes. It is like calling someone 'average' or 'uninteresting'. Dame Edna often used the term in her put-downs of celebrities and others.

Define "woke", to the best of your ability.
The richest woman in the world is HM QEII
Wow. Just wow.
Sir Les Patterson

was tony jones trying to be like kevin rudd. his hair , specs...
A good presenter. Easy going.
At 33:00 someone was moaning so that even the panel especially hewson even noticed but pushed ahead. It was disconcerting.
I heard it too, it was so off-putting. Sounded like someone watching a porn movie!

Yes because it works so well when government controls the means of production doesn’t it?
How?
