The 2 flat beams are connected just with a screw, locking nut, and some washers. The closer beam is powered with an orange Savox servo that you can see at 1:48 when the lift is raised. We switched to ProModeler servos halfway through the season to get more range and reliability.
We can usually use the existing holes on the slides and drill a few more if we need to. You can see more detail in our Reveal Video ua-cam.com/video/zNNMIjzjaMc/v-deo.html. If there's enough interest, we can make an update to our Lifts and Linear Systems video.
We have our own code for tracking position and also to control robot driving based on waypoints. It took a year to get this right, but we learned a lot and now we have very fine control over robot navigation in autonomous.
